My Dear Taiyab,

Thanks for pointing out the error in duplicate songs. I have corrected the table for this.

However, I am confused about the year. I was also originally under the impression that this movie was from 1959. I have uploaded last year or year before these songs in the "Muse & Music" thread with that year for the movie. The reason I thought this time I was incorrect in the first place was because there is another movie of the same name from 1959 that has Dara Singh in it. Its music was provided by G.S. Kohli. Also several net references suggested that this may from 1969. Because you have Geet Kosh handy, can you please kindly verify this for me before I change the year to 1959?

Thanks a bunch.

Cheers,
S

Okay. I got it. Many references lists Dara's movie also as if it is from year 1959. Thanks for your generous offer to upload these four songs. Actually I do have all four of them.

Thanks again for checking these out.

Cheers,
S

(Dev) Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971)

Most of the following write up appeared in one of my earlier posting of this album...

Zeenat made a sensational appearance in this movie auguring a new era of womanhood in Bombay filmdom. Never before this film had the audience seen in a Hindi movie a woman puffing smoke and enjoying the company of drug addicts. In Raj Kapoor’s classic film “Shree 420 (1955)”, Nadira smoked a cigarette, but she was showing off fashionable elegance. In this movie, Zeenat was showing an indifferent irreverence towards anything so called decent life loving norms humans believe in. She put on quite a convincing show. The kudos and tributes go to the director of the movie, Dev Anand.

This was Dev's second movie as a director. After the miserable flop of his first directorial venture “Prem Pujari (1970)”, Dev was looking to reprieve himself by coming up with something unforgettable. That he did with this movie about pop culture and its effect and consequences on people’s lives. The movie was based on Dev’s own story idea. For Dev, this smashing success will elude for the rest of his career. He was never able to repeat the similar spectacular success he enjoyed with this film.

Another contributing factor for the success of the movie was R.D. Burman's mesmerizing music. Dev rightfully chose RD, instead of RD’s father SD who was his regular, to compose the music for the film. RD responded with a bang by providing unforgettable music that was full of heat and beat. The song "Dum Maaro" became an instant cult phenomenon. Huffing and puffing, Asha breathes life into the song making it a beautiful listening experience. The oomph, the "mast", it is all there. It is simply an unforgettable lovely.

Sometime back I was in attendance at one of Asha's concerts. She recited the story that the song "Dum Maaro" almost didn't make it. Dev Anand wanted to scrap it thinking that it will project a wrong image and may be not necessary to the proceedings of the story. But better senses prevailed. The song did remain in the movie and became such an integral part of the story. Asha won the Best Female Singer Award for the song from Filmfare.

Zeenat was not the first actress of choice for the role she played in the movie. Several others were considered including Mumtaz. But Mumtaz wanted to play the part of the leading lady opposite Dev. Then the role was offered to Zeenat which she readily accepted. For her stunning performance, Zeenat earned the Best Support Actress Award from Filmfare magazine. She also won the BFJA Award as the Best Actress.

While making the movie, Dev went to court to have Mumtaz available for shooting of the film in Nepal. She was a busy actress during this time and producers did not want her to go on an extended period of time without honoring her other commitments. When they tried to stop, Dev went to the court and got a verdict in his favor. The movie was shot without further hitch.

I am uploading the songs of this film from an original soundtrack album, a couple of specials, and some instrumentals in three back-to-back postings. Here is a description of the songs and the songs themselves from the first post...

(Kishore) Door Ka Raahi (1971)

Kishore’s genius has never been more evident than in this film. He had nine different responsibilities in making this film. He wrote the (1) screenplay from his own (2) story. He (3) produced and (4) directed the film. He (5) sang four solos and a duet with Sulakshana Pandit. He also wrote (6) lyrics for one song “Main Ek Panchhi” sung by his son Amit Kumar. He (7) composed the music for the film. He was the main (8) actor in the film. Interestingly the duet he sang, he lent his voice as a (9) playback singer for his older brother Ashok Kumar who had a pivotal role in the film. Anyway one looks at it that is quite an accomplishment…

I am uploading songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. Here is the first set…

(Dev) Tere Mere Sapne (1971)

This is another memorable musical score from Burmanda. When it comes to melody Burmanda is always up there on the top of the charts. He was assisted in this film by his wife Meeraji. She was a singer as well as a musician. When Burmanda was ailing in early 70's she served as an assistant music director for seven of his films.

This movie was based on A.J. Cronin's "Citadel" novel and the actor and director Vijay Anand treats the subject with lots of care combining entertainment with moral dilemmas. In 1972 it was remade in Bengali. It was also made in Telugu in 1982 as "Madhura Swapnam".

I am uploading songs from this film from an original soundtrack album in two back-to-back posts. Here are the songs in the first post from the melodious music of Burmanda...
