Santaanam (1955) - A Telugu Film

SP, the Lata-Ghantasala duet is available at :

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=69323

But I think there is no such duet in the movie. This is a gimmick by HMV

Madhu

Thank you very much Madhu for the song. Some time back I saw the movie but I am not sure whether the duet was in it or not. Cheers. -S

(Dharmendra) Phool aur Patthar (1966)

This was a star making movie for Dharmendra. Interestingly he was the second choice for the role as Sunil Dutt was not immediately available to play the lead. I am glad this happened. Sunil was a fine actor but not for these kind of roles. This role in no way was meant for him. It was pure Dharmendra's.

Dharmendra brings the ruggedness and the manliness with his personality and ignites the screen in some scenes. Much before Salman Khan made it popular to take off his shirt to show off his physique even if it is not necessary to do, Dharmendra did this in this movie in a very unforgettable scene. He did this not to show off his physique but because the scene demanded it.

O.P. Ralhan who produced, directed, also acted in the movie. While making the movie he had differences with Dharmendra. Dharam almost quit the movie in protest. However better senses prevailed. Many think that this was because Dharam was romantically involved with Meena as she was going through a rough time in her marriage. Whatever the reasons are, in the end when the movie was completed it became a sensational hit. Dharam was even nominated as the Best Actor Filmfare Award for his performance. However, he lost to Dev Anand who took the award for the fine movie "Guide".

The music by Ravi also helped the movie's popularity immensely. All Asha's numbers became very popular and so was Rafi Saab's solo "Mere Dil Ke Andar".

I am uploading all of the songs from an original soundtrack album below. For some reason the quality of one of the songs, "Tum Kaun", is not that crisp. If you can bear with it for about a minute or so, which is mostly music, then the song seems to be alright.

Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

"Sheeshe Se Pee" is worth watching the movie for all by itself: my favorite Shashikala number of all time.

Thanks for these smile1.gif

(Manoj) Shaheed (1965)

Here is the first film in which Manoj played "Bharat". Subsequently he took the same name in several movies he was in, mostly patriotic oriented. Critics started calling him "Mr. Bharat".

This movie, one of the early movies on the life of the martyr Bhagat Singh, ran into financial troubles midway through its production. Manoj, who played Bharat in the movie, stepped in to rescue the film by financing it and seeing it through a successful completion. With several beautiful songs, composed by Prem Dhawan who penned most of the lyrics, the movie was a modest success.

Here are these songs from an original soundtrack album ...

Hi SP,

You have mentioned Rajendra Bhatia as co-singer for couple of songs. HFGK mentions the name as Rajendra Mehta. Not sure which one is correct.
