I do not agree to the word "CLONES" , hemant da was a great singer....likes his songs but I dunno if we could call clone if hemant da have himself used subir sen for his movies.....and when I hear "Mein Rangela Pyar Ka Rahii"....... and that hurrrr hurrrrr hurrrrr like Mang ke saath tumhara style.....I could not even find him any close to hemant da...... I have couple of very good article on him..... which also includes article of SJ..... where he mentions about Subir's first break they gave him for Kathpulti :- When the song `Manzil vo hi hai pyar ki' (Film: Kathputli) was being recorded by SJ, the new singer Subir Sen could not render it properly. There were more than 18 takes and yet singer Subir Sen could not deliver. Finally, Shankar got so upset that he decided to replace Subir Sen with some other singer. But Jaikishen persuaded Shankar to try one more time. Jaikishen advised Subir Sen to concentrate a little bit more. This encouraged Subir Sen and he did full justice to the song at the next take, and finally the song was recorded to the satisfaction of Shankar. This song went on to become a hit. Some of his popular songs :- dhere chalo jara , dil mera aas ka panchi both from ass ka panchi.... manzil wohi hai pyafr ki from kathputli.... mein rangeela pyar ka rahi from choti behan... Aise na jao janemaan from boyfriend.... The way is not in the sky, the way is in the heart. --Gautama Buddha

cinemaniac2 & BJ:
This would perhaps be of interest in the context of your exchange of messages. I have put in italics what impressed me in rom's response to my post: unni: We tend to use the word "clone" in a contemptuous, almost derogatory manner. But several artistes, who later went on to become big names, started their careers by adopting the style of acknowledged, popular singers of (or prior) to their time. Originality is not necessarily an asset for a rookie! rom: Rightly said, Unni ji. But I have a strong aversion to using the word "clone" to denote imitators. Cloning, in the true sense of the word, implies that the copy would be exacly similar to the original. Now, in the case of our copiers/clones, you'd see that that just isn't true. I prefer cinemaniac's choice of the word "copy-cat". Not that any of this matters. Just that I hate to see disagreements. If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
