The other duet is sung by some other female singer..but it was recorded in Geeta ji's voice !

as regards Munir Hussain
its is Mehdi Hassan with Nazir Begum in the Muhabbat Kar lay and ye chandni ye sayay.. Anyone who knows Munir and Mehdi sahab's pitch difference can easily tell its not Munir. These two were the initial duets of Mehdi Hassan. I do have his first solo from Shikar
Nazar miltay hi dil ki baat ka charcha na ho jayay.
Erum to newbie hay lekin urzung khan aap nay 78rpm dekhay baghair Mehdi Hassan ko Munir Hussain kiyon likh diya i am always acknowledging your authenticity before this post

Munawwar Zareef wasnt singer. its was Zarif with Munawwar Sultana. Zarif also sang a number of songs with Zubeda Khanam most famous being Buray Naseeb mere .. everyone must have heard that.

yeah i see serious speed problem in your upload. Whoever recorded it from 78rpm might not have HMV Speed Accuracy Record (built1962). It was a fast tune by Chishti Marhoom. but here its very slow so i have to come in action. bolay to "aana hi paRa sajnaaaa zaalim hay dil ki lagi"
Here is it with speed correction and a bit of ambiance n other effects. Enjoy Plz.

i too agree with you.''ek baat sunati hoon'' is in geetaji's voice.
nahid niazi had a voice and style similar to geetaji,but this version is by geetaji.

baat bahut hi simple hay... with due respect.
Erum is saying clearly that its sent from Pak.
Pak mein EMI ki cassette par iskay sirf 4 songs hain. aur obviously us mein ye song Film Version ka hi hay jo Nahid Niazi ki awaz mein hay. I have given u all the HMV cassette serial number too.
Old song listeners clearly know the difference between a tape noise (hiss mostly) and an 78rpm record's friction noise. I wud request Urzung to listen it carefully and tell if its 78rpm recording? cus mere paas jo cassette hay us mein obviously Film ka original sound track hay .. LP ya 78 walay songs ka nahi. aur Pak mein sirf yehi 4 songs available hain Cassette recording mein.

No idea how Geeta ji's version of "Ek baat sunati hoon" got into that cassette, but I think Mahesh has confirmed that its Geeta ji's voice. Unless Nahid Niazi has sung exactly like Geeta ji.

you said EMI made several errors, i totally agree to it as i have ALL EMI Pakistani FILMS Relaesed Cassettes at my Uncle Dr.Bukhari's Library. I repeat Every single release of Pakistani Film by EMI/HMV all arranged by Serial Numbers. I humbly wanna request all of you to plz plz point a single error of naming a Pakistani singer as an Indian singer in entire Pak released collection of EMI Pakistan. Im 200% sure u cant point out a single such error. Now i tell u the reason for it. EMI/HMV operated in both India n Pakistan (and offcourse in many many other countries) as absolutely independant organisations. The one in India had nothing to intervene in Pak as far as recording sources and materials are concerned..and even at administration level both run separately. So none of them labelled any Indian singers as Pak singer and vice versa. Yes i agree they sometimes typed Mehdi Hassan as Munir Hussain or more examples like this but NEVER a Pak singer was labelled as Indian singer cuz it was simply out of their jurisdiction. Else i'll ask you to post any single EMI cassette cover of a Pak movie inwhich any Pak singer is mistyped as Indian singer. Hope u all are getting my point.. EMI in General Zia period (when he allowed a couple of Indian movies to be released in Pak cuz of certain reason.. viz. Noor Jehan n Kashish) did release some 100 titles of India in Pakistan but its to be noted that all of them were just a reproduction of Indian cassettes with same printing as released in India and even in them u wont be able to find a single Indian artist to be labelled as Pak artist. So plz This EMI cassette whose copy is reached to Erum Ji should be treated as Pakistani as i have given u its detailed list of songs in cover ..and the singer should be treated as Nahid Niazi ...and not Geet Dutt though in my ranking Geeta is ranked way above Nahid Niazi. Am sorry if i hurt anyone but believe me narrating the facts should not be compromised.

despite variations on a theme i can very well feel a Geeta touch in Nahid Niazi enuf to misled people that its Geeta especially in very old scrappy or wavy recordings as did a few users here. Thanx a lot for posting these Gems of Khwaja Khurshid Anwar, The Best of Pak music directors and arguably among the few best in pre-partion India.

Although I havent downloaded the song.. but I think it is easy to confuse Geeta's voice with Nahid Niazi's voice. If Mahesh remembers.. long time ago I posted a Quiz on SKS.. a song from Pakistani Film "Aakhri Nishan" (1958) "Hum bhi awaara panchi or tum bhi aawara".. and I asked if someone can guess if the song is Indian or Pakistani and who the singers is? And Mahesh replied that the singer can be either Geeta Dutt or Meenal Wagh.. and then I told him that the singer is Nahid Niazi.

It is for your kind information that i have seen this film also, the song has been sung not only by geeta ji naheed niyazi also sings its a duet not in a single voice, despite of the fact there is a big combination between geeta ji and naheed ji's voice,

your kind attention is needed in the song, geeta ji starts the song very very first as under:

Geeta Ji sings:

For me it is hard to believe that this song was sung by Naheed Niazi. Irfan Anwar (Khurshid Anwar's son) told me that Naheed Niazi first ever song was for film Ayaz (1961) -- Mil gaya dil ko qaraar. I am quoting Irfan Anwar below:-

"Mil gaya dil ko qaraar is the FIRST song of Nahid Niazi. In fact Ayyaz started alongwith Zehr-e-Ishq in 1957 but released in 1961 due to a court case."


So, I am doubtful that the Pakistani versions of these songs were sung by Naheed Niazi.

i am still of the opinion that it is a geeta solo.there are many single singer songs which are picturised on two actresses as a duet.nowhere in the song do i feel that it can be any other singer.

I understand that Geeta ji is supposed to have sung 2 songs for this film Miss 56. The first one is "Ek baat sunaati hoon", which is the other one? I remember someone shared a file of "Aire gaire nathu khaire" but it was not good audio quality.

I am not sure... Someone on youtube is claiming that Geeta Dutt sang 4 songs for this film, 2 duets and 2 solos.

Perhaps somebody can see the movie credits and confirm. Dhall ji its not necessary that Geeta ji had gone for the recording to Pakistan. There is the possibility of the recording having been done in Bombay with the MD coming there. I don't think she went to Nepal for her Nepali movie Maitighar similarly. I have listened to the youtube aire gaire nathu khaire and found it very similar to geeta style+tone.

I came across a biography on yesteryear actress Meena Shorey who starred in Miss 56 and some details about the movie were put there. I am posting the relevant paragraphs for information below. If J.C. Anand was going for authenticity and even called actress from Bombay singer could have been called or arranged for recording as well.

This is what I found on youtube:
"This movie has 9 Songs in total of which two songs were recorded in India in Geeta Dutt's voice. These are available in 78rpm only. When it was decided that the movie will be made in Pak, Baba Chishty recorded one song (ik baat sunati hoon) in Nahid Niazi's voice and the other (O' Nanjhay Rahi) in Munwaar Sultana's voice alongwith chorus."

If the above is true, it means that records might exist for songs sung by Geeta Dutt, although the film versions would be in the voices of Nahid Niazi and Munawwar Sulatana.

Recently i have found one record of the Pakistani fim miss 56
"Aire gaire nathu khaire"
it is a Pakistan made (HMV) record 78 rpm..
and name of Gettaji is written wide and clear on the record..
