A good read about what black holes are on the NASA site.

black holes are holes in the fabric of space caused due to piercing by a dying star. The edge of the hole is called the 'event horizon'. At the event horizon, an object can be in suspended animation for an infinite time as this is the threshold of the gravitational pull of the hole. Once an object crosses the event horizon, it can never come back.

It is theoretically taken that the only way to come out of a black hole is to travel at a speed faster than light. However, that will theoretically take you 'back in time'.

There is a limerick (some say it was written by Einstein when he applied the Theory of Relativity to black holes and figured out this 'escape route' and realized its consequences). It goes like this:

There was a young lady called Bright

Whose speed was faster than light

She set out one day

in a relative way

And returned on the previous night.

(Some say that the 'relative' word refers to the theory of relativity).

Ok, a very theoretical way of going into the past:

Lets consider a large, circular park in the middle of the city.

It takes you 30 minutes to complete a walk around the park.

Run, and you take 20 mins to do that.

Take a bicycle, and you need 10 mins.

A motorcycle - 5 mins.

A car - 2 mins

A very fast car - 0.5 mins (30 seconds)

A helicopter - 10 seconds

A supersonic plane - 2 seconds

A spaceship - 0.5 seconds

Note that by choosing a faster mode of transport, you leave the starting point and come back to it quicker and quicker. In the last case, you have left at 00 time, and come back in half a second. Most people around haven't even noticed that you left and came back.

Now, you manage to get a vehicle that can go many times faster than the spaceship you last rode in. So you take a trial.

You leave, complete the round, and are back SO fast that no time has elapsed.

You are thrilled. So you decide to step on the gas.

So you leave at say 2 o'clock, REALLY let it rip, and are back at 1:55!!!!!

You have just travelled back in time.

Does it make sense?

Yes it does clap2.gif Yipee! Got that. Now I need that vehicle to go back in time mad.gif
So what you mean to say is The black hole is nothing but a circular tube like concept.. where you go in and return through the other opening which is nothing but from where you started.

No, the black hole isn't that. What you have just understood might fit in more with a worm-hole.

Worm-holes are theoretical extensions of black holes.

Consider that the black hole is a tunnel. Now assume that the opening of the tunnel is in B'lore. Let us assume that the other end of the tunnel is in New York - halfway around the world.

Assuming that you have the necessary outfit to withstand the tremendous forces in a black hole, suppose you enter the tunnel. Now you can only exit the tunnel if you travel faster than light.

So the moment you enter the tunnel, in a nano-nano-nano-second you will exit in New York. If your friend there is talking to your mother, ma will say Nimii is in the other room. But in reality, at that moment you will be in your friend's kitchen in New York.

She tells your ma "how can it be? She's right here!!"

By the time your ma takes the cordless and walks into your room, you have zipped back into your B'lore room and are sitting on the bed (holding the latest edition of NY Times in your hand wink2.gif )

How does it sound? You have just used a worm hole...

I am going thru this link given above. Has some diagrammatic explanations too huh.gif Goodbye folks.. here I go into black hole.. cya in the year before wink.gif a year younger too wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

This is how the idea of a time-warp / space-warp works.

Want to Visit a Black Hole? Do You Have 200,000 Years?

Ever wanted to "see" a black hole? Or send a satellite to take a look?
IPB Image
According to Reuters via Yahoo! News, a trip starting from the heart of a large galaxy and traveling all the way to the black hole at its center takes roughly 200,000 years. That assumes that you're moving at 110,000 miles per hour (almost 177,000 kilometers per hour).

No word in this report on whether more direct routes are available. Surely we can skip some of the spiral and just cut across to the black hole. If we dare.
P.S. It's a one-way trip.

Phew this is kinda eerie Mandrakeaah wacko.gif blink.gif But still I am game wink.gif Wish I could go there wub.gif
