A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2007 TO ONE AND ALL

Friends, as we bid goodbye to 2006 making further deposits to the nostalgic memories etched in the mind, in the same metaphoric vein, we anchor the 50s thread Kuchh Bhoole Bisare Geet to rest and move ahead with its wonderful memories...

And just as we move into the new year 2007 with hopeful eyes, armed with wishes from one and all, I launch this new thread dedicated to Guru's songs from the decade of 60s, with the hope and good wishes from all of you that it would be enjoyable to everyone ...As i launch this thread, i continue to count on support from Nimii, GuruFan, RKI, Madhavi, Marcie, CM2, Azad, Maheshks...this list just goes on and on and includes each one of you.....

Unlike many of his songs of 50s, a number of his songs from 60s are still very much in circulation, be it in parties, ceremonies, functions or stage shows....his songs of 60s are indeed a mixed bag, some known some forgotten....that's why i decided to call this thread as Kuchh Jaane Anjaane Gaane....

I shall start posting the list of songs in this very soon.....I am deliberately not putting up any list here so as to keep this very first post exclusive for the index of all the songs that we would discuss.....

In the meanwhile, i shall be glad to have any feedback from you all based on your experience with the 50s thread, your suggestions for making it more enjoyable and participatory, and your comments chaahe khatte chaahe meethe....

I am back now but not quite, as the last earthquake here has made a mess with the net connections, I will not be able to get my internet connection at home with the normal speed until the 15th. It is just a trickle now which makes it impossible to even browse a web page. The only hope is the office, where I am able to access HF via the intranet and our proxies in other countries.
3 weeks of PC free holidays and now this earthquake drama here.............and to put some icing on the cake, you people have uploaded so many guru songs that I don't have..............what can one helpless soul do?

I guess I have the answer: Download at work, get caught and get reprimanded or even fired.......................whatever may happen, nothing will deter me.
Anyhow, keep up the good work and rest assured I am not gonna disappear from here.

yes I have a small dvd player Eskayes and I can use a line-in cord between the headphones of the player and line-in of the computer and record That is how I rip my cass too. Sounds complicated isn't it?

Yes, a bit complicated....but wonder why you do that...infact when you you do line-recording, the digital signals of DVD actually get converted to analog signals at the line-out of the headphone....so there will be some signal (and hence quality) loss....

but you said you aren't using DVD-rom, so you wont be able to rip it directly from the DVD disc in any case....

If one uses software to rip it, then the digital signals remain digital all through....anyways even audio ripping of DVD using software is a bit complicated..it is a three-stage process unlike VCDs, which is straightforward....

There are softwares that allow you to rip audio directly out of video. Other option would be to convert DVD to MPEG format and rip audio like VCD

I use a software called "ImTOO" DVD Audio Ripper, just a one shot process. Displays all the audio tracks on the DVD (music DVD) or the chapters of a Movie DVD. With the music DVD, each track is separate chapter, so no dramas there, just select the ones you want and rip it. With the movies, you will see many chapters under the root directory but unfortunately they don't normally coincide with the song tracks, you can rip the whole chapter and use a MP3 splitter and cut the song out of it.

GF I have 48, but not 49. The vcd and the dvd both dont seem to carry the 49th no. Whether the number turned a casualty coz of the great scissors of the vcd/dvd companies to fit the movie in their discs or not, is still a puzzle The Naughty boy number too faces the same fate!

Uploading Zarurat Hai Zarurat - This number has great nostalgic memories for me! Every road trip I would carry my fav cassette (fun songs of Kishore Kumar)and I remember the tete-a-tete I shared with my family over this number - a typical MCP Number

but i would like if someone could upload the full three-stanza version of #75...Aa Chal Ke Tujhe...normally the records have come out with only two stanzas....the third stanza goes like this:

This is not a duet by Kishore with Manna Dey. The CD released by saregama has labeled it as a song by Manna Dey and Chorus.

Yes Hum Tum, the discs do not give credit to KK, but this is very much a Manna Dey-KK song.....remember this movie is a home production of KK...he already had so much of credits flowing in courtesy his versatile skills, that he made some concessions here...

I think 'O Jag ke rakhwale' is purely Mannada's song.. In the fag end he sound like Kishoreda, but he is definately Mannada!! Here is my version (very good sound)..

My memories for this song.. I wanted to record the song 'Yeh jeevan hai' from Piya ka ghar in my own voice. After doing practise, I went to record the song. At the last moment, I realized the sound tracks was not very good. The violin lead was very bright, so I was not too happy to record that song. The recordist asked me my fav song and I told him 'Aa chal ke tujhe' is my fav but I dont have lyrics with me... I somehow tried to remember the lyrics and wrote it on a paper. I recorded the song without any practice. Recordist and I was happy for the recording. But when I came home, I realised that I made mistake in the second stanza.. But the recording was really good.. Its uploaded in 'Sur mein na sahi' section in 'New year wishes by OMkar'... Now I have the beautiful Karaoke track of this song on my cassette.. Once I am thru with other stuff, I would practise well record it again with correct lyrics!!

Enjoy my most fav.. 'Aa chal ke tujhe main le ke chalun'... I also had uploaded the stage performance of this song sung by Kishoreda in Christmas days, I guess.. Its a beautiful version as well.. Dnt miss that as well.. with Different orchetstra.

No guys, i am absolutely sure it is KK's voice in the end...and VN's listing only confirms this...and the book has specifically mentioned as well that though the discs say it as Manna Dey and chorus, it is a Manna Dey-KK duet...so if you go by the listing on records, you wont find KK's name....i would completely trust my instincts on this....and say it is KK- Manna Dey song....

Now why KK's name was not there on records, of course, is a mystery....let me offer you one possible reason for this....

If you listen to the song Michael Hai To Cycle Hai, Michael Jo Nahin Cycle Bhi Nahin from Bewakoof very carefully, you will find that the second stanza main lines (it is a three stanza song) have been sung by Manna Dey, though it is classified as KK-Asha duet on music records....the fact is those lines have been actually sung by Manna Dey...the story behind this is that...the MD/Producer wanted to redo those two lines in the song....and KK was not available at that point in time to do the re-recording of those lines....so those lines were dubbed in Manna Dey's voice...

May be similarly here, KK wanted to redo the end, and he dubbed those lines in his own voice....this luxury was possible because, as i had mentioned earlier as well while discussing KK-Manna Dey Jodi in Jodi thread, the "vocal pitch" of KK and Manna Dey is almost the same...

Eskayes, in Michel hai to cycle hai song, Mannada's voice is clearly visible and the Redoing work is also clearly visible. I asked this question to some people in the past, and no one knew about this story u mentioned here. Thanks for the information dude!!

In 'O jag ke rakhwale', at the end 'Kiya sab kuchh tere hawale' sounds very much like kishore... Then 'Hum tujh bin kaun sambhale' line comes twice. In the first time 'BIN' (tujh bin) word resembles exactly like Kishore but remaining voice is NO WAY sound like Kishore.... When he says 'Hum tujh BIN kaun' second time, he DOES NOT sound like Kishore at all... Hear it carefully.. I strongly feel VN's book must have made some mistake while writing about it. (Hope u guys dont feel my opinion offensive)

Guys, In those days the recording facilities were not so good... You can clearly see in Michel hai to cycle hai song... Then how can Kishore had done Redoing work without making so clear visible?? Hope u got my point..

And I totally agree Manna Dey's voice pitch is many times similar to Kishore Kumar... There was a song with me (I dont have it now), it was from Sanjeev Kumar's film.. In that song, Manna Dey sounded exactly like Kishore Kumar in the begining.. When I got the cassette recorded, I found out that he was not Kishore but Manna!!

Absolutely agree with you eskayes, it is possible to make out KK's voice at the far end of the song.


What on earth does this mean....... I am sure Walker meant "far end" and it was just a typo. Koi baat nahin "fag end" hi sahi.

Azad, just that the 'far end' is the tip of a 'fag'...completely on opposite side to the 'fag end' ....so a typo could just take you to the other end...:lol :lol....Jaana tha Japan pahunch gaye Cheen samajh gaye na....

I agree with you Azad...infact Omkar, the last part (staying clear of 'far end' and 'fag end' ) is completely sung by Kishore (and chorus, of course)...i mean the entire slower part starting from Kiya sab kuchh tere hawaale....incidentally, just checked up with Kamal Dhiman's as well....and that too lists it as a KK-Manna Dey duet...

There is one more possibility, which i think is more tenable...the song actually logically finishes when Manna Dey finishes...the latter part is more like reciting (in that sense different from singing) by the actor Kishore rather than singer Kishore...and that's perhaps the reason why he didnot include his name in the credits...

Just that this debate does not become unending, i feel, in the absence of any recorded proof on music discs, let us give 'benefit of doubt' to our ears and keep it the way we all like...i am keeping it as a Kishore duet....else we will have to go to a third umpire...and in this case, only Manna Dey or Amit Kumar could be the third umpire ...

So while KK sang for the first time with LP in Mr. X in Bombay, soon we will be discussing the first movies of KK with RD Burman and Kalyanji Anandji in this thread (in the year 1965 infact)...the other two who completed the trio....that was the beginning of an era of trios looks like....so while LP, RDB and KA formed the musician trio, soon KK would rise to the top singers position to complete the trio with Rafi and Mukesh....that also was the time when Shammi Kapoor, Dev Anand and Rajendra Kumar formed the leading heros trio...and why only bollywood, around the same time the famous spinners trio of Bedi, Chandra and Prassana was to emrge on the cricket scene....

I was a toddler those days learning to walk in the then quiet city of Bangalore....having just completed the trio for my parents (being the eldest of my parents children)

There are 2 versions of this song 'Ajnabee tum jaane pehchanese lagte ho'; were both of them used in the film. Lyrics are same only the orchestration/interludes are a bit diffrnt.

Well, i had seen this movie many years ago....i do have a faint memory that the song had come twice in the male voice in the movie...i had recently got its VCD, which i am yet to see...will see it this weekend and check this out....incidentally there is a Lata version of this for sure, which Nimii mentioned recently in, i think, tandem songs thread...

Just saw the vcd....this song comes only once in male voice...i ripped it nevertheless to check with the version i had....well, the one which i already had was a digitally remastered version....the revival series one...from the wave pattern, you can make out that the remastered version has smoother waves with waves of music channels lifted up in amplitude...no wonder the music sounds a bit different...

Guangzhou..Oh yes.It's north of Hong kong if i am not mistaken.One of the very fast industrialising belt in China.
I remember driving from Hong kong northwards crossing the boarders by car..etc.

Isn't that the place? there is one airport there from where i finally flew to Peking.

Yes correct Guangzhou is a very fast growing city, very modern too if you want to compare it with Beijing. Guangzhou is 90 minutes train ride north of Hong Kong. The border you crossed was at Shenzhen and you probably flew out of the Shenzhen airport to Beijing or maybe be out of Guangzhou airport if you travelled 2 hours to get to the airport after crossing the boarder. Shenzhen is the boarder city between Guangdong (provinvce) and Hong Kong. Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong.

1. The song "Bas Qayamat Ho Gayee" actually starts with a few lines by Guru which goes like "Duniya Kahti Mujhko Paagal"...so both are the same songs Azad and GF.....my apologies, i should have mentioned the extened line for this song.... I too have this one tagged as "Bas Qayamat Ho Gayee" and infact the first few lines which i mentioned are missing....it will be great if someone could upload the entire song.....

2. Yes, there was another "Farishta" released in 1983, which had the song which Azad mentioned....
