Thodisi Bewafaii (1980)

Here is a real beauty from Khayyam. As generally is the case, he is on the mark here too. This was touted as a comeback vehicle for Rajesh. He did bounce back briefly but could never capture back his old charm. His costar in this movie was Shabana Azmi, that great actress of our movies.

Dhanwan (1981)

Here is one fine album from Hridyanath Mangeshkar. His mainline cinema work is very limited, but whenever an opportunity came, he always proved he is every bit worth of it. The songs from this movie offer an excellent example of this.

There is an "R" phenomenon going on in this movie. First there is Rajesh. Then there is RR - Reena Roy. Next it is another RR - this time it is Rakesh Roshan. Of course Rakesh is famous for titling his own movies with the letter "K". But that is another story.

Fiffty-Fiffty (1981)

Here is an unusual spelling for the word "fifty". This movie came during the days of real life romance between Tina Munim and Rajesh. But it didn't do much for the movie. Irrespective of that there are some nice songs in this album. Here they are ...

Kudrat (1981)

Chetan Anand once again teams up with Rajesh Khanna whom he directed in his debut movie "Aakhri Khat (1966)". Among others it also stars Chetan's wife, Priya Rajvanshi. I think she is a poor actress but she apppeared in every movie Chetan made starting from "Haqeeqat". Interestingly, she plays the daughter of Raaj Kumar in this movie. She played Heer in Chetan's that unique movie where all of the dialogues were in verse form, "Heer Ranjha", in 1970 opposite Raaj Kumar's Ranjha. "Kudrat" has other stellar cast and some great inspired music by RD who not only composed several beautiful songs but also had scored haunting background music as well. It probably was the only time he composed music for the elder Anand. For Dev Anand's "Funtoosh (1956)", which Dev's elder brother Chetan directed, according to the lyricist Gulshan Bawra, who was a close friend of RD, and other industry sources, "Aye Mere Topi Palat Ke Aa" was actually composed by RD who served as an assistant music director to his father SD, who composed music for that movie.

Concluding Songs of "Kudrat (1981)"

In this post I am including the extended version of Rafi's song "Dukh Sukh". This is by the courtesy of the Forum members. Thank you. I am also including a version song by Asha and Sudesh Bhosle of "Chhodo Sanam". This is taken from her CD album "Asha Reveals Real R.D. Burman (Disc 2)". Finally I am including the song "Humein Tum Se Pyaar Kitna" with a glowing introduction of RD by Majrooh Sultanpuri, its lyricist. This is from the album "Legends: R.D. Burman - The Versatile Composer (CD 5)".
