Bhaskar Chandavarkar, Indian Sitar artiste and disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar and Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra, he was also a well known academician, part of the faculty at FTII, and a film and theatre composer who worked with directors of Indian cinema, in various languages including Marathi, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam such as Mrinal Sen, Girish Karnad, Aparna sen, Amol Palekar

He was also known for his blending of Indian classical and western music. Some of his popular compositions were released by Music Today in the Series
Soundscapes - Music of the Seas, and the other series Elements - Fire. I remember a a TV serial Darpan (produced by Hema Malini?) on DD years ago for which he had composed the music

Bhaskar Chandavarkar died of cancer in July 2009

Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water.

- Albert Schweitzer

Without music life would be a mistake
- Friedrich Nietzsche

Where words fail, music speaks
- Hans Christian Anderson

Music is spiritual. The music business is not
