Tangewali (1955)
Inspite of a spate of string of failures that haunted him in his early career, Shammiji found work and kept on making movie after movie. This is another 1955-er that also was not a financial success. This movie however has some beautiful songs tuned by that unforgettable maestro who composed so many everlasting songs, Salil Chowdhury. There are 10 songs in this movie. I am uploading seven of them. I am missing still three of them. These are shown in red italics in the table below. I am appealing the Forum members to share these missing songs if they have them. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |

Shama Parwana (1954) Here is another album from 1954 starring Shammi. It is amazing that inspite of the string of flops he had five films released in his debut year 1953 followed by another five in 1954. There must have been something that these producers saw in him and hoped for a big success. Also, there is that Kapoor myth with Shammi's father and older brother already highly respected figures in the industry. Whatever it is, I am glad Shammi kept going because his best was just ahead for him that would last many many years. In this album there are 12 beautiful songs with Suraiya, the leading lady of this movie, dominating with several sweet songs. I also have two extended versions that were ripped from a DVD. Most songs came from a CD but others came from different sources. Therefore quality of the songs is not quite uniform. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Is this "Nadan Ankhiyan Lagi" duet (Rafi-female) really from Film:Shama Parwana(1955)--MD:HB? Some chroniclers list only 3 Rafi duets in Shama Parwana. Those are: 1.Sham-e-Bahar Aayi 2.Beqarar Hai Koyi 3. Sar-e-Mehfil Jo Jala Can anyone authoritatively confirm? ![]() Venkat I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

This "Nadan Ankhiyan Laagi" song is from Shama Parwana(1954) sung by Rafi Saab, Asha Ji and Suraiya Ji. Hum Sab Chor Hain (1956)
Finally, Shammi broke through the drought of string of commercial failures with this moderately successful "Hum Sab Chor Hain" film. This was made by Filmistan. Most of their movies were out and out entertainers with some beautiful songs. This movie was no exception. They tapped OP to provide the music. The had young I.S. Johar to direct the movie. Joharji was hot on the heels of the success of his another Filmistan movie "Nagin" for which he wrote the story, screenplay, acted, and directed it. Same with this movie. He wrote the story, wrote its screenplay, acted in the movie, and directed it. Before coming into the movies, Joharji, a psotgraduate, established himself as a writer with several stories to his credit. Another winner in this movie was its heroine, Nalini Jayawant. This petite lady, gives one impression that she is a bundle of energy. She has a child like face, and brings best when acts as an innocent person. Her most famous movie with Dev Anand, "Kala Pani" was few years away, but here she finds in a groove and fits perfectly for Johar's comic talents. Naliniji started as a child actress. Originally she was signed for her singing abilities but soon found herself acting. She got her major breakthrough in Mehboob Khan's "Bahen", a very thought provoking film (incest theme) even by today's standards. In a poll conducted by Filmfare, during mid 50-s, movie cameramen voted Nalini Jayawant to be the most photogenic actress. There are eight songs in this album. Two of the songs, "Humko Hanste" are almost identical. Therefore, I am uploading only seven of them here. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |

Memsahib (1956)
Here is another Shammi's movie for which there is some great music. This time it is that peerless master, Madan Mohanji. This album by Madan Saab is unusual in the sense that all female songs were sung by Ashaji. Not even a single song by Lataji, his favorite. I am also uploading a second version of the song "Kehta Hai Dil". In this second version, this duet by Ashaji and Talat Saab, Shammi reminisces those days when this song was recorded. But the song is the same as the regular one. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ... Attached image(s) ![]() ![]() |
