the 1st time I heard her was in the song " humain tum say piyar kitna".
And ever since I wonder how come Kishore's version is more popular.
what a voice and what a skill.

I'll appreciate any numbers in her voice, if someone is gracious enough to upload them.
Any other movie songs.
Or any classical numbers.
in any language.
I would like to hear Darbari in her voice. I have yet to hear darbari in a female voice.

I would be really thankfull if someone could get me some perween sultana classicals.

Waqas,
Here is a personal favorite in two parts. The not so common Raga Nandkauns/Nandkosh. By the way, this is the only piece I have in this Raga and I would welcome additions. I know Amjad Ali Khan has a recording of this raga too.

Waqas,
I quote from Rajan Parrikar's brief description -
"Raga Nandkauns

Nandkauns represents a happy marriage of Jog with Malkauns (it bears no relation to Raga Nand). The poorvAnga of Jog - S G M, (S)g->S - is grafted onto Malkauns. The powerful madhyam dominates the proceedings. A sample chalan is:

S, (n’)d’ n’, n' S, S n’ g, g->S
S G G M, G M (n)d (n)d n d, M P G M, S G M P, G M (S)g->S "

It surely is a hauntingly beautiful raga.
waqas
Wow!
This information was a bit too much for me.
I don't know what poorvAnga mean.
The rest of it I got.
Thanks
I have heard Maulkuans and Jog. I'll hear them again to see.

Here is some info on poorvang vadi raag:

acc to http://satrangimusic.netfirms.com/Raag%20Time%20Cycle.htm

QUOTE
The part of the saptak(octave) from Sa to Ma (sa re ga ma ) is called poorvang (earlier part) of a raag and from Ma to taar saptak Sa (pa dha ni sa) is called uttarang (later part) of the raag.

QUOTE
The 24 hours of a day are divided into 2 parts
1> From 12 P. M. to 12 A.M.--This is called Poorva Bhaag and raags sung in this period are called poorva raags.
2> From 12 A.M. to 12 P.M.--This is called Uttar Bhaag and the raags in this period are called uttar raags.

Then it goes on to define Poorvang Vaadi raag :

QUOTE
Poorvang Vaadi raag : The raags in which the vaadi swar lies in the poorvang are called poorvang vaadi raag. These raags are rendered in the poorva bhag of the day i.e. 12 A. M. to 12 P.M.

If Poorva Bhaag is defined as 12 P.M. to 12 A.M., then, why does it say 12 A. M. to 12 P.M.? So either the definition of Poorva Bhaag is wrong or the Poorvang Vaadi raag is ill-defined.

The trouble is that countless web sites have just copied the same as above from one another. So what is the truth?

Anyway, have you heard Parveen Sultana singing "Kaun Galee Gayo Shyam" from Pakeezah? The same composition has also been sung by ever sweet Prabha Atre.

Here it is..
waqas
NO I had not listened to it.
Thanks to u now I have.
She was probably young when she sang this song
I can tell by her voice.
The essence of youth is there. However, there is no lack of maturity.
Thanks my friend.

Anurag,
I looked up V.N.Bhatkhande's Kramik Pustak Malika and he defines Poorvang Vaadi raags as the ones sung from midnight to noon and Uttarang vaadi raags are sung from noon to midnight. Guess your website got the definition of poorva and uttar bhag wrong.

Just for the sake of clarification, "Sadra Bhairavi" is not a variant of Bhairavi (unlike Jangla Bhairavi and Sindhu Bhairavi). "Saadra" is a vocal music form like Khayal, Dhrupad, Tarana, Tappa etc and Parween Sultana's famous "Bhavani Dayani" is a "saadra" in Raag Bhairavi. The Saadra was originally composed by none other than the great musician, vaaggeyakaara and shaastrakara, V.N. Bhatkhande.

It goes:
bhavaani, dayaani, mahaa baaka baani
sura nara muni jana maani, sakala budha gyaani
jaga janani, jaga jaani, mahishaasura maradani
jwaalaamukhi chandi, amar pad daani

Thanks for the wonderful request and Thanks to Shaibaal for the lovely upload.

Anurag,
I would be delighted ...and grateful. I have a light classical version of Nandkauns in Bangla and I guess it should be in some other thread - but here it is. The singer is Ramanuj Dasgupta. Just love the raga..

This is an absolutely wonderful song. Ramanuj Dasgupta's voice is really beautiful, it's the first time I've heard of him. Do you have more details on the artist and any more of his songs? Would love to hear'em.

Bibhas,
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Actually I was visiting family in your neck of the woods and got back last evening.
Ramanuj Dasgupta was well known for being an exponent of Nazrul Geeti and Ragaprodhan songs - as semiclassical songs are referred to in Bangla. He kind of disappeared from the scene a few years ago but has some recent releases signalling a comeback of sorts. He also sang for a few bangla films. I have uploaded a few of his songs in the "kachcha dhaaga" thread under 'Bengali'.

Regards and thanks for all the wonderful uploads all you guys have been making - I had a feast after I got back!
