Both Gaman and Bazaar had some very nice songs...
I always identify with "Seene mein jalan" from Gaman... from my time as a poor struggling young person at Mumbai... "is sheher main har shaksh pareshaan sa kyon hain". Love Bazaar's - Dikhayi diye yun ke bekhud kiya apart from phir chhidi raat. There was also a very sad one, I thought I had it... but can't find it... ah yes... dekh lo aaj hamko ji bhar ke. Those were the years of the art movies, such hard hitting realistic ones. There seems to be some logic to what was discussed earlier re preference for sad/ happy songs... in my younger days I preferred serious, realistic movies... now I want the happy, lighter ones. There was another movie... Phir Bhi... I could never find "Kyon Pyala Chhalakta Hai"... well anywyas, I have digressed... put it down to reminiscing! I only discovered Chhaya Ganguli's version of the song after searching for the lyrics which I knew had been changed in the recent Pakistani version done by Ahmed Jahanzeb in his album Parastish.
You can listen to his version of Aap Ki Yaad here at Muziq.net Here the lyrics at urdupoetry.com zindagi ne kar diya, jab bhi udaas aa gaye ghabra ke hum, manzil ke paas sar jhukaaya, sar jhuka kar ro diye |

Did you mean this one? Check the attachment. Who is the singer? I am so ignorant. Aaj, Saath Saath and Arth have very nice ghazals too. I love some of them so much. Will upload the ones I have. |

Chitra, well brought up this question of the singer of "Dekh lo aaj humko..". I remember my mom used to talk about her quite often how the singer of this song who happens to be a relatively unknown one called "Jagjit Kaur" had the voice to express melancholy required in such songs. She also has sung "Kaahe ko biyahe bidesh.." in Umrao Jaan and tum apna ranjo gham.. BTW, khaayam saaheb's music in Bazar is heavenly -- listen to Talat Aziz in "phir chidi baat raat phoolon". Let me know if anyone wants me to upload these since I suppose these are quite popular tracks and ppl may already have them. But here is a live version of Talat Aziz's "Phir chiddi baat raat phoolon kee" - very simple but beautiful lyrics. reminds me of flowers on a silvery night soothing the grated souls of lovers.

Chitz,
Thanks for "Dekh Lo". I have one more from Bazaar - karoge yaad to har baat yaad aayegi by Bhupinder, did you want it? If I remember right the movie starred Supriya Pathak, Farooq Shaikh, Smita Patil & Naseeruddin Shah. I could be confused about the last 2, they were in all arty movie those days Naseeruddin Shah was so good in Manthan (and relatively new to kids who weren't very familiar with movies), my cousin thought he was a villager for real!! I had mentioned Phir Bhi - that had some less popular stars - maybe Bambi and Pratap sharma (I can't believe I remember all this, hence I might be totally off base too!) - anyways, what I wanted to say was... songs of Phir Bhi were penned by Dr. Harivanshrai Bachchan (so says the net), no wonder they made an impression! Oh my god where was I when so many discussions where going on about ghazals and hindi movies..... well most of it has been already discussed let me share few thoughts.
I think even before Arth or Saath Saath or Bazaar , there was trend to include one or two ghazal in the movie mostly in background or to show the phase of judai or sadness till the movie comes back to the climax of happy ending , etc.... And in that context Bhupinder almost RULED this part.... he was always called in for this kind of ghazals and I believe he was always at his best..... Even today many MD likes to put one or two ghazal for example in recent movies like Sarfarosh.... "hosh walo ko...." ya fir "Koi fariyaad" from Tum bin... Like for example in Thodi Si Bewafai... "Aaj bichde hai, kaal ka darr nahi" ya fir "Kabhi kisi ko mukamaal jahan nahi milta".... ya in the movie Kinara... "Naam gum jayega"...... I think in all the RD movies he use to take Bhupinder for his ghazals needs, etc... Also when talking of Arth and Saath Saath and the rare Phir Bhi ( I am sorry Talaikya ji , even me looking for that since long time...if I find that will sure share with you here)... few other names I can think of is Movie SITARA.... two of my fav from this movie... Saath Saath tum chalo... and Thodi is zameen....another Movie Premt Geet... Dekh lo humko awaz dekar , hoothon se chu lo tum, ao mile jaye hum suman aur sugandh ki tarah.....Movie Lekin Surmaaye Shaam.. from Dhoop ..by hariharan and Shreya .... Subah ki Dhoop... and many mores The way is not in the sky, the way is in the heart. --Gautama Buddha
