Mohd Shafi was a master tabla player, and a composer very dear to Lata's heart. Even in a score so emphatically dominated by a composer of Sajjad Husain's stature as 'Hulchul', Mohd Shafi, when called upon to complete the film's score, gave us a Lata gem to savour forever, in the form of "Ek jhoothi si tasalli woh mujhe deke chale" [no less memorable, of course, was Mukesh's song with the same 'mukhda' in Roshan's 'Shisham']. In the 1953 'Daara', too, Lata's virtuosity, in the compositional custody of Mohd Shafi, stood out in "Do din ki bahaaren khatm huyi" and "Aa nainon mein jhoomkar saajna", which are posted here, alongside Lata-Hemant's "Do bol tere meethe meethe":

(2.55/128)

(2.53/128)

(3.10/128)

Inviting all to post these other 'Daara' numbers:

(1) Bandhan hain haathon ke kangan ... Naina jhuke jhuke - Lata
(2) Jahan takra gaye do dil ... Naach se apne jaadu jagati hoon main - Asha & Bande Hasan
(3) Chain se baithega kaise ... Tu baitha reh Bhagwan bana - Lata'
(4) Chalo hum kahar ko mitane chale hain - Bande Hasan, Imtiyaz & Zawar Husain
