Full Version: Yaarey Man Biya
Hamara Forums > Music > Raag Rang

I heard this tarana in darbari on PTV a long time ago.
"yaarey man biya. balabam raseeda janam. tu biya ki zinda manam".
I think the recording was by salamat ali and nazakat ali.
however there are many other versions.
I think Amir khan has also sung it.
Does any one have it.

here is a modern day attempt, a rather good attempt at
this. it is fused with western music. the singer is jawad bahir and the
music arrangment is by the talented meekal hassan.
They make good use of modern instruments and effects.
http://muziq.net/showpage.php?page=album.p...d=176&albid=all

click on where it say darbari.
some purist may not like it. I like it.
enjoy.
peace.

Mekaal Hasan's musical arrangement & Javed Bashir's vocals (leading & backing) are brilliant. The demo version featuring Riaz Ali Khan's deep & mature voice is amazing in a completely different way. Its a great loss that we didn't get to hear Riaz Ali sing Darbari (Yaare Man Biya) on the album.

Hold on, there is another version. where can I get it from
I am guessing that Riaz Ali is the one who sang the first version
of 'kadi aa mil sanwal".
I like that singer better than Jawad bashir.
where can I listen Darbari in Riaz's voice.
extenok
Hold on till saturday. wink2.gif
waqas
it is sunday already.
by the way. why did u want me to wait till sat. unsure.gif
extenok
Because I was going to give you this:

Riaz Ali's version & Amir Khusrau's piece which it is inspired from.
waqas
Mr Extenok
i have to say that it was worth the wait.
Riaz Ali's one is completely different.
And my persian is not that good. smile1.gif
Could u translate.

I only know.
yaarey man biya: come here my beloved.
balabam raseeda janam: my life is on my lips.
tu biya ke zinda manam: come here and make me alive .

how was it. impressed by my persian? baby.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tonight there came a news that you, oh beloved, would come –
Be my head sacrificed to the road along which you will come riding!
All the gazelles of the desert have put their heads on their hands
In the hope that one day you will come to hunt them….
The attraction of love won’t leave you unmoved;
Should you not come to my funeral,
you’ll definitely come to my grave.
My soul has come on my lips (e.g. I am on the point of expiring);
Come so that I may remain alive -
After I am no longer – for what purpose will you come?

Inaam
I remember, there was a version of this Darbari sung by famous Kaafi singer (Late) Shahida Perveen. She had sung this for PTV’s program “Sur Bahaar” (It was a tribute musical series to Amir Khusro). I had this song on Videotape but unfortunately I have lost it. sad1.gif It was a wonderful song.

I get it.
Now that u have translated it, I can go back to the
persian version and look at the meaning of each word.
it is beautiful ain't it.
i think the english translation has killed it. I think english lacks the
spirit of persian or urdu for that sake.
imagine "my head sacrifieced to the road" and " the gazelles
have put thier heads on hands".
sound rediculous to me. what do u say.
It is very difficult to translate peotry.
I think the translator has done a decent job.

Waqas,

The original is indeed beautiful. The translation does what its supposed to do. Provide the reader with an understanding of what the poet is trying to convey.
English cannot do justice to persian or urdu prose, just as you can't express Shakespeare, Milton, Joyce or Poe in urdu, now, can you? The translator's work, nevertheless, in this case is admirable. I hope you will enjoy the track as much as I do, after learning the background.

After listening to the vocals on this, I am very eager to listen to this piece in a pure classical format.
Anybody have it?
extenok
Sarkaar,

I recall Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sahab's qawwali which expanded the 4 line Khusrau piece into 17 minutes of bliss. I don't have an mp3, recorded streaming media yes.

Since you enjoyed Riaz Ali's voice, I'm attaching here the other two available songs in his voice.

The only female version I have come across is by Kankana Bannerjee; it was released as part of an Amir Khusro commemorative album in the 1980s. Is this a 3-4 minute version? If so, it is most probably hers.

Warm regards,
Abhay

Inaam sahab, aapne jo Yaar-e-Man Biya upload kiya hai, woh kiski awaaz hai ?
Inaam
Bibhas Ji, I don’t have any information about the singer, I think it is sung by Kankana Bannerjee as abhayp mentioned in his post (# 20).

I had another version of this Darbari Bandish in the voice of Shahida Perveen. Unfortunately I have lost the tape. sad1.gif I am sure Agar aap wo sunte to Kankana Bannerjee ke version ko bhool jaate. smile1.gif

For you, my dear sir, I shall upload both Riaz Ali's version & NFAK's version.
Can't make any promises about the NFAK version, as I couldn't find it on my computer, will have to look for it on my mp3CD collection.

Wah Inaam saab, mashallah kya translation hai. Urdu tarjumah itna khoobsurat hai to farsi original kya khoob hoga. Unfortunately the beauty does not survive till the english translations-- I have yet to find any book or translator who can preserve the magnificence of urdu classics while going to english.

Anyway, thanks for sharing this gem. Padh ke mazaa aa gaya.
