I haven't heard the maya devi version. I thought the ratan bai version was the first one!

I read somewhere that the record where the same song was recorded by Shamshad ji as Radhe Rani had another bhajan by her. Request its information and song if available with you.

I read somewhere that the tune Ek Yaad Kisi Ki was composed by Rafique Ghaznavi even though Ghulam Haider was the official MD of Shama (46). GA Chishti composed Aaj Ki Raat from Jugnu (47) even though Feroze Nizami got the credit as MD. GH composed for Pheray but GA Chishti was the "official" MD.

I think MD's at that time didn't realise how special their music would be considered by future generations....

The MDs of that time were the true artists who lived for their art and not for money and recognition. They also helped out each other from time to time as you mention. This is the reason for the great average quality of music in those times.

I just realized that songs 1&2 above are the same. The song is actually called Dil Leke Rooth Gaye Shyam and is a Shamshad Begum Solo. For some reason, the way I tagged it, I took it as Shyam the singer Anyway, it is attached (the recording is very bad!). So is the song from Humayun

Nice song. Must be one of the last Ghulam Haider also sang. Neither Shamshad, nor GH break into solo and because her voice is masked it almost sounded to me like Noorjehan! I guess I've heard NJ's GH compositions in early punjabi films too much!

By the way, for both songs you uploaded, the length on Media Player appears as 27hrs 03m 11sec - seems to be an encoding issue....

Nice song - I hope we can get decent audio for it. Here are two more Shamshad solos from Sheesha (1952). Both are mp3/128 kbps decent quality audio (perhaps not CDQ)....both lovely songs which I'm quite sure you'll really like.
