Hamara Forums _ Raag Rang _ Ustaad Fateh Ali Khan

Friends..

i have converted some of my audio casettes of ustaad fateh ali khan to mp3. i will try to upload the tracks one by one every now and then.

ustad fateh ali khan, as most of you know, is ustad amanat ali khan's brother. keeping to the tradition of the family. these two brothers were trained to sing together in duets. ( those of u who maight have heard them together in the thumri "kab aao gey" i posted earlier..) sutaad amanat ali khan was trained by their father to keep to the basic foundation and then later to the higher notes.. while ustaad fateh ali khan was trained to fill up the raga with numerous improvisations... now he does both the things alone. and does them well.

i am not here to post a profile on him. i will just share what i feel towards his singing. ustaad fateh ali khan was greatly influenced by his uncle ustaad ashiq ali khan and he deliberately tries to copy his style. i have heard ustaad ashiq ali khan too. the main thing he includes in his singing is what he refers to "bol taan", in which he mixes the wordings while he attempts "taan". this is a beautiful addition, which is a sort of a trade mark of ustaad fateh ali khan and ashiq ali khan.

another thing which i notice about his singing is the fact that is referred to as "aamad ki gaeki", which means he sings as it comes.. extempore... he creates music according to the crowd and his own feelings. not every classical singer can even do this. he sounds so comfortable when he performs, its as if he is having a casual conversation with somebody. i highly appreciate this quality, it leads to beautiful improvisations and comtributes heavily to the overall atmosphere of whichever raga he performs.

it is said that the great sutaads see the ragas as persons.. as a devi to be precise, and they describe the devi's beauty and majesty through the "surrs"..

i will be uploading whatever i have soon.. only if you guys are interested.. among other ragas, i have raga madhmaadh sarang, raga kedar, raga bilas khani todi, raga megh, raga jaunpuri, raga bairagi etc.

let me know.. rolleyes.gif

Wehshee, a very informative & interesting profile that you've presented here. Its these little bits of information that really sparks interest in the songs. Being on dialup, its not possible to just download anything. Its when members make recommendations/comments on the uploads that it becomes easier for users like me.

Just posting the songs really doesn't do anything to interest the person who doesn't know what the upload is about. And I know I'm very much guilty of that crime. Here's hoping to cut down on that bad habit.
Hope to see more from you in regard of contribution & some wonderful uploads. My discovery of this section and interest in it has lead to a colourful musical experience which was missing earlier.

Very much looking forward to the uploads.

thanx guys. bow.gif

actually i am extremely busy these days.. and whatever time i can find. i try to catch up on developements in the forum. unsure.gif

thanks extenok for the encouraging words.. this first upload is raga madhmaadh sarang. it is very similar to raga megh (which i will upload later), and as the name depicts, it gives a feeling of rain.. IMO, fateh ali khan sahab makes sure it does thumbs-up.gif

notice that over the years, fateh ali khan sahab's voice quality has changed to bear a strong resemblance to ustaad ameer khan's voice. which can only make it better rolleyes.gif

my apologies for the sound quality (not very crisp, but still fairly acceptable) because i ripped it from my audio casette. the slight hissing is there to prove it too tongue.gif

Enjoy guys..

Dear Weshee :

I afraid that above upload is not rendered by Ustad Fateh Ali Khan...please check with your source.

Nahi priya ji, I'm pretty sure its ustaad fateh ali khan, this recording comes from a whole series of casettes recorded in islamabad lok virsa studios in front of live audiences and released by shalimar recording company under his name. its a pack of four audio casettes of this artist alone... with his picture on the cover and everything. i have seen other programs of ustaad fateh ali khan (to say that i know his typical numbers and singing style) and can vouch for the integrity of the source.

now i am wondering... may i ask the reason for ure suspicion? does he sound too much like ustaad ameer khan or something?

Thanks for your response. My doubts are based on memory that I heard similiar song in similiar voice rendered by Munnaver Ali Khan & othres in one of the cassattes by Audiorac of UK.

But when you have those sets of cassattes....I would say that your upload stands right.

Would be interested in further uploads from your collection. Looking forward to have Megh uploads.

sure apriya,

but the thing is, ustaad munawar ali sounds so different from ustaad fateh ali khan.. although they might have the same representation style based on the fact that they are both from "patyala gharana" so i guess ure doubts are justified.

i'll be happy to upload megh and the rest.. as soon as i find some time. one funny thing u will notice in the megh is ustaad fateh ali khan does a 5 minute long alaap and then refers to tan sen as a founder of this style,, and then says "woh to tan sen thay, hum to fateh ali khan hain" laugh.gif so i guess that will best clarify who's the singer

ah yes, i forgot to list raga bhim palasi and raga shahana from ustaad fateh ali khan. i have these too y'all

i hope i can find time to convert and u/l them.. unsure.gif

yeh amreeka to museebat se kam nahi hai bhaiya.. huh.gif blink.gif
