Mamta Ki Chhaon Mein
1989 Music - Kishore Kumar Starring : Amit Kumar, Leena Ganguly, Raj Babbar & Rajesh Khanna Just as the critics were about to write off Kishore as a versatile artist - here comes the genius with a mighty slap on their faces : Total 9 songs in the film. 1) Mera Geet Adhura Hai (KK) - 3.27 This solo is the remake of Lata-Kishore duet from his unreleased movie of the mid-60's ( Suhaana Geet ). Also Kishore sang a bengali version. But this Hindi song has a very special place in my heart. Again the playback singing of Kishore is evident in this song, full of life. The typical "OPN-Tonga" music throughout the song, is so sweet to hear ( Rajesh Khanna is driving a tonga here ). One of the top 10 songs in the decade of 80's IMO. Shailendra ke kya kehne !!! simple words but real deep meaning ! 2) Teri Jeevan Gaadi Yoonhi Chalti (KK) - 6.53 Only one song can compete this one in Hindi films - Ohre Taal Mile Nadi Ke Jal Mein. Similar setting. Sanjeevkumar & Amit Kumar sitting in the bullock carts. In this one the song starts with the ghungroo sound of the bullocks....and simple tune and music takes one far off to the beautiful greenery, hills, valleys, rivers and at the same time teaches one how to lead a life !! Full marks to Hasrat Jaipuri for the wonderful lyrics.Again in my top 10 songs of the decade. 3) Main Ek Panchhi Matwaala Re (AK) - 4.13 Finally the song finds place in the film ( earlier version - Amit Kumars first song - was chopped off from the film DOOR KA RAAHI ). AK's very raw voice is lovely to hear. Kishore's lyrics once again prove that there is no limits to this bunch of talent !! the phenomenon Kishore Kumar !! Overall a wonderful lively number. 4) Toad Ke Bandhan Saare (AK) - 7.08 What can I say about this song ???? One of the best classical compositions and rendition in Hindi Cinema ! The song is depicted as a musical competition on stage...2 singers on the screen sing one line each ( jhalaks shown ). One of them is Jolly Mukherji. He sings a folk tune based song. Could not make out a few words...a devotional song on Lord Krishna. Cant remember the second one ( may be Bhushan ? ) - singing a LOVELY ghazal "Kisi Ne Phir Na Suna Dard Ke Fasaane Ko". Then enters AK in the song ( as well as the screen ). He gives a small introduction on stage - tells the audience the full form of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni - talks very confidently and with an innocent feel - and dedicating the song to his "mother", starts off to sing for the competition....as soon as he starts the song - one just forgets the surrounding...gets immersed into the music and the classical notes that AK touches with ease...the voice is very raw and not seen in common AK songs. What can I say about the immense talent this man "Kishore Kumar" has !!! THe song has Kishore written all over...the way AK starts the song, the way he sings the word "Toad" .....After mesmerizing the listeners with his classical song "Bhaalobaashaar Aagun Jwele" ( sung by Lata ) - after a decade gives this even more difficult song to AK, to sing. And AK comes out with flying colours. Superb murkis and taans. Ask any top 10 male singers of today to sing this one and I am sure to see their pants get wet ( IMHO ). Very inspiring lyrics by Anjaan. One has to listen to this beauty to believe it. 5) Beeti Jaaye Jaaye Zindagaani (AK) - 3.18 What a fantastic song !!! Reminds me of the antara of the song "Ge Geli Zara Timbuktoo" it literaly makes one dance on the feet ( shedding all inhibitions ) - the tune is so fast and foot tapping....very fresh....AK's singing is marvellous....a very raw voice. We can see a few music pieces ( a flute or string instruments ) from the songs of "Door Ka Raahi" in this song....very cleverly mixed by Kishore....One can immediately imagine a very innocent boy in his late teens - singing this lovely number. Kishore's lyrics show the young man at heart !!! Overall a lively song to cherish for life ! 6) Na Re Na Mujhse Door Na Jaana (Leena) - 3.56 The song opens with a lovely humming by Leena - and one is mistaken if this is really a voice of Leena !! she seems like a seasoned singer !!. Kishore has extracted the very best from her in this song. A perfect song by a mother to her son....One of the best lullabys created ever....very few orchestration ( so very Kishore ! ) makes it more enjoyable. Very difficult to find such lovely songs in the 80's. Again a good job (lyrics) done by Anjaan. 7) O Ma...Andhiyaari Raahon Mein ( Leena) - 3.50 Fabulous rendition by Leena. Indeed a very talented singer. This song gives a feel of the various songs of HFM like "Humko Man Ki Shakti De", or the various immortal bhajans. The lyrics are so very profound ( wrongly credited to Anjaan by the music company - actually written by Kishore ). The mukhada, as I said is a typical HFM one - but the antara is where Kishore comes in the picture - typical Kishorish rythm and tune - especially as soon as each antaras start. Overall a wonderful song. 8) O Ma...Andhiyaari Raahon Mein (AK) - 3.55 The Amit Kumar version song starts with a breathtaking high pitched alaap. THe pathos in this song makes one's heart bleed to no limits. The love for his mother is evident in this song as well as the complete movie ( the full movie is based on the theme "mamta" - a wonderful movie with values and innocence ! ) I am not sure if there is one more version of this song where Leena is also singing along with AK. 9) Kaise Katengi Ratiyaan ( Bhushan, Jolly, Sunil, Pankaj ) - 2.48 A beautiful North indian folk-tune based song....full of energy. sung by these talented singers....ideal song for a engagement or a the night before marriages, where both the families gather around for singing and dancing. Again Anjaan wrote lovely lyrics to this dhamaka number. And then one finds a lovely clip at the beginning of the film - probably from a private recording - a 50 seconds of magic by Kishore ( remember Srijit !!!! ) humming a few lines - I dont know if the words were written by Kishore - they go something like this : "Le Chal Mujhe Bulaawa dekar mere naavki dheere dheere" - I dont know if this was a song sung by some other singer before. I have the songs in MP3 but then they are not in good quality ( though song no 1 & 2 are in really good quality. But not the rest. The cassette which I have are of good quality - but cant convert now )...anybody wanting - write to me offline. I hope T Series comes up with an Audio CD version of this movie. KCP Regards
