I'm starting this thread for the biggest Janaki fan on HF- Hits. I don't have a lot of Janaki's music, so I'm depending on the HF family to keep this thread going. When I think of Janaki, this is the song that comes to my mind first, because it so beautifully portrays her singing skills combined with the sweetness of nectar that her voice is. The song is Nee Leela Padeda Deva composed in Raagam Abheri (Eqv of Bheempalashri in Hindustani music). Hits can fill in the stats.

Bibhaas !!! : bow : : bow : : bow : : bow :

Gr8 song ... One of SJ's first songs I believe.

I'll upload the Tamil version at the Tamil forum soon ..... enjoy :-)

Heres the link : http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...ndpost&p=125983

Any idea which version came out earlier ?

Who's teh cast in Telugu ? Savithri and ? NTR ?

Vivek

Musicindiaonline lists it as 1957 release, while IMDB says 1962.
bibhas
Hithesh and Vivek,
I am glad you both liked the song. This was the song that shot her to fame but I do believe the Tamil song was the original and I believe the year is 1958. Don't know who the cast of Muripinche Muvvalu is.

Here is another Janaki favorite of mine from the Film Padaharella Vayasu- Sirimalle Poova.

"Ye lijiye...."

Details :
Film : Padahaarella Vayasu (1978)
Actors : Kamal Hassan, Sridevi
Lyrics : Veturi Sudhararamamurthy
Music Director : Chakravarthi

bibhaas.. uve put me in a compulsive upload mode .... so here goes...
(though nice to know I share my taste with Raag - Rang maestro ! )

Tamil version uplaoded here .... http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...ndpost&p=126813

Interestingly, the tamil version says MD is Ilayaraja !

Few points: Is the telugu version a remake or dubbed ? Is Rajnikant in the telugu version ? If so, then quite likely, its dubbed.

And ya, I'm no maestro vaestro, SMNS mein mera flute upload nahiin suna kya, kitna bekaar bajaya hai. Koi maestro aisa bajaata hai kya ?

bibhas
ok, let me try another favorite that's unlikely to be a tamil remake. The movie is Srivariki Premalekha, starring Naresh and Poornima. This movie has quite a few lovely Janaki numbers. I'll try and upload them all.

Alright Vivek, Here are the other Janaki numbers from Srivariki Premalekha. If you get a chance to see the movie, grab it, it's hilarious.

visuja
Thanks bibhas for those numbers.

Recent uploads of "Kuhu Kuhu Bole Koyaliya" at KD-Rafi and "Thesulaavadhe" at KD-Asha (!!) left me looking for the Telugu version (whats with me and collecting versions ?? sad1.gif abuse.gif ).

would you happen to have it ? unsure.gif smile1.gif

Here are the details:

Song : Hayi Hayiga
Singers : Ghantasala, Jikki
Film : Suvarna Sundari (1955)
Actors : Anjali Devi, Nageswara Rao
Lyrics : Samudrala Sr
Music Director : Adi Narayana Rao

Vivek,
Great song. Has nothing to do with Janaki but am too lazy to open a new thread for one upload. So here it is. I still think that the original version in telugu is the best of the three.

Shivani,
you interested in telugu music ? What/Who are your favorites ?

Briefcase or subscription is a good option in the current situation to get trusted membership.

Thanks bibhas. Me too --- lazy / unsure to ask for this request in a new thread. And anyways, very few visit this side of HF sad1.gif, so no harm I suppose smile1.gif

Yeah great number, but me biased towards Rafi. What to do.. pardon my ignorance of the singers of the B&W telugu and tamil film industry sad1.gif. Also I understand Hindi much better than telugu or tamil sad1.gif. Nevertheless, the music is the same I believe in all 3 versions ? I couldnt find any 'piece' different, but then again.. that might be my own ignorance at work smile1.gif

Shivani, nice to see you here. Like bibhas asked, u interested in telugu / tamil music ? (Sorry for combining the two.... they are sooooo similar smile1.gif ).

Subcribing to briefcase seems to be the only option for now to gain 'Trusted' status. Till then, if u need a particular number, do PM me or any of the friends that uve made at various threads, am sure quite a few would be willing to mail it to you.

bibhas
Vivek,
I agree that despite subtle differences, the music is essentially the same in hindi and telugu versions but I thought Ghantasala navigated the classical pieces with much more ease and keeping the bhaav at its peak than Rafi saab did (no offense to the legend, just my opinion, for this particular song, don't want to start anything like what happened at the KK forum). Also, I have noticed that it makes a difference which version you hear first. If you've heard the hindi version first, then that's bound to have made the impression in your mind. Unni is the same way. There are many marathi and bengali songs that I have heard in friends' voices and despite now having collected the original versions (big thanks to HF), I still prefer to listen to them in the voices I first heard them.

As an aside, isnt that the premise on which remixes / 'revised' versions are released ! To 'familiarise' newer generation to 'old' songs, and even after the so called 'introduction', I find many people stickign to the remix version, bcos thats what they heard first (and is more 'hip' than the ......... 'older' ones). sad1.gif cry.gif

V

PS : Nice topic to discuss on, but I fear many Hf-ers would be too passionate towards the 'older' originals and / or dead against concept of remixes to have a healthy debate (me for one sad1.gif )

thanks

It is a fact that people always like the version which they hear first. In most of the cases when we hear the second version we compare, though unknowingly, how best the singer has sung like the one in the 1st case. Even Md. Rafi in his best days couldn't have sung exactly the way he sang in his original version. The remixes are gaining popularity mostly because of the video part which requires no explanation. To me it is nothing but a mockery of music and the lyrics.

can any one post private songs by Janaki in which she mimics
the voice of 3 or more characters ( e.g. dandaalu swaami on
Lord Tirupati Venkateswara in which she beatifully renders the
voices of a man , a woman , a child and an old woman . This
was recently sung by Janaki on a TV program ) . Thanks

Can somebody post "Vayasu valapu neede sumaa, valadante ne ponu sumaa, nidure kantiki raadu sumaa, idiye toli prema" ("వయసు వలపు నీదే సుమా, వాలదంటే నే పోను సుమా, నిదురే కంటికి రాదు సుమా, ఇడియే తొలి ప్రేమ") Sung by Janaki? I do not know the movie name or other details but it is in the same tune as "ouima ouima ye kya hogaya, inki gali me dil khogaya" from 'Parasmani' of early sixties.
