thanks for this clap1.gif yes it is indeed Shyamal Mitra .. but i think he may be going a bit fast (!) doh.gif like maybe at 50 rpm instead of 45 rpm ... so his voice sounds a bit thin

wonder if unni can do some magic and slow him down somewhat - to sound like he should ! the small clip i uploaded earlier, seemed to be at the right speed and could be used as a reference point

Dear Priya,

Shyamal Mitra it is. The hindi version was sung by Rafi-saab in Poonam Ki raat: 'dil tadpe tadpaaye'.

Shyamal-babu is a singer who is very close to my heart with a melancholy voice that was unrivalled in our country. Uploading a rare song of his from a late 50's movie called 'baari theke paaliye'. Hope you like it. It's based on a folk tune but as usual the music director leaves an indelible stamp of his genius on this song.

I leave it to Hits-ji to name the music director & the hindi version of this song!

Thanks a lot for this song from baari theke paaliye

The music director is Salil Chowdhury

The hindi version appeared in the film 'Half ticket' 1962 and was sung by Kishore Kumar. The words of the hindi version are "Arre le lo ji le lo hai yeh dil ka heera sachha"

Thanks Joydeep for this wonderful Shyamal Mitra song.....His adhunik(s) are great

1.) Sediner Sona jhora sandhyay
2.) O simul bon
3.) Emono din aaste paare
4.) Ei pothe jai chole

is all I can remember from so many records of S Mitra that I have left back in Cal.
(The irony is Here in US I have a record player, but not the records....Maybe soon I can get them here!!!)

For your songs I have to get a software that can Rip from VCD.....
Unniji will help me to do that.....Right at this moment I am just soooooooo busy at work etc. etc. that I can hardly be on the computer for long to figure things out. Please give me this month.
