Gope was a very popular comedian. He made his debut in 1945 in Hindustan Pictures film "Laila Majnu" starring Swarnlata and Nazir. He appeared in many films and made a popular team with character actor Yaqub in many films including "Patanga" "Bazar" "Beqasoor" "Sagaai" "Hungama". His wife was an actress called as Latika who appeared as the friend of Noorjehan and Dilip Kumar in Shaukat Huseein Rizvis "Jugnu" and opposite Raj Kapoor in "Gopinath". He also acted as the father of Nargis in "Chori Chori". His other films included Pyar ki Jeet , Arzoo, Saqi, BaradAri, Tarana, Sanam, Kali Ghata, Mirza Sahiban, Malkin,
