First of all my sincere admiration to Annapoorna Devi
silent saint.
Some of great masters had a great honour to be disciples
of this wonderful person. like Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia,
Pt.Nikhil Banerjee and Ustad Aashish Khan.
In an article dedicated to her, that I found on the following
address http://www.chembur.com/anecdotes/annapoorna.htm
was written
"She lives to impart her father's teachings. She said, once, when asked the reason why she chose the life of a recluse: "My father, during my years of studentship, would repeatedly tell me that music should not be treated as a product for public display. It was a means of achieving one's own fulfilment which should lead to one's own development as a human being."
As We know Her Father was Ustad Allaudin Khan whose disciples, among others,
were his son Ustad Ali Akbar Khan,Pt.Ravi Shankar,Pt.Panalal Ghosh,
Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan and Amir Khan.
There is admiration and love in my heart for this wonderful person.

I suppose that some her rare performances were recorded.
Please could someone upload that rare gems.

Thanks for the lovely articles, I had only read the first one before. Her recordings are available to listen to at Rajan Parrikar's website. I would also love if someone could upload mp3s of what few recordings exist.

Dear Bibhas,

what facinates me is the fact that she,
in spite of all circumstances, had preserved
love for music, the great knowledge and deep
understanding of music and the inner beauty
which she received from her father.
Her choise was the music as the inner voice
of the reality.
She had great strength of our ancestors,
necessary to preserve and to transfer
great knowledge, and all who were her
students are really touched by divine grace.

She is really the silent saint.
