Time to update this thread. The next video is from Intezar(1956), a beautiful Khursheed Anwar composition, an imperious Noor Jehan rendition portraying fervid pain of separation....................

Song: Chand Hansey Duniya Basay, Roye Mera Pyaar Dard Bhare Dil Ke Mere Toot Gaye Taar
Film: Intezar(1956)

And here is a staggeringly idealized, somewhat nostalgic and yet interesting review of Intezar(1956)'s soundtrack by a die hard Noor Jehan and Khursheed Anwar fan named Anwar Mahmood............

" Intezar is perhaps the grandest work of song ever created.The only other musical can come close to it is Dopatta that has also Noor Jehan's voice. This musical Intezar was even instrumental to penetrate into south Asian politics and nurtured political impact that neither politicians nor military on each side of the border has accomplished so far in the cause of peace. Back in 1957, Pakistan's president Iskander Mirza had invited India's Prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru to watch with him the movie "Intezar' on the sidelines of the commonwealth conference in London I.Nehru's comments after watching Intezar were that never before a voice so sweet and grand had entered his ears as Noor Jehan's in Intezar. Nehru came back to India and the ban was broken on importing Pakistani movies and Intezar was played on Indian cinemas. Not just that, borders were opened for people to visit the neighbouring countries. My father went to see some of his friends of pre partition days in India. On his return, he brought the Indian newspaper Riyasat that had a whole page publicity on Intezar being played in cinema halls of Delhi and in bold writings,it said;

"Woh geet jo aaj tak aap ne nahin sunay, Woh naghme jo Noor Jehan ne aaj tak nahin gaey".

So Intazar had initiated the most power peace diplomacy ever that culminated into the only peace impasse in south Asia so far and that was the signing of Indus water treaty between the two countries. Even Kashmir solution had moved forward with Nehru's offer of complete and through autonomy or self governance for Kashmir, a solution very similar to what Musharaaf has proposed now to India. But Nehru, unfortunately died soon after and this offer could not be implemented. Intezar's each song is an institution in itself. No singer in south Asia could, ever in the past and far beyond for ever in future, emulate this grandest work of song the world has ever known. Not even Nat King Cole's best ever in english language, " Mona Lisa" that is the only song in American history to win 1950 academy award by a perfect score of five out of five, could go as much soft and mallow as, "Chand Hanse Dunya Basey", which makes you think that the song is being rendered by some broken heart in paradise. Only two years ago, Lata's younger sister Aasha came to perform in our city in Canada and she started her program by copy throat rendering of what Noor Jehan did in the song "Aa bi Jah" and she declared her sentimental love for this song by Noor Jehan in Intezar even when the song is almost fifty years old.

If you put Noor Jehan's voice along with other great voices of south Asia in computer for voice analysis, i am sure the computer will read," Noor Jehan is the only voice that can really sing" as it did about Nat King Cole about fifteen years ago when they fed his voice along with Elvis, Michael Jackson and all other great singers of the western world. Computer had a blunt conclusion that only Nat King Cole could really sing. We are sure that same applies to Noor Jehan with Intezar outstanding as masterpiece to be envied by all vocalists of past, present and future. And what about that echoed song,"Aa Gaey" that has incomparable pitch, flow, manipulation, range and depth of voice. Who else will ever sing like that again. And again an other soft and mallow rendering of voice in the song," Jis din se pia dil le gaey" can leave a touch of Noor Jehan's medicinal like curing voice on heart. And who else would dramatize south Asia's romantic season of Barsaat by the masterly song," Ganghor gata o savan ki", with lyrics as such:

" O savan ki, ganghor gata o savan ki Taras Gaey mere nain pia bin baras baras mat mujeh rula o savan ki", which can be nicely done to lyricized translation into english language like:

"O thick wet laden clouds Of the rainy season sky My eyes long for my lover Please pour down, don't make me cry"

And the song," Chand hanse, dunya base" can massage your heart as stress relieving work of song that has the most powerful combination of that valvet soft and satin smooth voice of Noor Jehan with ever powerful orchestra and masterly music of Khawja Khurshid Anwar. And "The dancer has to dance" on the song, " Chun chun naachoon gi" as America's all time best Nat King Cole had lyricised in one of his great songs during the same days Intezar had taken every body by storm. You also have a masterly touch of the western song in,"AAnkh se aankh mila le" as aasha and her dance troupe perform to enthrall us and leave uneffaceable memories live with us far beyond for ever. President Iskander Mirza had given copies of Intezar movies to Shah of Iran and the President of Turkey as well. I remember from my school days that the air of Pakistan used to be very thick and very sweet with songs of Intezar, and i have had never felt that ever since in any country of the world. We are lucky that we lived through those days.

The way the song"Monalisa"by America's all time best singer Nat King Cole won academy award for 1950 with a perfect score of five out of five and is widely exclaimed as the finest song ever recorded in english language, the same way Intezar won president award in 1957 in Pakistan by perfect score of all out of all.
The incomparable voice of the melody queen Noor Jehan and the masterly music of the perfectionist music director Khurshid Anwar, who really was the sub continent's top most academic man turned musician and gave rare flavour of psychology, philosophy, sentimental touch and all types of moods and modes in his super genius compositions. Intezar's songs are conducted with the richest orcestra you can ever dream of. Intezar's songs are therefore culmination of a perfectionist work of music and voice to rival what Mona Lisa song is to the english world or even the western world. I remember one evening in 1958, when Azad Kashmir radio had farmaish program of eight songs and these songs were all eight songs of Intezar and nothing else.

I must commend this grandest musical of all time with a song by America's best ever voice of Nat King Cole with slight changes in lyrics to accomodate Noor Jehan and Khawja Khurshid Anwar and goes as such:

Wandering rainbows,leave a bit of colour For my heart to own Stars in the sky, make my wish come true Before the night is flown And let Khurshid Anwar's music play With Noor Jehan to sing In Intezar, that makes me stay Younger than spring

This year will be the 50th anniversary of this grandest musical of all time and all these years we have had sentimental love for each and every song of Intezar. Last week, we gathered together in Canada for dinner as old timers recalling and calling ourselves as men and women of Intezar generation. Through loving swings of time and memory, we traversed back to those uneffaceable memories of the past, when the world was tenderly young and the air of Pakistan had been kissed thick and sweet by sweeter than honey songs of Intezar. May be it was for the composition of those incomparable songs that the number one genius of south Asia named Khawja Khurshid Anwar had to abdicate and reject the most prestigious job offer in Indian civil service after his best ever score of topping in seven out of eight papers in the ICS exam in the most competitive civil service of the pre partition India. May be Nur Jehan also left India as matchless icon there, so that she could sing her talents in Intezar, which will stay as the grandest work of song far beyond for ever. No wonder India's best vocalist Lata Mangeshker could not resist speaking in 1971 about her sentimental love for songs of Intezar. Lata's sister Aasha and even India's prime minister Nehru called these songs as the sweetest ever heard. Nur Jehan is not amongst us now, but her voice prevails, obssesses and haunts the memories more than any voice the world has ever known with a simple ode as such: "you're greatest vocalist ever known Nur Jehan, it's you alone More than cheerful words can say You will be grand and more each day" Nurtured and extolled, with those sweet sweet songs of Intezar, were some loverly flower face beauties that sang and danced on the songs like,"Aa gaey, ghar aa gaey, balam pardesi, sajan pardesi" and "Chun chun nachoon gi, gun gun gaoon gi, Sayan morey aaen gay un ko rachaoon gi" and "Ganghor gata o savan ki, taras gaey merey nain pia bin, baras baras mat mujeh rula o savan ki". The playing of sitar instrument has been given more sentimental rendering by deep philosophical masterliness by Khursid Anwar in the song,"Ghanghor ghata O savan ki" than even sitar master Ravi Shankar ever did it in his life. And amongst those loverli Persiana looking flower face beauties, the one was a fair skinned mountain heart throb transplanted in Punjab from the mountains of Pakistan. Adopted by a doctor, she entertained and enthralled our boyhood community with her generously rendered singing and dancercising of those sweet songs of Intezar. Intezar gave me the sense of spotting the first beauty in life at the tender age from where it leads to the most desired instinct of man to discover more and more of pretty faces as the life streams along on its course of discovering romantic discoveries to make our life worthwhile.Intezar, at least to me, gave the sweet taste of the looks of the first ever beauty that i happened to identify with sense and touch of that face on heart as she sang and dancercised on those grandest songs of Intezar. I believe every man has that first time ever feel and sense of that first beauty that happens to appear and disappear as well with haunting memories of recognition and missing from the age teens to the time far beyond for ever. The women afterwords are just the follow ups with variegated grips on your heart. Intezar means a lot to me and to innumerable more. Let me summarize all this with lyrics from one song by my favourite American singer Nat King Cole, who goes as such: " My mind won't free you. My heart won't try." HAPPY FIFTYth BIRTHDAY TO INTEZAR WITH LONGING AND HAUNTING MEMORIES OF NOOR JEHAN, KHURSHID ANWAR, SANTOSH KUMAR- Intezar's hero, AASHA-iNTEZAR'S side heroin ,MY INTEZAR GENERATION FRIENDS AND THE SINGING AND DANCERCISING TEEN BEAUTY NAMED TANVEER(LIGHT), WHO WAS ADOPTED BY OUR COMMUNITY DOCTOR TO LET HER PERFORM FREELY AND GENEROUSLY THOSE UNFORGETABLE SONGS OF INTEZAR FOR US SO WE COULD BE TAKEN TO PARADISE BY THAT HOORI WITH HER ACQUILINE DEAR LIKE( CHASHME AAHOO)EYES, HER ALABASTER WHITE SKIN, HER FLEXAMATIC DANCING FIGURE, HER SWEET VOICE OF COPYING NUR JEHAN AND HER VERY REGULAR LOOKING FLOWER FACE OF PERSIAN LOOKS. Inaam, I got this review from the internet biggrin.gif . I found it really interesting though somewhat idealized as I said, but music is all about vehement passions isn't it. By the way, the other day I learnt that following the screening of Indian films- Taj Mahal and Mughal-e-Azam in Pakistan, Pakistan has decided to return the gesture with alacrity filling chasms biggrin.gif .
However, the most obtrusive part of this plan is the choice of films. Indian audiences, it is reported will be fed on biggest Pakistani blockbuster....guess what wacko.gif ????? wub.gif ???? HASEENA ATOM BOMB headbang.gif
I wonder why Pakistani government has not chosen to release some of its classics like Intezar. Even though 50 years old, they are any day a million times better choice than Explosive Beauty hairpull.gif I wonder what imago would Indian audiences have of Pakistani society post Haseena Atom Bomb.....

I believe, due to the low infrastructure of the Pakistani film industry, there are only a few good films on its credit… lekin phir bhi… they can send ‘Waada’, Zehr-e-Ishq’, ‘Lakhon mein aik’, ‘Chingari’, ‘Shaheed’, ‘Koel’, ‘Bandish’, ‘Tehzeeb’, ‘Bahisht’, ‘Umrao Jan ada’ and some more pre 70s movies. closedeyes.gif
