His music transcends all barriers - linguistic, geographical and chronological. He is a phenomenal success and incredibly talented. It is amazing to see the ease with which Balu can render his voice for any language. To date, he has sung over 36000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Tulu, Oriya, Assamese and Punjabi.

Born as Sripathi Panditharadhyula Balasubrahmanyam on June 4, 1946, SPB was never trained to be a singer. A young, Telugu-speaking lad from Andhra Pradesh, he was studying to pursue a career in Engineering. He had a natural flair for singing and participated in most of the singing contests from college. In one such contest, was spotted by his mentor the late, Sri. S.P. Kodandapani. Balu won the first prize and walked out with his first break to sing in the film "SRI SRI SRI MARYADA RAMANNA" in 1966. Thus began a legendary career which became history.

Here's another song from the same movie, "Pantulamma". This is a duet with P. Susheela. I like the expressive voice that SPB has lent for this song.

I have been downloading, but that is because I am a die-hard SPB fan. I
rank him among the best and most consistent singers of the last 50 years
in Indian cinema. Went to a live concert of his recently and came out
floating on Cloud 9. His voice was perfection.

Had followed his career starting from the sensational hit in Tamil, "Aayiram Nilave Va" for an MGR movie, which pitchforked SPB as an overnight success and ended the reign of the great TMS.

I am not familiar with his Telugu songs, hence the uploads are most welcome. Thanks, Bibhas, and do please keep them coming.

The moviename for your upload is - Raavanude Raamudaite. The mule is linguistically challenged Bibhas, but may be able to help a bit.

How is that song from Hrudayam (Ilayaraja), Usulaade, oka jaabilata not here? I thought it was one of the best of SPB (and feel the Tamil version being better). Or even, 'Marumalliya kanna tellanidi'? *sigh*

I got a bad version of Telugu and a better one of Tamil. Now I like the Telugu one (by SPB) better than the Tamil (Jesudas).

Thanks Aahat, appreciate your effort. On my last trip to Hyd, I tried finding a lot of these songs from the 70s but could only get 50s-60s stuff or 90s stuff.

Just one clarification Aahat. The Tamil version that you uploaded was the sad
version of the song which is sung by Ilayaraja himself. I have attached the
happy version which is by Yesudas as you said.

Thanks and I needed that. I got the mp3 and while listening I couldn't believe it was the original. I had to check with my Tamil friends who confirmed that it was the original. The confusion was partly due to the fact that I thought there was only one version of the song..., for I did not see the entire movie. Thanks a lot for the clarification and the mp3.

Unfortunately, I have just started collecting Telugu songs.. so im still collecting what could be termed as an 'average' collection that any regular telugu movie buff would have in his collection. So Im not too knowledgeable to make specific requests ! considering i didnt know a musical film named Sapthapadhi even existed, so you know how new I'm to Telugu film music.

Nevertheless, I did see your requests and all of them were new to me. So thanks for introducing them. If I come across any good numbers, I'll definitely request you to upload them.

It's Bibhas- no "ji" . My collection isn't too impressive either, mostly oldies. I kind of got out of touch with telugu music after the early 90s, so don't know much music that made headlines since then. Sapthapadi has beautiful music, like all other Vishwanath movies. Do listen if you get a chance.

A fantastic song from Pooja sung melodiously by SPB and Vani Jayaram. It's one of my all-time favorites: Ennenno Janmala Bandham Needi Naadi. Incidentally, there is an equally beautiful kannada version of this song, would love it if someone could upload it. Will also cross post this in the Kannada forum.

Pata nahin kyun ..... SPB sounds very much like Yesudas in this one. Maybe bcos he's sung without his characteristic modulations / 'antics' , in a very 'soft' voice. I had conculded its Yesudas after a long deliberation when I first heard the number

I suppose MD is Ilayaraja ? I think I have it in my 'original Telugu' IR collection

The tune did sound very familiar to me when I first heard it. Mayeb it has a Tamil version too, which I'm unaware of !

No Vivek, this is a much older number, from the 70s, so its pre-Ilayaraja days. I think the MD is either Vijaybhaskar or Rajan-Nagendra.
The reason you don't hear any of SPB's antics is because it was from his pre-antic days, when all he used was his soft, soothing voice, just the way I like to listen to SPB.

Oh now I remember !! Bibhas...I had looked for this number after reading your earlier request for this song and had recorded it off the net from the link given by aahat. Anyways your version is of a higher quality than the one I had recorded So thanks for the . Hmm.. so u DID have a hand in developing my taste and here I was feeling proud of it Telugufm lists the MD as Rajan Nagendra.

I also see u had requested for 'Oosulaade' from Hrudayam. I can uploaded it for you though again being recorded from net, its only @ 56kbps.
