This is indeed a momentous moment.
There are many circumstances when life will deal unfair cards to us. Geeta Ji's life was one such. She had so much to give and yet, it all was cut short by so many reasons. After a long a time, it is nice to do something to keep her memory alive...and an effort to make others realize the beautiful numbers she sang...in so many different languages and to bring back some memories and reminiscences of those golden times.
Truly a tribute befitting the Girl with the Golden Voice !!
All are welcome !

Wonderful Parag bhai.. We all look forward to this auspicious day! A great launch for a great legend Geeta ji, who deserves this befitting honour! bow.gif

Paragji

I'm eagerly waiting for this day. Fate is not in favour of Geetaji, it snatched away her career and life. But still she lives in our memories with her golden voice. We can preserve her songs, photos, other informations for the coming generations through this website. Thanks Paragji for your hard works for starting this website.

Great work Parag Bhai and other fans of Geeta Dutt.Till date highest number of websites, webpages and blogs have been made on Kishore Kumar.

Posted by: parag_sankla Nov 18 2008, 07:35 PM

A concept started more than 3 years ago..
A visualization started 2 years ago...
And consistent efforts from more than 50 kind souls..

That is the kind of groundwork which this site has gone through. We all Geeta ji fans hope that the website will be our small tribute to the legendary playback singer.

Here is the thread which indicates that the concept was conceived more than 3 years ago by the then HF admins

I can only quote ...a couple of thoughts . One befitting Geeta Dutt Ji..

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.”

Truly befitting as She gave so much happiness to millions of people all round the world and definitely deserves immortality.
That is just the inspiration.

Next is for Parag and all the regular visitors to this thread...who contributed so much. And for the team that is made from sheer love towards the departed Soul..

“Thinking is easy, acting is difficult, and to put one's thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.”

Parag did it. And am so much happy for him. bow.gif

Looking forward to it. smile.gif

And I join SF in congratulating Parag, were it not for his consistent and tireless efforts, I think the dream would have taken much longer to turn into reality. smile.gif

Hi Exon

Thanks for you kind words. Many HF members and even music lovers outside the HF world (most of them long time music lovers) have helped in this noble cause. This site could not have been made possible without the great efforts from all of them.

The team is in the process of giving last minute touches so let us wait for the 23rd to see it. Looking forward to the auspicious day!

By the way, in case the original announcement does not make it clear, a little more info on the site.

After the success of sites in the memory of legendary artists Asha ji, Kishor ji and Rafi ji, this is the fourth presentation from HF board. The Geeta Dutt fans team is only involved in the building of the site. The team sincerely thanks the board for giving this "once in a life time" opportunity to do something meaningful in the life. Something above the regular day to day work, something above and beyond any personal gain what so ever.

Thanks for your kind words. Just like the singer Geeta Dutt who was never into competition with any one, her fans too do not believe in it.

What we are doing is from the bottom of our hearts, just to let every one know that Geeta Dutt is beyond, much beyond "Baabuji dheere chalna" and "Mera naam chin chin choo".

We will look forward to your comments and feedback on the site when it will be launched on the 23rd of this month.

Venkat, I used to feel so sorry that such a talented artist got such a raw deal from the destiny. And the fact that she never got the name and fame she truly deserved used to make me feel even more disturbed. Those feelings are the real motivation behind this effort in building this website.

Its a small tribute and should (at least partially) serve a showcase of her immense talent.

The team will make all the efforts to keep the site updated on regular basis. This is a promise!

Anupama,

Thanks for your encouraging words. You are a great friend a great motivator. Thanks a lot.

At the cost of repeating myself, I would like to say that HF has given all of us this "once in a life time" opportunity to do something meaningful in the life. We always live for ourselves and be happy about it. Here we have one of the most talented artist, who passed away at a tender age of 41. This was more than 35 years ago and sadly very few people know about her.

So here is our tribute to showcase her talent to the world. The team does not claim that every thing will be original work or will be the best. This is just the begining of what we want to do. We want more and more people to help us so that we can make this site a great place to know about Geeta Dutt, the one singer who never got her due.

Subir ji,

This dream could not have come true without your efforts. I have just seen a couple of under construction pages, and I am moved by the elegancy and grace that overflows in them. I can just imagine how hard you would have worked for designing and creating it.
You really deserve a standing ovation. clap2.gif

Also, the hard work done by Swarapriya can't go unnoticed. She is been excellent member here on HF and outstanding in helping to make this dream come true.

Hilderband ji, Venkat ji, SF, Firangi Paani, KKFan, Anupama all have made an excellent team. I am itching for the next monday (sadly, not Sunday) to come sooner.

And all in all, Parag has exemplified the persistance for me. His efforts will remain the height to touch for me in future.

Would like to give a link here to a thread which was opened some time back to discuss the "History" and the "Progress" of Geeta Dutt forum on HF.

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=55270&hl=

Its amazing to see that it started with a thread opened in Mohd Rafi forum (because there was no Geeta Dutt sub-forum created at that time) and now we are close to seeing a full-fledged website dedicated to this legendary artist.

Thanks to all who have made this possible. I only wish Bappa Chatterjee was here to see this.

First of all a huge Thank you to Paragbhai and all the people who made
this web sight dream come true. Absolute dedication and scarifices were
made to keep Geetaji's memories alive. Congratulations to Paragbhai and
everyone who helped him.

In 1965 I moved to India from East Africa and went to live in Santacruz-west
in an apartment complex on S. V. Road.
In building no. 3 Geetaji moved in on the first floor with her children Taru, Arun and
Nina together with some relatives.
We had quite a few film personalities living in the complex at that time.
Hemnatda's sister in law, B.R. Chopra saab's editor Mr. Pran Mehra,
Mohan Chotiji, Jeetandra's sister (Gatu's mom).etc.
All of them were very very humble and friendly and always ready to
talk to us wide eyed teenagers.
I remember Mohan Chotiji a lot and he used to come to our house on
Holi day and drag us to play holi.
On one such occassion, Geetaji and her children came down to play
holi and Tuntunji (Umadevi) was visting Geetaji so she came to play as
well. We had a great time. Both of them sang songs and reveled in the
festivities. No airs, no show off, nothing. For us as teenagers, it was a big
deal because we were not ignored. Geetaji was so beautiful and what an amazing voice!!!
Geetaji was a very kind and compassionate soul, always smiling and would stop and say hello
if she was going out. The children were here life.
In the evening we used to see her sitting in the balcony listening to her
songs and would wave to us when we passed by. You could see her listening to
her songs of Anubhav, Mujhe Jaan na kaho meri Jaan, Koi chupke se aake.
I have heard her singing these while she was playing the record too. What a beautiful voice!!!
We knew she was lonelyand sad yet she had such compassion!!! Smile and acknowledge us even
in her sadness!!!! You saw a kind of melancholy in her eyes, yet she always had a smile for everyone.
Then one day, we heard she was in hosipital and we all felt very very sad.
We kept a vigil as to what was going on and when she passed away it was
a very sad day for all of us. It felt as though the whole world was quiet that day!!!
What a beautiful soul was Geetaji??? The thing that I remember the most is
her smile, her beauty and those beautiful expressive eyes.
I will never forget her.

Posted by: simplefable Nov 19 2008, 09:15 PM

Jairaj Ji..That is an amazing anecdote. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us on this wonderful Forum. bow.gif
It is always acknowledged that Geeta ji is indeed a kind and compassionate soul but hearing it from you in first person is so much gratifying.
Geeta ji may not be with us physically, to rejoice these moments, but am sure She will be happy where ever she is...

QUOTE(jairaj @ Nov 19 2008, 06:32 AM) *

Jaishree ji

There can not be a more fitting "Tribute with a human touch" than this. I have heard "so called tributes" from a couple of legendary female playback singers (who claim to be friends with Geeta ji). What they have said is hardly in remembrance of our beloved singer.

We all sincerely appreciate you taking time and efforts in putting your thoughts together for us. As we all know Geeta ji was a great human being and her simplicity and warm nature makes her even dearer to us.

Your write-up has brought in so many complex emotions.

Amazing..thank you so much once again!

Thank you Paragbhai for your kind words. I wrote it from my heart.
She really touch my life young as I was.
It is a blessing to meet such beautiful compassionate souls
in your life-very rare to find such people.

Another person that came to mind was Vijay Anandaaab.
He was a dear dear friend and an elegant human being.
Very evolved and very caring.
Miss him a lot too.

And ofcourse my son Deepak was one such loving soul
as well. HE taught us all some great lessons in life and I
found out how precious he was to others when I got letters
from his collegues and friends and some stangers who had
only met him once to say how Deepak had touched their lives
with his love, compasiion and humility.
I do miss him as any parent would but feel so thankful and blessed that
God in his eternal mercy found it fitting to choose me as his mother.

I feel very very blessed to have met Geetaji, Vijayji who have touched
my life in a positive way.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for such selfless work to keep
Geeta aunty's memories alive.

Jaishree Ji...I truly appreciate you , as you are able to participate again actively on this forum. Even in the midst of personal tragedy of such scale.
I can only say that Deepak has lived his life in such a beautiful way, God thought him to be fit for heavens and called him over so soon. We should rejoice His life and the principles He set.
Our deepest condolences to you and your family members.

I have read somewhere that initially Asha ji was allegedly imitating Geeta Dutt so much that when Geeta passed away, BBC played the song "Sach huey sapne tere" from the Dev-waheeda starrer (Kala Bazaar) which is sung by Asha Bhosle and not Geeta Dutt.

Even this song you have quoted above is sung by Asha ji and not Geeta ji.

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=55270&hl=

Its amazing to see that it started with a thread opened in Mohd Rafi forum (because there was no Geeta Dutt sub-forum created at that time) and now we are close to seeing a full-fledged website dedicated to this legendary artist.

Thanks to all who have made this possible. I only wish Bappa Chatterjee was here to see this.

I would like to re-emphasize on this one, hence posting a reply on this.

I still keep visiting that thread that Ashraf ji started on 7th Feb 2004.

From one thread, to one forum in a sub-forum, to a forum on the home page and now finally a full fledged website!

Whooooo...quite a journy!

One of the most complete songs till date. Beautiful Lyrics by Kaifi Azmi ji, Excellent composition by S D Burman, Superb Picturisation by Guru Dutt and to top it all, the magical voice of Geeta Dutt. The song leaves one with an unparalleled Heavy Impact. (The Most Bhaaaari Song). A favourite of many!

Thanks FP for spreading the word around. The timing of this radio program is the best possible timing considering listeners from the Indian sub-continent and US. Its odd time only for Australia.

We used the same timings in 2006.

I wouldnt call that interruption Parag.. every song brings in memories of those capsules of our life which are long since relegated to vaults deep inside our psyche. It is these memories that makes them more memorable..I still remember those nights when we sat enthralled hearing to unknown people talking out..on those Chaaya geet programs. Go at it ! smile.gif

Hi Jaishri ji

Geeta ji has been my favorite since I was a child. I remember friends teasing me (all liked Lata) about it. I remember the days of frantically searching for audio cassettes of her songs...

With internet, computer, mp3...it has become so easy for us now. We can listen to so many of her songs.

Yeh HF board ka badappan hain, ki unhone hum ko yeh maukaa diya hain!

Looking at this pic, I remember how much of struggle/follow-up we went through to get a digital image of this pic. Another music lover who has vanished from HF for several months now helped us with that...

Her voice was with us when we were Happy - when we were Sad - when we wanted some Peace of mind - when we felt Love in our life - we we felt the pain of seperation from our loved one's.... her songs lifted us from gratest of depressions.... and more than that multiplied our Happiness infintly with her voice....

Parag - this is such a befitting tribute to ONE & ONLY GEETA ROY DUTT and I just dont have words to express my Gratitude towards the whole Team for having given us this Website.

Wish You All The Best my Dear Friend smile.gif

Wow Sachin, what a "from the bottom of the heart" response from a true music lover. The team has really worked hard and faced many challenges to come up with this site. To quote a music lover (not from HF) who created a site for another legendary artist " A lot of hard-work goes into this kind of thing. Pulling off a voluntary effort of this magnitude with such a professional result requires a lot of dedication and skill. "

The site will be updated on regular basis, so keep visiting it.

Thanks once again

Warmest Regards
Parag

The most touching section in the site is "Geeta & Her Children"..... when a women becoms famous we almost forget that she is a Mother also.... and I felt really happy that she was such a caring mother - like any other mother - inspite of her being sucessful & more so when she was constantly struggling & fighting aginst odds & pains in her marriage....

A small thing I noticed is in the section 'Life with Gurudutt'.. is that Guru Dutt's family is from "Mysore"... the fact is that the 'Padukone' family to which Guru Dutt belonged hails from "Mangalore" (Panambur, a village in South Kanara district of Karnataka - to be precise)... where you will find may Konkani speaking people to which the surname 'Padukone' generally belongs to.

Posted by: simplefable Nov 23 2008, 02:03 PM

Parag Saab

My congratulations! The site is excellent - I was just browsing it. The directors page with brief write-ups and song lists is a brilliant touch and I don't recall seeing it on any other tribute site! I'm really very impressed by your dedication....

Speaking of dedication, Geeta Roy started her career as a bhajan singer and while that phase of her career is now overshadowed by her more jazzy tunes, I think her best song was still a lovely bhajan composed by the mercurial Sajjad Hussain. I'm sure you've heard it dozens of time and would enjoy it once more....

Cake to sabko mil gaya. Party bhi achchi chal rahi hai. Par bina naach gaane ke yeh adhoori hai.

To chalo isse gaane se celebrate karein!

Upload kar raha hoon meri jaankaari ka eklauta Geetaji ka Birthday party song (This excellent quality audio is courtesy Mahesh ji who uploaded it sometime back. Thanks sir for sharing it once again!).

Pom Pom Pom Baaja Baaje
Dholak Thunak Thunak Thun
Ghadi Ghadi Yeh Aayein Ghadiyan
Baar Baar Yeh Din!

(Movie: Asmaan (1952), MD: O.P. Nayyar)

HB, thanks for remembering this birthday song on Geeta ji's birthday. Of course every one knows that this was the debut film of O P Nayyar as composer.

Yes, I know that was his first movie.
Infact, not many people know is that its starting piece was used as the signature tune of Binaca Geetmala for many years before it was replaced by the Spanish Gypsy tune.
A kind HF member had uploaded the signature tune some time back.
Reuploading it for those interested.

Subir bhai, you deserve a standing ovation for you commitment and dedication. The team troubled you so many times but we always got a smile from you and quick response..always..

Thanks bhai, you are a true gem of a person!

Hello Mahesh ji
You are most welcome. The tune being taken for Binaca Geet Mala is really an indication of the quality of O.P. Nayyar's music in the movie which didn't get its due because of the movie flopping. Thanks once again for uploading the songs of the rare movies. I had been searching for the CH Atma and Rajkumari songs for a really long time. I am deeply indebted to you for uploading songs of the movie and also Baaz. Songs of both the movie have given me great happiness after listening after so much search. If I could get all Sailaab songs too it would be really wonderful. (I only have a few).

This signature tune was provided by a generous HF member whose name I can't recall now. He's the person we should really be thanking. He also gave the new tune chosen later. Do let me know if you need it.

http://geetadutt.com/bhatkar.html

Quote:

For Kidar Sharma’s Suhag Raat (1948), she sang three duets with Rajkumari and one with Shamshad Beghum. Veteran Kidar Sharma did play the roles of producer, director, story writer, script writer as well as song writer for this film. According to Kidar Sharma's memoirs Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was so struck by the Kidar Sharma song (sung by Geeta and Shamshad) that he sent for him. The lines that had entranced Panditji were: "Aankhoon mein aankhain daal toonay mujhko kya pilaya, Jiss taarey par nazar parri, wo tara larrkharraya"

FP

What we all did was a collaborative effort, at the same time, we should be thankful to the HF Admin for having trust in us, helping us when needed, and finally givinng us this (probably once in a lifetime for many) opportunity to do something of this scale.

No one will believe that the two persons driving this project (yours truly and the simple fable Venkat) do not have any knowldge of

HTML
Web designing
Graphic designing
Web hosting
FTP
Anything to do with a webpage except browsing it.. laugh.gif

Still we managed to pull this off. Thanks to every one who helped in every possible way. HF members and many music lovers outside the HF community all helped us alike.

Thanks all

hi
web site have non filmi song sing in radio + r .d burman song ???
panjabi.
dhall

Posted by: parag_sankla Nov 25 2008, 01:37 AM

I guess there are a few corrections to the above family tree.
1) Kanu Roy is not Geeta ji's brother, so his name to be taken off
2) One of her sister's name is Laxmi Roy who married Pramod Chakravarty
3) Nina's husband's name is Naushad
4) Nina has a daughter by name Nafeesa

More help needed

Cheers

I remember reading one of Bappa's old posts where he said he was in touch with one of Geetaji's brother whose name was Manik. (Don't remember which post though). I vaguely recall its the same thread where he said Kanu Roy wasn't her brother (but she may have had a brother by the same name).

So it means the composer Kanu Roy ( composer of Anubhav) was not her brother, but she might have another brother whose name happens to be Kanu. Am I correct?

Found only part of the information on thread: http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?act=Print&client=printer&f=87&t=10877

It says:-

Posted by: bchatterjee Oct 18 2005, 11:15 PM

Ok here is a fact that was incorrect about Geeta Dutt:

Kanu Roy is not related to the Roy Chowdhurys at all.

Mukul da and Milan da are the two brothers so far I know of. I am getting a list of all siblings of her's soon from our common friend.

Bappa

So from this its clear about Kanu Roy MD not being brother. Another brother Milan is mentioned in this post. I can't find the post mentioning Manik Roy or another brother also being named Kanu.

The 'Tributes' section made for great reading, especially the one by Meena Kapoor. Is there a way by which the Hindi text can show up in Devnagri instead of or along with the Roman transliteration? Reading paragraphs of Hindi in Roman script is not very easy for me, having it in Devnagri would look better too, I think. smile.gif

Posted by: simplefable Nov 25 2008, 05:50 AM

Frangipani...it is not a big deal. There is a software which can convert english words into Devnagri...We can do it in the next update.. a good idea. smile.gif

Did Geeta Dutt sing "Vande Mataram...." - with G M Durrani !!! Never knew about it - This one will be a special song since it was recorded - may be - with a different tune than Hemantda composed for Anand Math.

Any idea who was the composer - or still better can a kind - generous soul on HF upload the song if they have.

Looking forward eagerly for some response...

A lot of queries are coming about how many visitors we had after launching the site. As of now, we have not set up that feature..

Will have to check with the person who developed it to check if there is any way to track this information.

SF,

Thanks for informing us of QuillPad. What I like about it is that it supports more natural spelling. Earlier I had seen some online tools where I had to write 'giit', 'bhuul' and so on.
