I heard this song recently and uploading. It is in very good qualtiy also.
The song is bogi bogi from Ham Log (1951) and songs quite a bit like a rap song in places!

It has been sung by Shamshad Begum and G M Durrani.
Music is by Roshan.
128 kbps
03:14

There don't seem many threads on G.M.Durrani here
Can somebody tell me more about him.
He seems to have sung many songs particularly in 1940s and Rafi is supposed to have been inspired by him to sing.
Can somebody throw more light on the profile of this singer.

Best Regards
Hildebrand

Samandar ko Baandhe Aisa Koi Ghaat Nahi, Kadmon ko thaame aisi koi baat nahin Patli si dhaara samundar mein milti hai, milkar ke kho jaati hai, ghaat ghaat hi rehte hain woh samundar ho jaati hai, karlo jo chaaho, banlo jo chaaho

“Geet boodhe nahin hote, unke chehron pe jhurriyan nahi girti
wo palte rahte hain, chalte rahte hain
sun-ne walo ki umra badal jaati hai….”

Thanks HB for posting this funny song of Durrani sahab and Shamshad ji. I really enjoyed the song !

biggrin.gif

G M Durrani was a famous playback singer of the forties. He continued to sing till early fifties. With arrival of the great Rafi sahab whose voice is more perfect than any human voice (IMHO), Durrani (like other playback singers) suffered a great setback. In between there was a story of him trying to tease a famous female playback singer. She stopeed singing with him, thus further reducing the assignments coming his way.

Later its learnt that some one told him that singing for films is against the religion (or something like that) and he totally stopped singing. He started keeping long beard and became more religiously inclined.

This probably led to financial difficulties. Later Mohd Rafi sahab convinced him to sing for films and he did sing a few songs.

I do not know what happened later. The only thing I know is that he sang quite a no of duets (most of them light hearted, funny or romantic) with Geeta ji. There is a special thread dedicated to their songs in Geeta Dutt forum.

Thats 2 cents from my side ! All the information is from HF and net and is subject to correction !

Cheers
Parag

More information from old therads of HF

Info about Durrani

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...&hl=durrani

In his day, G. M. Durrani was a big name. Reportedly his flamboyance proved to be his undoing. Lata-ji's complaint to Naushad-ji and the subsequent decline in GMD's career is too well known to repeat. As i recollect Harish Bhimani recounted an advertising jingle recording session where he heard someone humming in a corner of the room, and telling the man he sang well, only to discover he was none other than the once famous G. M. Durrani!

Thanks Parag. I am happy to know you like the song. I am also mostly aware of just this much information about him. (The bit about him stopping singing due to religious reasons and the jingle bit. is new to me though. I remember hearing long back rafi also had similar thoughts when he went to haj. so his telling durrani seems odd. Don't know whats the truth).
I really love some of his songs with geetaji like Lucknow chalo oh rani. (he has some good duets with noorjehan in mirza saheban etc also).
I was thinking if someone can throw more light on his career than what I saw on Geeta Dutt forum.

I also found this interesting interview telling about his film singing experience in the 1930s : www.downmelodylane.com/article_singer_durrani.html

Is he still alive?
