I have started a thread to upload songs of another of my favourite singers Shamshad ji here:

I have posted two songs.
The first song is a wonderful duet of hers with hamida ji, Dil thandi hawa mein ... piya ki yaad aaye re from Shama (1946).

The second song is a wonderful and has a special characteristic - its a multilingual songs. i haven't heard of another multilingual song with so many languages - hindi, bengali, marathi, gujrati, punjabi, tamil it has them all. It has lots of humour. One of the best work by Qamar Jalalabadi ji due to the difficulty of the task in my opinion. The song is Yeh Duniya Roop Ki Chor from Shabnam (1949).

If somebody were to ask me my favourite shamshad songs these two would rank way high.

Hope you all enjoy them as much as I have.

I am next uploading songs of the classic movie Anmol Ghadi(1946) after getting inspired by Faraaj ji's request.
It is one of the classic movies of Indian Cinema.
It is known to english audiences as the priceless watch.

Plot: School-going Chandrabhan lives a poor lifestyle with his widowed mom in a small town in India, and has a childhood sweetheart named Lata, who is the daughter of the wealthy Deputy. Chandrabhan is heartbroken when Lata leaves town, and he has only a time-piece left with him as a token of their friendship. Years later, Chandrabhan has grown up, and has found employment in a guitar and musical instrument repair shop run by the owner and his friend, Prakash. Chandrabhan, a frequent reader of poetry, is fascinated by the poems of Renuka Devi, and longs to meet her. He does get to meet her, only to find out that the woman in reality is her friend, Basanti, who was impersonating her, as she had fallen in love with him, though he has no similar feelings for her. He does get to meet Renuka Devi, and is pleasantly surprised when he finds out that she is none other than Lata herself. Before Chandrabhan could plan anything else, he finds out that Prakash is getting engaged to Lata; Prakash's mother hates him; and he decides to return home along with his ailing mom. The question remains will Lata and Chandrabhan be re-united in this lifetime?

Part 2 of Anmol Ghadi

This movies songs make me realise what the bombay film industry missed by having Noor Jehan Ji move out and Suraiyya semi-retiring after flops in 50s before finally retiring in 1965. Perhaps the kind of songs we heard in the coming years would have been so different.
