(Dev) Birha Ki Raat (1950) There are some great songs in this album. I am uploading these below, all by the courtesy of the Forum members ... Bahut purdadrd hain...wah , wah kya gaan hai, another beauty by the emperor of playback singing PLAYBACK SINGING STARTS AND ENDS WITH RAFISAAB. IN TERMS OF QUALITY, CONSISTENCY & VERSATILITY, RAFISAAB IS INFINITE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF ALL SINGERS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HIM. |

(Kishore) Naukri (1954)
Bimalda tackled so many socially relevant issues in his movies that most of his films stand as towering pillars of Indian cinema. He was brilliant. He was a genius. He was insightful. He was relevant. Take this movie, for example. It tackles the issue of unemployment. This was in 1954. The subject is still very relevant even today. Bimalda tackles this social evil, or malaise, in such a sensitive way that you cannot help but love for his deep insights into the human psyche. Here he has Kishoreda as his actor. In the hands of Bimalda, Kishore comes through as one of the sensitive and restrained performers. The pathos, the pensiveness, the gloom, the helplessness, yet the ray of hope, hope for a better tomorrow - all these moods and shades of life Kishoreda brings in brilliantly. This movie also introduced Mahmood in a bit role. Salilda was skeptical about Kishoreda's singing abilities. He initially dismissed him as a singer because Kishoreda had no formal training in music or singing. But after taking a couple of trial tests, Salilda was impressed enough that he let him sing the song "Chhota Sa Ghar Hoga". Salilda originally had Hemantda in mind to sing this song, but instead settled on Kishoreda. Hemantda does sing an abbreviated version of this song. Kishore's song almost starts like yodelling with "Aa Airey Aa Airey" and picks up with a beautiful rhythm. An absolute beauty. Kishoreda also sings a couple of other beauties. One is "Arji Hamaari" which starts like a dialogue and transforms into a beautiful song. Then the other one is the song "Ek Chhoti Si Naukri" that Kishoreda sang with Shankar Dasgupta and Shyam Mitra. Then there is another beautiful song by Geetaji, "Jhoome Re". In Geetaji's beatifully stylized distinctive sweet voice, one can feel the pleasures of the first flush of love. A real lovely. Here are the songs ...
