Erum ji,

We just hear the first line of the song "Tere liye aaya hain leke koi dil". Is the complete song available?

Also, is there another clip or just one?

Many thanks

Cheers

Arre..don't worry. The link to the clip is enough for fans of Geeta ji. Let's not worry about these small technicalities. This small clip of one of the rarest song made my day!

Bahut dhanyawaad!

Yes, it is picturised on HELEN & UTTAM KUMAR! The song is composed by SUDHIN DASGUPTA for bangla film, GALI THEKE RAJPATH! smile.gif

Her bangla song Jhiri Jhiri Choyetali was featured in English movie The Namesake in 2007. smile1.gif

I just saw this thread now, I didn't realise this was such a rare song. I had the VCD with me, and had ripped the audio for this song a long while back. But the song and the film have multiple skips and is in very poor quality, so please download it only if you are desperate. I am also waiting for Erum's upload of the better version. smile.gif

biggrin.gif I know what you mean. biggrin.gif

But I just skipped through the film again and no, there are no more Hindi songs in my version of the film. There are just two more songs, one a chorus led by Manna Dey and the other a fantastic solo by Asha B., both Bangla. It's entirely possible that the company clipped out songs to fit the movie within time limits, isn't it?

Posted by: parag_sankla Jan 30 2009, 10:57 AM

Sorry FP, I was thinking that there is a duet of Geeta ji and Manna ji in this film. But I checked Mahesh's listing of duets and the song is

1960-dui bechara-karo na phere gali ke mere, bano na bhole ji-bhupen hazarika

So we don't know if there was another song of Geeta ji in this film.

Here's my attempt at the lyrics of the song from Gali Theke Rajpath:-

(Tere Liye Aaya Hai Leke koi dil
Le Le nazarana oh bhole qaatil)2
tere liye aaya

Kitne haseen hain yeh palkon ke saaye
dekh tujhe chede hain palkon ke saye
dekh tujhe koi isharon se bulaaye
(rahein na pheeki baharein zindagi ki
aa tujhko khushi ki dikha doon manzil)2

tere liye ...

Husn ke mele mein abhi albele
woh dil hi nahi hai jo dil se na khele(?)
(kehti hain fasana nigahe-mastana
mujhe to samjhana bada hai mushkil)2

tere liye...

(Jalwe dikha ke yun nazren bachana
kar ke bahana kisi ko tarsana )2
(chhod yeh adayen jo dil ko jalayen
aa mil ke banayen suhaani mehfil)2

tere liye ...

Posted by: hildebrand Feb 3 2009, 05:17 PM

FP
Do tell a bit about the setting of the song in the movie. Was there any specific reason for the song to be in Hindi? (example Helen shown to be from Bombay or something). This appears to be her item song in the movie and written in hindi to make her comfortable in dancing.

Talking of item songs, Do you have the video of Ei Mayabi Tithi? I would love to watch its video. I would never have thought of a club song in Bengali movies as well! (Are there any others in the genre by Geeta ji in Bengali?)

You are most welcome Erum ji. Its such a haunting melody found by you and FP I couldn't resist writing the lyrics down. Due to skips a couple of words maybe out of place though.

Ummm, yes... it could be called an item song, I guess. The protagonist Raja (Uttam Kumar) is a pickpocket and involved with a gang of petty criminals, and this song is picturised in their 'den' (but not anything like the 70s masala movie den, no way!). Helen's character is from Bombay, but there's no mention of her anywhere else. She looks very young and pretty. Let me figure out how to rip parts of video from VCDs and I will upload the song on an external server. smile.gif

I am not very sure about 'ei mayabi tithi'... I don't remember watching the film, but I will ask around and find out more. Give me a few days.

That puts everything in perspective. Thanks FP. She had to look very young and pretty. She must have been 20 or lesser. (Her DOB is October 21, 1939!).
There is no hurry for the videos. Take your time. There is no urgency. DO NOT forget to take backup of video before you rip it.

Thanks for the confirmation Erum ji. The pattern of skips made me think they may have the same origin.
I want to know what software and procedure you use to rip the song from VCD. I also want to extract a song from a VCD which has a big .DAT file. Perhaps you can guide me in that.

I just saw this thread now, I didn't realise this was such a rare song. I had the VCD with me, and had ripped the audio for this song a long while back. But the song and the film have multiple skips and is in very poor quality, so please download it only if you are desperate. I am also waiting for Erum's upload of the better version. smile.gif

Also I noticed that as usual the lyricist did not get much mention in the overall discussion.

FP, tell us more about this lyricist please.

Parag

You're welcome Parag. Lyricist has done a good job. I would like to know who it is too.

No, Gulzar penned the duet with Manna Dey, Karo Na Phere Gali Ke Mere from Dui Bechara(1960)

Oops..that is correct. So this song plus a couple of songs from Anubhav must be the only songs penned by Gulzar sahab which Geeta ji has sung.

Are there any more ? (Sorry for being out of topic)
