Fantastic, NM, I had heard these songs 20 yrs back. In fact forgotten about them.

Thank you so much.

I think it was again Kirti who had sung ' kaise jaadu kiya Raadhike'?

Would you have that too?

Have also been looking for Shobha Gurtu and Manik Verma songs - particularly 'ramachi paaoole' by Manik Verma.

Any chance?

To adapt a phrase from Ranjit Deshmukh: "dhanyavaad haa shabda apuraa paDato"! I couldn't find a recording of these songs for ages. Thanks for ending my search!

Further down in the thread is a reference to Marathi songs by Shobha Gurtu - I do have some, but they are on vinyl. If you are okay with the quality of stuff transferred from vinyl to mp3, will convert and upload them.

Warm regards,
Abhay

Hi NM,
Most welcome !!! I have details only for the second song :
Maajhiya priyala
Lyrics : Umakant Kanekar
Music : Shreekant Thakare

Since Abhay has the first one on LP, he may be able to help us with the first one.

By the way NM, any plans to revive the "Ras" series ? The two threads so far(Shrungaar & Shaant) , were quite interesting..... Looking forward to the other rasas.

yes, haasya, karuN and viir ras are planned. when I get some time to type some of my favorite "jhenDuuchii fule" poems, haasya ras will be started.

Some marathi songs have more than 50 downloads. Who are all these people and why are they not taking part in the discussions. I understand that not everyone has songs to share. but everyone should have ideas to share angry2.gif

Sorry guys for not participating earlier. Lovely uploads!

Oh Oh Mandrake....The next time I'll make sure that I don't step on your toes !!!! blink.gif
By the way guys, while we are at "Pikalya paanaacha", thought I'd get your inputs on this song. A few days ago, I had planned to upload this on the "Shrungaar Ras" thread. But honestly, I'm not very clear about the subject of this song. Apparently, Shobha Gurtu lends her voice to an imaginary character, a middle-aged woman who has crossed the prime of her youth. But this woman is trying to prove why she is attractive even at this age. So much for the first few lines. Can someone help with the rest of the song ? I can put up the lyrics, if that helps.

Pls put up the lyrics (the tough part).
I'll try the translation/meaning (the easy part) wink2.gif

Here's the song in itrans

tumachii maajhii hausa ishkaachii haLu haLu puravaa .....

and in devanaagarii

the palace is old but the chandeliers are new

it's midnight, now light scented lamps

My body plays with colour, the hair is dyed deep brown (?)

The leaf is yellow (old), but the stem is green (young)

your nails might hurt, be gentle, saffron lime and (this beats me)

the betel leaf will bring colour after long

to enjoy the redness of the lips, turn the face like this

I bend slightly, the 'pallu' slips, I take it again

I shoot with proper aim

My passion of love, please satisfy gently

This one belongs to the lavaNii genre. Though lavaNii is essentially shrungaar ras, most laavaNii songs are heavy on double entrande and relatively coarse/physical presentation of the shrungaar, (the worst kind being "maajhyaa vhiriilaa engine basavaa" priyaajii - please dont ask for translation biggrin.gif). For this reason and the fact that we already have a thread on lavaNiis, I intentionally did not add any laavaNiis in "shrungaar ras" thread. However I do want to add "sundaraa manaamadhe bharalii" by shaahiir ramjoshi to that thread, since that poet is the FIRST shringaarik poet of marathi at a time when poetry for anything less than gods or kings was looked down upon. I do not know if it is ever sung by anybody. If any of you know, please u/l.

Thanks for the translation, just few suggestions if you don't mind-

Various parts of my body are playing with colour and I have put Marva (a very aromatic herb and usually it is used in Gajra with flowers especially Mogra)

your nails might hurt since the Leaf is ripe. Use saffron flavored lime (Chuna) and Kevda(another aromatic flower) flavored Katha (used with chuna while making paan).
