(Shailendra) Chhote Nawab (1961)
This was comedian actor Mahmood’s first maiden production. Many of his family members were involved with this project. His father Mumtaz Ali wrote its story. His brother Usman Ali produced it. His son Lucky Ali appeared as a child Chhote Nawab in a flashback scene. His sister Minoo Mumtaz appeared in a supporting role in the film. However in this film, Mahmood did not appear as a comedian. But as a regular Bombay film world type hero. With an uneven storyline and abrupt behavioral changes to the main character the film enjoyed only a limited success. But what lifted the film above the ordinary was its beautiful music. R.D. Burman (see his picture below) made a stunning debut as its music director. His first film would have been Guru Dutt’s 1959 film “Raaz”. It had lyrics by Shailendra and RD set music to three songs. But when Guru abruptly shelved the project, RD’s work never saw public light. Not until “Chhote Nawab” came along. Mahmood was making plans to make “Chhote Nawab”. He approached S.D. Burman to compose music for his film. But Burmanda declined saying he was already busy with various projects. However, at Burmanda’s residence he met RD, who was playing Tabla. He immediately signed him up for his film as its music director. Later when someone asked Mahmood why he has chosen an unknown entity like RD to compose music. His response was that he was tired of RD constantly denting his car with never ending constant drum beats! The first song RD recorded for “Chhote Nawab” was “Ghar Aa Jaa”. This was originally written for “Raaz”. This classic song sung by Lataji became an instant hit. From 1957 through 1961 SD, RD’s father, and Lata did not work together. The differences developed when Lata did not show up for one of her recording sessions with Burmanda. But SD immediately called Lataji to sing for his son’s debut film. Lataji without hesitation agreed and the differences between the two music giants Burmanda and Lataji evaporated instantly. The soundtrack for the film offers variety of songs with a mixture of influences of eastern and western music. There are several good songs in the film. My favorites include the two solos by Lataji, “Chura Ke Dil” and “Ghar Aa Jaa” and Rafi Saab’s soul stirring “Ilaahi Tu Sunn Le”. I am uploading a brief second part of the song that also is in the first part. The second part singing may be of a little slower pace. I am not sure. Incidentally, the assistant music directors of the film were Laxmikant & Pyarelal. Laxmikant was thinking of taking RD as his partner to become as an independent music director but when he received a call from RD to assist him he gladly agreed. I am upload songs, specials, version songs, and a few instrumentals in four back-to-back posts. The first two posts contain all songs and some music clips from the film. The third post contains a few version songs and a couple of specials. The fourth and the final post contains a few instrumentals. Here are songs from the film starting in the next post… Attached image(s) |

(Hasrat Jaipuri) Krorepati (1961)
This movie that was supposed to be a comedy but it is really not that funny. It had screenplay by I.S. Johar. Johar also co-wrote its dialogues. The effort by Shankar & Jaikishan, who were flying high during these years, was below mark except for a couple of songs. Interestingly S&J decide to use Manna for playback of Kishoreda in a couple of songs. The song “Pehle Murghi” is one of them. Manna did a fair job with the song, but this one is a typical Kishoreda’s song. If he sang the song it would have been a blast. Mannada also lends his voice for Kishoreda in the duet “Aap Huye”. The song of the album is Asha’s “Saawan Bann Gaye”. A beautifully rendered lovely song. The song is supposed to have the following mukhda that was missing in the DVD as well as the CD. The mukhda goes like this… “Aye Aasmaan Ke Raahi Tu Hi Gawaah Rehna, If anyone of you have this song with the above beginning, please kindly share it with rest of us. Thank you. The other song is Lata’s solo, “O Saajna”. This seems to be inspired by some western tune. Nevertheless it is pleasant to listen to. Here are these and other songs from this film… Attached image(s) Attached File(s) Aap_Huye_Mera_Balam.rar ( 3.87 MB ) Number of hits: 3 by members Dekhne_Waalo_Thaam_Lo_Dil_Ko.rar ( 7.24 MB ) Number of hits: 8 by members Kaabul_Ki_Main_Naar.rar ( 3.76 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members O_Ladke_Badhte_Badhte_Tum_Toh.rar ( 4.86 MB ) Number of hits: 4 by members O_Meri_Maina.rar ( 5.26 MB ) Number of hits: 8 by members O_Saajna_Na_Poochh_Mujh_Se.rar ( 4.1 MB ) Number of hits: 4 by members Pehle_Murghi_Hui_Thi_Ke_Anda.rar ( 4.62 MB ) Number of hits: 4 by members Saawan_Bann_Gaye_Nain_Piya_Binn.rar ( 4.15 MB ) Number of hits: 4 by members Saiyyaan_Na_Chhedo_Dil_Ke_Taar.rar ( 3.74 MB ) Number of hits: 3 by members Krorepati_Title_Music.rar ( 2.29 MB ) Number of hits: 2 by members |

(Majrooh) Kabli Khan (1963)
The movie is not that great but the songs are. This is one of the films in which dancer Helen appears as a leading lady. There are several good songs in this film. The combination of Chitraguptji and Majrooh Saab click here once again. The fine songs include “Aye Hazrat”, “Chalo Jhoomte”, “Salle Ala”, and “Ya Hala”. I am uploading these and others below… Attached image(s) Attached File(s) Aye_Hazrat_Yeh_Hai_Pehli_Ada.rar ( 5.1 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members Chalo_Jhoomte_Sar_Pe_Baandhe_Kafan.rar ( 6.46 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members Khinche_Khinche_Se_Nazar_Se.rar ( 5.2 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members Nazraana_Lo_Dil_Laayi_Hoon_Sanam.rar ( 5.78 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members Phir_Wohi_Saathi.rar ( 553.52 k ) Number of hits: 6 by members Salle_Ala_Zulf_Kaali_Kaali.rar ( 5.61 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members Ya_Hala_Ya_Habibi.rar ( 4.52 MB ) Number of hits: 6 by members Music_Clip.rar ( 1.61 MB ) Number of hits: 2 by members Kabli_Khan_Title_Music.rar ( 2.23 MB ) Number of hits: 4 by members |

(Rajinder Krishan) College Girl (1960)
Rajinder Krishan wrote the screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for this Shankar & Jaikishan music directed film. Interesting thing about this is that in 1957 S&J decided to not work for B.R. Chopra who offered them to provide music for “Naya Daur”. S&J wanted to retain the services of Hasrat Jaipuri and Shailendra. Chopra insisted on Sahir Ludhianvi as the lyricist. So it is strange that three years later S&J here decided to work with Krishanji. Not until their debut film, “Barsaat” in 1949, S&J worked with no one else except for Jaipuri & Shailendra. Of course this movie is an exception. This thing changed when both Jaikishan and Shailendra passed away. Then Shankar, still under the name of S&J, started utilizing the talents of other lyricists. Not until 1968, Shankar worked again with Krishanji. In 1968, he worked with Rajinderji in “Brahmachari” for one song. In spite of some good songs there is nothing to write home about this mediocre movie. Here are some of the lowlights, yes, lowlights of the movie… • The movie starts with Vyjayanti Mala passing metric in first class! Uff! • Next thing we know that she and Shammi are in the first year of college! • Mala’s friend commits suicide on the marriage altar because she is forced to wed an 80-year old man. The reason given by her father is that he could not afford to give a dowry! • Mala’s uncle, who is her guardian, stops her going from college because she participates in a college dance drama. • Randhir professes that Mala is like his own sister and then tries to sexually assault her. • So on and on… Simply revolting. As mentioned earlier there are a few good songs in the film. These are “Baabul Hum”, “Hum Aur Tum”, and “Pehla Pehla”. Coincidentally “Hum Aur Tum” starts as Rafi Saab’s super hit song “Hum Aur Tum” from the 1959 “Dil Deke Dekho” but soon diverges. Of these the standout song is Lataji’s, “Baabul Hum Tore”. It is an outstanding song with rich lyrics. Here are these and other songs from this film in two back-to-back posts… Attached image(s) Attached File(s) Baabul_Hum_Tore_Angana_Ki_Chidiya.rar ( 7.53 MB ) Number of hits: 7 by members Hum_Aur_Tum_Aur_Yeh_Sama.rar ( 6.12 MB ) Number of hits: 6 by members Hum_Bhi_Karte_Hain_Pyaar.rar ( 6.67 MB ) Number of hits: 6 by members Pehla_Pehla_Pyaar_Ka_Ishaara.rar ( 5.81 MB ) Number of hits: 6 by members Yeh_College_Ka_Zamaana.rar ( 5.58 MB ) Number of hits: 6 by members |

(Anand Bakshi) Aan Milo Sajna (1970)
There are no pretensions about what this film wants to be. It was made to thoroughly entertain the audience sprinkled with good songs. The movie was on the mark with such intentions. The only difference here was that instead of boy chasing the girl it was the other way around. Here the girl more or less was chasing the boy. LP’s music and Bakshi Saab’s lighthearted lyrics enrich the entertainment value for the listeners. All songs became very popular. My favorite is Kishoreda’s “Jawaani O Diwaani”. Thoroughly enjoyable. I am uploading this and other songs from the film, a version song, and a few fine instrumentals in two back-to-back posts. Here are the songs in the first post… Attached image(s) Attached File(s) Ab_Aan_Milo_Sajna_Aan_Milo.rar ( 8.9 MB ) Number of hits: 10 by members Achha_Toh_Hum_Chalte_Hain.rar ( 7.62 MB ) Number of hits: 14 by members Jawaani_O_Diwaani_Tu_Zindabaad.rar ( 7.28 MB ) Number of hits: 13 by members Koi_Nazraana_Le_Kar_Aaya_Hoon.rar ( 7.88 MB ) Number of hits: 9 by members Palat_Meri_Jaan_Tere_Qurbaan.rar ( 6.54 MB ) Number of hits: 4 by members Tere_Kaaran_Tere_Kaaran.rar ( 6.96 MB ) Number of hits: 5 by members Aan_Milo_Sajna_Title_Music.rar ( 3.57 MB ) Number of hits: 2 by members |

Dear Swarapriya thanks for this album.....
There is an interesting fact about this movie. Though there are 4 songs of KK in this movie but he was not credited for these songs... If you see the title page of playback singers section at the beginning of the movie, you won't find KK's name but all others. Even the female singer Radhakishen that u have mentioned is not there in the playback singers' list. Wonder why the music director overlooked/ignored KK? This would have been rectified by producer or director or actors later stage....but none noticed this error. Soumik (Hasrat Jaipuri) Krorepati (1961) This movie that was supposed to be a comedy but it is really not that funny. It had screenplay by I.S. Johar. Johar also co-wrote its dialogues. Dear Swarapriya,
I am uploading the song "Jalti Hain Duniya (part - 2)" from Pyar (1950) which is having better sound quality than yours. I hope you will like it. Regards Soumik (Rajinder Krishan) Pyaar (1950) I am re-uploading these songs of early Nargis & Raj Kapoor film on request... For this Raj Kapoor’s film not only Burmanda composed music but had Kishoreda sing songs for Raj. Remember this was back in 1950. Raj did not yet settle on Mukesh as his voice. That was still a few years away. My apologies for the poor quality of the songs even though some of them are decent enough. Here are the songs… Attached File(s) Jalti_Hain_Duniya__Part___2_.rar ( 2.95 MB ) Number of hits: 6 by members |
