QUOTE(priya @ Aug 13 2005, 04:18 PM) Thanks. That was quick. This song sounds so familiar. But I do not see it on my lists or my HDD. Is there a Marathi song like this? Or another Hindi one? Or maybe I am just going bonkers due to an overdose of music. Asha-ji's "GRAHASTI" song "Jeevan Jyot Jaley" tuned by Ravi bears resemblance to "Kuhu Kuhu Boley Koyaliya", the Rafi/Lata duet from "SUVARNA SUNDARI". According to classical music experts, both are based on Raag Sohoni, though the latter song shifts to other ragas. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Or maybe I am just going bonkers due to an overdose of music. Jeevan Jyot Jale is also quite similar to the Bade Ghulam Ali Khan number in Mughal-e-azam: Prem Jogan Ban Ke. They are probably all from the same raga which might have inspired other songs too (like Kuhu Kuhu). Could that be why it sounded familiar? |

Bade Ghulam Ali Khan's "Prem Jogan Ban Ke" in "Mughal-E-Azam" was also based on the same raag, Sohoni. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Unni bhai I had posted my comments on this song earlier in rafi forum
This is what my south indian friends had to say...The original was "Thesulavuthe ...." sung by Ghantasala and P.Susheela from the movie "MaNalane Mangayin baaggiyam" (composed by Adi Narayan Rao).. Boy, it has four stanzas, all with different tunes and great singing by the two. The Hindi remake "Kuhoo Kuhoo Bole koyaliya" by Rafi and Lata paled in comparison. When it comes to PURE Hindustani songs with a lot of those taans and "rolling", Ghantasala is head and shoulders above any Indian Film Music singer. The Telugu version of "Shiva Shankari" is a great example. He showed a strong leaning towards Hindustani Raags. One of my pals said that Ustaad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan used to stay at his house during his visits to Madras. I am told that the song is mixture of so many raags... jaunpuri, sohni, bahaar and yaman The song I have is of 6.26 minutes length...I donot know whether Mohsin has uploaded full version in Lataji's forum . We have to find out the original and compare them. When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others

Mahesh:
I think it was Bibhas who had earlier provided us the original: If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
