Jaise Khoobsoorti dekhne wale ki nazar mein hoti hai.... waise hi Gayeki bhi sunne wale ke kaanon mein hoti hai.
Ab kiske kaan kitne karn-priye hain.... ye to wohi jaan sakta hai....... magar kisi ko bhi Great kahne se pahle...... doosron ki rai le lena bhi zaroori hai......
Is hisab se to Rafi Saheb, Kishore Aur Mukesh ji to Greatest ho gaye na !

i agree with you friend, but time goes on and history unfolds, we will not have just three great singers for ever, more singers will sing, andmore legends will come

today the music scene is hotch-potch, with more than 15 singers competing for every song, in my view, the last singer who dominated an era was definitely kumar sanu (in the early and mid- 90's), he is stil churning out hit songs like BARSAAT KE DIN AAYE, and after having sung more than 10,000, his voice still has great expression ,emotion and power

agar aap ko aur kisi ki rai hi leni hai, to kyoon na aap mere signature ke link par click karein, aur more than 600 die-hard kumar sanu fans se unki rai poochein?, you are most welcome my friend

In my opinion the past few years hindi music has been toilet standard.

I just want to thank todays legends like Kumar Sanu & Udit Narayen for their great contribution to hindi music.............. they represent melody................a continuation of yesteryears..................I hope they are not the last......................I've noticed both are singing less today than what they represented the 90's................but thank fully they still are singing today and it still beats all that new westernised garbage.

in my opinion this was the gateway to their fame

Kumar Sanu..............Aashiqui 1990...............Rahul Roy...........music director Nadeem Shravan

Udit Narayan.............Qayamat se qayamat tak 1988...............Amir Khan........music director Anand Milind

Abhijeet...........is ok too..............Baaghi.................Ek chanchal shokh haseena.............in my opinion thats was his major leap in hindi music...........music director Anand Milind

DEAR FRIEND,

i agree with you whole-heartedly, i am sure that even sanu da would feel humbled by the praise a rafi fan like you has showered upon him, i would like to thank you on his behalf

as sanu da has said in many interviews, he is on a mission to preserve the melody of indian music,

the music directors who don't work with sanu da, and criticise him (ARR ,SEL etc ) are the same who have been wrecking the melody of indian music to shambles, i am glad sanu da has nothing to do with them

me and my fellow sanu fans are on a mission with sanu da, to keep melody alive, that why we call sanu da the 'king of melody'

thank you so much for your kind words friends, it is heartening to know that you support us rolleyes.gif

Kumar Sanu was at his best in the early 90's....................although Udit Narayan wasn't very far behind..........maybe towards the later part of the nineties Udit might have performed better, but thats down to ones personal thinking

Sometimes i wish Kumar Sanu had done more with experimenting with his voice..............because that would have given him that extra edge...........although a legend of today he will be looked back as a legendary singer in years to come too by many new fans of next generation

some of my favourite Kumar Sanu songs.................early nineties - solos
After Aashuqi 1990 some of my personal favourites would be

Mere mehboob ki yehi pehchan hai ~ Salaami 1993 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Sameer
Meri peheli mohobat ho tum ~ Peheli mohobat 1991 ~ Kanak Raj / Faaiz Anwaar
Is tarah aashiqui ka ~ Imthian 1993 ~ Anu Malik / Faaiz Anwaar
Tere dard se dil ~ Deewana 1993 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Sameer
Dil ka kya kasoor ~ Dil ka kya kasoor 1991 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Sameer
Dil jigar nazar kya hai ~ Dil ka kya kasoor 1991 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Nawab Arzoo
Gaa raha hoon is mehfil men ~ Dil ka kya kasoor 1991 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Nawab Arzoo
Main tujhe chhod kar kahan jaoonga ~ Trinetra 1991 ~ Anand Milind / Sameer
Kitna haseen chehra ~ Dilwale 1993 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Sameer
Ek aisi ladki thi jise main pyar ~ Dilwale 1993 ~ Nadeem Shravan / Sameer
Bewaffa bewaffa ho tum ~ Ghar ki izzat 1993 ~ Amar Utpal / Anjaan
Chehra tumhara kitna hai pyara ~ Ishq men jeena ishq men marna 1993 ~ Shyam Surender / Gauhar Kanpuri
Kisi se mujhe pyar hai ~ Ishq men jeena ishq men marna 1993 ~ Shyam Surender / Gauhar Kanpuri
Yeh kaali kaali ankhen ~ Baazigar 1992 ~ Annu Malik / Dev Kohli

to me these songs are awesome...........early nineties belonged to Kumar Sanu

Ant Bhai

I agree that most of the 90's belonged to Sanu, infact most decent songs that I heard once or maximum twice were sung by him. You can add 2 more songs in that list which I have listened more than twice "Dil to Dil Hai" from Zindagi Ek Jua.

And Chori Chori Dil tera from a Mithun movie.

If some one has a CD version of these songs then plz upload.

Seriously speaking if i ever have to make a choice at this point of time i would perfer Sanu over Abhijjet, Sonu, Vinod Rathod and other tom.... harry's. Cant even rememeber their names.

If you guys here carefully, Sonu is trying to sing like Sanu to keep him of the recording rooms. He sounds pathetic.

Sanu's voice is very nasal but thats his style and it has worked for him commercially. I dont think he copies Kishore or sounds like him.

But its my opinion that Sanu has a long way to go before he is categorised as a legend. Still he is better than others.
ANT6
Suhana bhai

I have both of these on original tape
sound is excellent

"Dil to Dil Hai" from Zindagi Ek Jua. 1991

this is a tandem tune
male - Kumar Sanu
female - Asha Bhonsle

----------------------------
And Chori Chori Dil tera from a Mithun movie.

this is from the film "PHOOL AUR ANGAAR 1992"

a nice duet with Sujata Goswami

ANT6
I dont really think much of Sonu Nigam..............too much was expected from him and he couldnt fulfil..............though i give him credit for trying to sing like Rafi then switching over to Kishore.............but in my opinion just a few nice songs to show.............a bit of a let down.
one song i like of his very much is
Woh ankh hi kya ~ Khudaar 1993 ~ Anu Malik / Zameer Kazmi
note this is also a duet by Kumar Sanu & Alka Yagnik

I spoke to a friend in the mid nighties who liked Vinod Rathod and he was saying Kumar Sanu is finished and Vinod is taking over...........Yes i did have a good laugh at his expense............it never happened

-------------------------------------------------------

Abhijeet...........i put him down as my number 3 singer of the singers of the 90's
some of his favourites i like is
Tu mere dil men reheti hu ~ Pehchaan 1993 ~ Anand Milind / Sameer
Ek chanchal shokh haseena ~ Baaghi 1990 ~ Anand Milind / Sameer
Chanjariya...........cant remember but was based on Sunil Shetty
just to name a few

-------------------------------------------

Udit Narayan is awesome he has lent his voice to many great songs..................him and Kumar Sanu reigned the 90's out of the male artists.............my opinion

Although my legendary singer is Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar follows after that, i still have the highest respect for decent singers of today who still bring us melody just like it should be.

Looking at my list of favourite early 90's songs i noticed common music director is Nadeem Shravan and second Anand Milind..............song writer is Sameer.
Later on i will have a look at my favouriye Udit songs from that era to see which music directors and song writers name pops up more

I second that opinion, KS still has a long way to go before he can be termed a legend. To be frank, I do not like his nasal style of singing, and if he sang out of that style, in my opinion he would be a much better singer. But as Suhana bhai said, if it has worked for him all these years then so be it.

I do not think he should be treated the way he is after contributing to film music all these years and should be treated in a better way.

KUMAR SANU owned the HINDI music industry from 1990 to 1995. It wasn't until 1996 when he started to take a break and actually breathe did competitors like ABHIJEET, SONU NIGAM, etc. get a chance. I believe he still is in the GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS for recording the maximum number of songs in one day. You cannot find one NADEEM-SHRAVAN film without hit songs by KUMAR SANU. Only a legend can do work like AASHIQUI, SADAK, SAAJAN, DIL HAI KE MANTA NAHIN, DIL KA KYA KASOOR, JAAN TERE NAAM, DEEWANA, SAINIK, AATISH, STUNTMAN, JEET, etc.. I love UDIT NARAYAN but there is no way I would ever replace SANU in any number from any film listed above.

I can't even imagine Udit or Abhijeet singing the title song of Aashiqui, can you? No offense to KISHORE, RAFI and MUKESH fans but these guys didn't have to compete against VIDEO, CABLE, internet, etc. In their time people watched the new film every friday no matter what. Yes you hear about all the gems these guys did in the 50s through 80s but what choice did we have? Tomorrow I don't think there will ever be another Kumar Sanu. You don't like his nasal style, don't worry there will be 19 others behind you who do. True Udit is close and is probably the number one today but his style can be duplicated and many music directors goto others if he is busy. For Sanu they will wait. bye.gif

So competing against video, cable or internet defines a true legend ?. Where does skill, voice, modulation, range, ability to sing any type of song etc. come into play ?.

Furthermore, saying "what choice did we have" is clearly implying that people were forced to listen to the great legends, and that my friend is not right. There were many choices available at that time, just as there now. You have to remember that these legends were a part of people's lives, they played a role in their upbringing, their was a certain aura of the music and voices of those days that holds a special place not only for the people who grew up in that decade, but also for future generations to come. Implying that people had no choice but to listen to these legends such as Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh etc. is like an insult to these great singers who were also inspirations for the future singers of today.

To each their own opinion.... !

rolleyes.gif I have nothing against RAFI, KISHORE, and MUKESH but honestly how many makers deviated from those singers in the 70s? There was really no threat of competitions like there is today. We have almost a hundred different music shows today and almost a dozen channels that have "Indian Idol" type shows with aspiring talent brought in BOLLYWOOD daily? 30 years ago can you name me any "muqabla" type show on tv? Film producers never took risks like they do today. Yes Rafi was one of the best singers India ever produced but I'm just saying Sanu had to make it under much more extreme circumstances. Bottom line is do you think if Rafi and Kishore were alive today would they still be on top or would they be sidelined for newer talent?

There is competition in every decade wether it be in the past or now.

I do not think Sanu had to make it under more extreme circumstances. Around the time that he was a newcomer, melody was just starting to come back into the industry after a decade full of beated disco and not so great music. There were many singers like himself, Udit, Abhijeet etc. who were vying for a break, and if they got lucky they would get their opportunities, as they did. If not them, it would have been some others who would have gotten the break.

It was more harder to make it big in any musical profession in the past when there were lots of great talents all competing against eachother at one time. Why do you think even such talented music directors as Sonik-Omi were reduced to composing for B-grade movies most of their career. Because they could not break into the top class league taken up by other duos such as S-J, L-P or K-A.

There are alot of talented artists out there who are not getting chances due to the politics of the industry, who have better voices and skills than our so called leading singers today.

Abhijeet and Udit Narayen struggled to make a break in their career throughout the 80's..............they could not get a foot in the door because of the new singers of the 80's who had held them back suchas Suresh Wadker, Shabbir Kumar, Mohd Aziz, Manhar Udhas, even Amit Kumar.

The legandry Kishore Kumar passed away in 1987...............after that there was a big hole in the music industry................you could feel we needed more male singers from 1988 onwards

everyone could feel something was about to change very soon and it did 1988-9

Udit Narayen finally got his major break and was the first through the door with Qayamat se qayamat tak & Dil..........Amir Khan the actor is the new kid on the scene

Kumar Sanu makes a major land mark in Aashiqui.........Rahul Roy the actor..........he sang a song in 1989 too if i remember

Abhijeet gets to share Baaghi with Amit Kumar for Salman Khan...............i believe Shahrukh Khan acted a few songs in Abhijeets voice too in his early films

soon actors like Sunil Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan became very popular alongside Shahrukh Khan, Amir Khan, Salman Khan and Rahul Roy... etc....and Kumar Sanu and Udit Narayan lent their voice to them

Udit Narayen, Kumar Sanu and others [Abhijeet] .....................the timing was right on their entry to the music industry and they made a magnificent impact.............but i can tell you that it was easy 1988-9 onwards...............my view is Kumar Sanu was destined to be one of the newcomers to go to the top, after all he was the son of the great legend Kishore Kumar and brother of Amit Kumar................it was not like the music industry did not know Kumar Sanu............he just needed 1 chance to prove himself and he delivered well

KUMAR SANU the son of KISHORE KUMAR? arrogant.gif You might as well say every KHAN actor is related like some people think. Kumar Sanu is in no way related to the singer Kishore Kumar. I think besides being BENGALI the two have no known ancestry. I think you just about killed the topic so I will end it at that.

That is true ANT bhai, there are great songs in that decade, but for the most part, it wasn't a decade to remember tongue.gif
