Hi there,

This is also my first post; I'm also a great fan of the great melody queen-not a day goes by for me without listening to a geet or ghazal of hers. I've got a lot of her songs which I'd like to share; Is there an easy way to get an audio recording to digital format? I mean how does one go about converting an audio cassette to digital format?

Hi Arif

Recording from audio tape onto computer is pretty easy, you just need to fulfill some basic hardware and software requirements. You need a walkman/ taperecorder/stereo which has a 'line out' or 'headphone' jack. You need a lead wire whose one end would go into this jack and the other into the 'line in/ mike' of the computer sound card. This is the hardware setteing that needs to be done.

To record sound onto computer there are quite a few good softwares, I mostly use 'Total Recorder' and 'Cool Edit Pro'- you can download any sound recording software from the internet available for free and start recording. smile1.gif

My Salaam to Inaam & Pulkit (& to all Madam lovers!)

Thanks for the advice Pulkit-I will have to try doing that sometime. I'm just so busy at the moment (I'm doing an MSc at the moment & I'm in the final stages of my project!).

It seems to me that most of you are based in India/Pakistan. Are there any NJ admirers based in England (that's where I am). Living in the UK has always presented difficulties when it comes to getting NJ songs/videos etc. One can find her songs in stores over here, but often they're of a limited range. I travelled to Pakistan a few years ago & went on a shopping spree in Lahore (going from one music store to another) in search of her songs. I more or less bought every cassette/video I came across which had NJ written on it. On my return flight, I must have had 35-40 kg in cassettes in my suitcases ( the airport official suspected I had a trade in music!).

What I really want to get my hands on is videos/DVDs of the programme Tarannum which Madam did in the eighties (& of TV programmes before that). I've got videos of Tarannum which she did in 1990. I can enjoy Madam's punjabi song picturised on a "healthy" punjabi actress, but really, I have to say that I enjoy Madam's songs much more when she herself has sang them on TV (seeing her & listening to her at the same time is a different experience for me-does anyone agree with me here?). I really want to see more of the TV programmes she starred in when she was younger (50s, 60s, & 70s).

I believe PTV have got about 125 such songs altogether. I have often wondered how to go about getting access to those songs (I think I may have to make a plan to come to Pakistan & do a robbery at PTV!!!)-That's only if I get desperate!!!

Regards
