Bhatkande School of Music alumnus Shri Nath Tripathi (better known as S.N.Tripathi) was a class composer in his own right, who, despite getting stuck in the devotional-mythological-costume drama rut, never allowed his compositions to get bogged down in that idiom. (Remember the electrifying "Zara saamne to aao chhaliye"?) Listening to S.N.Tripathi, I have always found, is a rewarding experience. Here, then, are two vintage Tripathi creations, from the 1951 "Lakshmi Narayan", rendered by the one and only Geeta Dutt, for your listening pleasure:
