Talat Aziz: India's finest Ghazal singer hails from Hyderabad


Ghazal maestro Talat Aziz who has to his credit 40 music albums spent

the first 22 years of his life in Hyderabad. He is a product of

Hyderabad Public School.

He went to Bombay in 1976 on his college vacation and then onwards

began his long journey into the Ghazal world. It was in Toronto that

the young Talat become a mini-celebrity. And in the midst of his

various tours, he finally got a break with Music India, and his first

album, 'Jagjit presents Talat Aziz', hit the market. 'Kaise sukoon

paoon', a part of his album, is still an all time favourite with

Talat's fans.

He was here recently in the city( the city here refers to hyderabad) to

release his latest album"Khubsoorat". He has joined hands with vetran

lyricist Anand Bakshi for his new album "Khubsoorat". It is for the

first time that veteran lyricist Anand Bakshi, who has been penning

songs from Films for the last few decades, has agreed to write the

lyrics for a private album. The new album contains eight songs. Sameer

one of the top guitarist in the world has used the electronic

instruments in "Khubsoorat", mostly the synthesizer and the key boards

to compose music for the album in the form of Indian raagas, both

Hinustani and Carnatic.

Among his most popular ghazals are 'Zindagi jab bhi teri bazm mein

laati hai hamein'from Umrao Jaan),'Phir chidi raat baat phoolon ki'

(from Bazaar)and 'Aaina mujse meri pahli si surat maange' (from Daddy)

'Khoobsurat' his latest solo effort, and his second album in the 40 odd

till date where Talat has not composed the music himself.
