By the way, I feel the same way about Yesudas. I saw him in a concert once. His humility belies his talent rich career. If you are into his type of music, you are simply in awe. In one of the concerts Balasubrahmanyam (Balu) gave, he referred to Yesudas as his guru. That says something about both of them.

Thanks for pointing out the error. I have corrected it now. You don't need to be sorry to point out something like this.

Cheers,
SP
[/qpotentialuote]

Well 'Yesudas' is simply divine....
Whenever I listen to his rendering of 'Mata Saraswati Sharada...' from Aalaap - I just cannot stop crying....
Even Lata Mangeshkar could not match him in her version of the song - but sadly the entire film world except, for Malayalam Film Industry have not tapped his talent.

The latent problem with Bollywood is that they don’t seem to give importance to 'Bhava' aspect of singing as much as they give importance to all sorts of other technicalities of singing...
Most probably it is due to influence of Hindustani Sangeet on Bollywood that stalwarts of Karnatak Sangeet like Vani Jayram & Yesudas get neglected in Bollywood.

But I don’t have any complaints - as being a south Indian I can still enjoy Vani Jayram & Yesudas singing in Kannada / Tamil & Malayalam... smile.gif

This probably explains why singers like Geeta ji, Hemantda did not get as much success. Both of them always sang with great feelings and great expressions catching the mood of the songs. Yet, the preference of the MDs were other singers with superior technicalities of singing!

You've nailed on the problem by isolating it to "Bhava". It is worth pondering about. Thanks for some illuminating thoughts.

Yeh Raat Phir Na Aaygi (1966)

Here is one of the finest creations of O.P. Nayyar. Every song in this album is a beauty. All four solos by Asha ji reverberate with such ardent fervor and melody that they stick with you for ever. OP knew how to bring out the best in Asha ji. Asha ji knew how to give the best to OP's music. This chemistry between the two was evident in all the songs of this movie.

Sharmila, who plays the mysterious woman on whom the hero is passionately in love with, did a superb acting job. Her peformance adds so much depth and eeriness to the haunting songs of Asha ji.

More than anything else, the lyrics of this movie are a standout. S.H. Bihari didn't write songs for too many movies. His first major breakthrough came with that memorable song "Na Ye Chaand Hoga" sung beautifully but separately by Geeta ji as well as Hemant da. Not until many years later Bihari became a regular with OP. (I am including his picture below; he is in the mddle). This association produced some beautiful music.

This was the first time Mahendra Kapoor sang for OP. Nayyar Saab. He was so impressed with Mahendra that he utilized Mahendra's talents in many of his future movies.

All songs I am uploading are from a CD. The extended version is by the courtesy of the Forum members. Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Musafir Khana (1955)

Here is an early album of OP. Geeta ji sang a couple of songs in this movie; a duet and and a solo. As usually the case with Geeta ji, she is in her own element here, especially with the solo.

I am uploading eight songs here. These came from various sources; CD collections, from the Forum member contributions, and DVD. Because of this the quality of the songs is not uniform.

According to Earthmusic network, a couple of songs are missing from this album. These are shown in red italics in the table below. Now for a description of the songs and the songs themselves ...
