Identify the personality

I think this is from the movie 'Party' in which Peter Sellers plays an Indian who is a veg., doesn't drink and doesn't shake hands with girls.

BC Bhai

You said easy one! Fierstein is a known stage name but he has very few film credits (and mostly bit roles)....I was really scratching my head on the Fiddler hint because the two famous Tevye's are Zero Mostel and Topol.....anyways, it is a great film nonetheless.....the last of the great musicals....

Gene Wilder. His breakthrough film would be The Producers (1969) with him and Zero Mostel (the original Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof). Mostel delivers one of the classic insults of cinema history to Wilder - "You fish-faced enemy of the people".

We seem to have reached a stalemate so let me introduce him.

The top photo was indeed a Shakespearan portrayal (of Hamlet from 1922). The actor - John Barrymore - was arguably the finest actor and certainly the greatest romantic lead of the 1920s and early 30s. He was also extraordinarily handsome and was labelled "The Profile". In any case, I'm tremendously impressed by him based on the handful of films I've seen.

Acting was actually in his blood and both his brother and sister Lionel and Ethel were famous character actors. I'm sure you've seen films in which they appeared.

Unfortunately Barrymore's downfall came about due to his love of drink. This genetic curse was inherited by both his son and daughter, as described in the daughter's book Too Much, Too Soon. His granddaughter, Drew Barrymore, too suffered drug and alcoholism problems at a young age.

Too Much, Too Soon was made into quite a good film with Barrymore portrayed by close real-life friend and admirer Errol Flynn. When Barrymore died, all his friends including Flynn attended the funeral. After the mourners dispersed, some common Barrymore-Flynn drinking buddies pulled a stunt that is part of Hollywood legend. One of them delayed Flynn going home while the others dug up Barrymore's body and took his corpse to Flynn's place. When Flynn came home, he turned on the lights of his living room and saw his recently departed friend sitting on the sofa with a drink in his hand. He nearly suffered a heart attack!

Faraaj...it is a pleasure to read your comments / remarks. smile.gif
I did hear about John Barrymore..but havent seen any of his films..am afraid. I never know that Drew is his grand daughter..yes, as you said, many of the stars went out like shooting stars..due to addictions. btw..the episode of Erol Flynn is absolutely terrifying.. laugh.gif

Here is one sizzling star, am sure that you can identify her too..
