Is this Geetaji in this pic (right side of Raj Kapoor) ?

This article said that Pune-based film maker and author Haimanti Banerjee is striving to capture in the first ever biography being written on Geeta Dutt.

Does any one have any update on this ? Has this book been published ?

Yes, paragji. Other famous names of music in that picture : Hemant Kumar (behind Geeta Dutt), Meena Kapoor, Anil Biswas (next to Rafi), Rafi

I disagree. Both Meena apa and Geeta ji are far from being ''ugly''.

Ugliness ( BEAUTY ) is in the eyes of the beholder...............so goes the saying.

I think "ugly" here is a relative term. What Bappa meant to say was how she had spoled her health (and looks) after demise of her husband.

Just to let you know, Bappa was a die-hard fan of Geetaji.

Would like to add another thing since you seem to be new to HF (not that I am very senior here). Bappa Chatterji expired at a very young age last year.

It was a great loss to his family and also this forum where he was a dedicated contributor.

I am sure you would have seen some discussion about planned programs birth anniversary of Geetaji on 23rd of November (i.e. coming Thursday)

That is something which makes me very sad too !

In the group phot of Geetaji with RajKapoorsaab and Rafi saab the lady with the young girl seems to be Leela Naidu.

I lived in Mumbai briefly from 1966 to 1975. I lived in Santacruz-west and Geetaji stayed in the same building as us. She had moved there soon after I think-Guruduttji passed away. She had her 3 little children-2 boys Tarun, Arun and the young girl-can't remember her name.
There were a lot of film people in the same building-Mohan Chotiji, Hemantda's sisterinlaw, Br.R. Chopraji's chief editor, Jeetendraji's sister etc. We used to have great time at Holi where Geetaji and Tuntunji Mohanji and everyone would come down and play holi. They used to sing as well and really very down to earth and loving. Geetaji and Tuntunji used to sing in their melodious sweet voice and really make us feel special. She always had a smile for us and no airs about her at all. It was a very sad day for all of us when she passed away. She was very lonely after her husband passed away and drank a lot. But you could hear her listening to Anubhav songs and singing with them sometimes.!!!

Jairaj ji, many thanks for this specail piece of information. I must say you are one of the luckest few who got to see and hear Geetaji in person. Whatever I read about Geetaji is always in tune with my understanding that "She was a very noble human being apart from being a great singer".

whenever i saw your name, your posts, personal messages, i was reminded of this picture.

2 days ago, i went home and found this book in library.


your father couldn't have got this book in pune even if he had remembered it.

i couldnt get this book anywhere in pune. shopkeepers say its out of print, adding that there are at least 10/15 readers every month asking for this book.

i am glad that i could upload it in time before her birthday celebrations..

I am not sure if Bawara Jay ji is active on HF or not..but he had mentioned in one of the threads that he had some very rare clippings and pics of Geeta ji..

Thanks all for providing these rare photos of geeta dutt.I still repend why I didn't visit this thread before.After reading her and her husbands tragic death so early my heart feels sad and tears comes out of my eyes when ever I see guru dutt's film and listen to geeta dutt's songs.I feel very sad whenever I think about the beautiful and great singer like her who provided such a great songs to admirer like us lived such a miserable life.A big thanks to all for providing rare photos and her brief boigraphy in this thread.Hats off to all contributors.

Hello mahesh...I do not know about Dharmendra or Raj Babbar specifically, but about Kishore I can tell with full authority that it was a rumour. Do you know the date of his divorce and date of wedding with Madhubala ? If not please do stop spreading rumours on the internet ( thank god that I stumbled on this post while doing some internet search on Kishore )

And regarding mistreatment with Ruma it was not becasue of Madhubala, but because of his less attention towards Ruma when Kishore was producing 3 movies , directing 2 movies , giving music to 1 movie and acting in 9 movies, in the last three years that he spent with Ruma ( before the official divorce )

Please stop spreading rumours, it is an earnest request.
