My favourite is ...Khayalon mein kisi ki..Bhawre Nain...
The at once playful and seductive voice of Geeta Ji is absolutely mesmerizing in this song. So much Oomph..in this song, none can replicate this timeless beauty. Tough choice.. smile.gif

After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Dear Shri Parag Babu,

The absolutely best duet of Geeta Dutt is with Talat Mahmood. It is from the film Dr. Z. Music is by Manohar. The words are:

Hum Ne Tumhare Pyar Mein Dil Ka Chaman Luta Diya.

Also her duet with Hemant Kumar in Detective is outstanding compared to all those mentioned by you.

Dear Subhash

I think you are talking about this duet with Talat sab "Dil ko lagake bhool ki".

Is that correct ?

Ah! Yes, I am talking about it only. Then there is another duet from, I think, from Ratnadeep, which is really very good and a difficult one to sing. In my opinion, the duets listed by you are 'run of the mill' compositions, no doubt made very lively by Geeta Dutt and her co-singers.

Gora Rang Chunariya Kaali, Motiyanwaali Ke Dil Mera, Oy Hoy, Ke Dil Mera Loot Liya
Teri Pagri Rang Birangi Lagi Mainu Changi Ke Dil Mera Loot Liya (from Howrah Bridge)

reason: Punjabi flavor and Rafi sahab as co-singer, carefree, light-hearted song

Another lighthearted and fun song is Lalten's O Lilly Lilly Lilly (Tu Tham Jaa Mere Aage) (Main Johnny Se Milne Chali Hai Dilli) - duet with S Balbir

BTW welcome back Parag, Geeta ke forum mein phir se jaan aagayi. Hope you are enjoying this part of the world.

Doston, Apna Tau Yeh Imaan Hai
Jo Bhi Jitna Saath De, Ehsaan Hai
Umr Ka Rishta Jodne Waale
Apni Nazar Mein Deewane Hai

Thanks for the memories HF. Bye Bye.

Hi Deewani
Thanks for your kind words. I am just an humble fan of Geeta ji, trying to pay my tribute to her

BTW, the duet from Howrah Bridge is Rafi-Asha. The only song Geeta ji sang in this movie was ever popular "Mera naam chin choo", her last song for O P Nayyar.

No wonder I love it, lol. tongue1.gif Apologies my tags were incorrect. Well she should have done it then. All the classics in your list are great, for some reason I was always drawn to her melancholy songs, so I love to hear her in more "fun" duets like De Bhi Chuke Hum Dil Nazrana, etc.

There are many songs in the fifties where Asha ji sounds a lot like Geeta ji. Another one where ppl get confused is Achcha ji main hari chalo.

My favourite Geeta Dutt duet is "Dil Se dil takraye phir dono ghabraye" the title song of Love Marriage (1956). The song is lovely and full of energy.

Samandar ko Baandhe Aisa Koi Ghaat Nahi, Kadmon ko thaame aisi koi baat nahin Patli si dhaara samundar mein milti hai, milkar ke kho jaati hai, ghaat ghaat hi rehte hain woh samundar ho jaati hai, karlo jo chaaho, banlo jo chaaho

“Geet boodhe nahin hote, unke chehron pe jhurriyan nahi girti
wo palte rahte hain, chalte rahte hain
sun-ne walo ki umra badal jaati hai….”
