Hamara Forums _ Spirituality _ Slokas And Stotras

Posted by: gkshyam Jun 20 2005, 07:14 PM

bye.gif Hi all.....Well, I recently recieved a request from one of the HF members....to post Slokas on the Spirituality thread......So I thought it would be a good idea to get started......

Well, let me point out that by SLOKAS, here, I mean....the small 4-lined....8-lined verses in praise of various Gods/Goddesses......The long...Big ones....with many stanzas will be referred to as "STOTRAS" (Atleast as far as this thread is concerned..wink2.gif) Most of the Slokas and Stotras in hinduism are Sanskrit based, though there are also Slokas in other Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Tamil etc.

So...starting off on this thread...All of you are welcome to add your valuable inputs....Later on, if the thread starts expanding, we can create seperate thread for different Gods etc...smile1.gifsmile1.gifsmile1.gif

Posted by: gkshyam Jun 20 2005, 09:11 PM

Wow!!! Nimmi-the linguist!!! smile1.gifwink2.gif Nice to know that I started off with your IshtaDevta.....smile1.gif Well, so you studied Sanskrit as your second language??? Woww!!! That's really great.......Well, I had studied Sanskrit (the basics) for the last three years of my schooling....but we didn't have "Slokas" in the syllabus......it was more of Poetry-based on diff. topics....philosophy......riddles etc. Very less of "Slokas" within the lessons......smile1.gif Do teach me some good Sanskrit.......Start off with putting up your slokas!!! smile1.gifsmile.gif

<meaning.

O God Ganesh (large bodied with a large belly), radiant as millions of Suns, Please, remove obstacles in all of my tasks all the time.

One more :

Gajananam Bhutagaanadi Sevitam
O elephant faced who is served by the company of Bhootas and Ganas (of Shiva)
Kapittha Jambu Phala Saara Bhakshitam
One who takes the Kapitha and Jambu fruits
Uma Sutam Shokavinaasha Kaaranam
Son of Uma and One who is reason to destroy the sorrows
Namaami Vigneshvara Paada Pankajam
We prostrate the lotus feet of The Lord of Obstacles.

<literal meaning given under each sloka>

<meaning should be understood thus>
I prostrate myself before the lotus feet of Vigneshvara (Ganesha)
The son of Uma, who destroys sorrow, who is served by the angels
He who has the face of an elephant, and
who partakes of the essence of kapittha and jambu fruits.

Please correct me if I have made any mistake sad1.gif

Hey folks, let me make a BIG request here please:

Whoever uploads a shloak should also give its meaning (like Nimii is doing). Hopefully, line for line (and if necessary, the gist). Not only will that help us understand the full shloak, but also what each line means.

Is that a practical request? blab.gif

Hi Chitrlekha , There is a Bhajan on Shivji. If i remember correctley the wordings are

' Kailash ke nivasi, namu tuje ko baar baar
Ayao sharan tumhari prabhu paar utar tu.

I have heard a loacal artist here in Houston and there was a Maharaj, can't remeber
the name, who had come here for Bhagwat katha who sang it once. It is simply a
mesmerising bhajan. I often wonderd if it is recorded by one of the professional artists. I have not come across it yet. Just in case someone in HF has come across it.

Also there is a bhajan by Suresh Wadkar in film Ramnagri

'mein to kab se teri sharan mein hu...' that I have been searching for ..

Thanks.

Ramesh.

Oh they sound great! I wish I get to hear them. I have only heard the Sanskrit ones mostly.
1. Shree Shivmahimnam Stotram
2. Shree Shivpanchaakshar Stotram
3. Bilvaashtakam
4. Rudraashtakam
5. Shree Shiv Taandan Stotram
6. Natraaj Stuti (Shat srishti taandav rachayita)
7. Nirvaanshatakam
8. Shivshatakam
9. Lingaashtakam

These are a few I have heard. Wish I had the lyrics of all of them. Its hard to type them up specially when they are long and in Sanskrit.

Check on this page - the last track. I am unable to listen to it since my real player is not working well but maybe if you can listen you can find out if its the same one you are looking for.

Tatha stu !! Chitralekha smile1.gif
Shree Ganapati Atharvashirsham [ not atharvasheesh as i had written earlier ] was written by Rishi Atharva who had a darshan of Lord Ganapati. I found the lyrics and translation on the net.

Salute to Lord Ganesha
Oh God, we hear good things with the ears, when we are listening the sacrifices and let our eyes see only auspicious things. While praising your glories we should spend our good healthy strong life serving you with our strong body which is also given by you.

Om let peace restore everywhere.

Atha Ganesha Aathrvashirsha vaykhyasyamaha |
Now let us explain the Ganapatiathrvashirsha,

You are the divine truth.
You are the only creator of the world.
You are the only protector of the world.
You are the only destroyer of the world.
You are the ultimate supreme divine power.
You are the only soul which is present party in each and every living form.

Here the meaning of Brahma is related with unknown total universal knowledge. The origin of the total universe is sound. The first basic sound or knowledge is self existent, ever lasting and full of happiness, full of spirit. The pictorial form of this original sound is OM and an idol of Ganapati is a symbolic form of OM. All the matter is created from the original sound. ( matter is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons) atoms which are. It means original soul is present partly in each and everything and it is the ultimate supreme knowledge means it is the Brahma and. The Brahma(Lord Ganesha) controls from birth till death.

Protet me from West direction, protect me from East, protect me from North, protect me from South. Protect me from top, protect me from bottom. Protect me from all sides and from surrounding.
Lord Ganesha you protect me from all the obstacles when I am praising about your appearance, when I am listening about your merits/qualities. When I am passing the merit of your worshipping to others you protect me. When I am learning your worshipping from the Guru you protect me. The obstacles which will come across in my devotional worshipping you protect them from East, West, North, South and other surrounding/directions.

You are the real speech and you are the real awakening. You are the real spirit of joy. You are the real universal divine knowledge. You are the incomparable everlasting real supreme joy. The whole world is produced from you. The whole world is exists because of you. The whole world merged into you. The whole world again one can experience in only you. You are the Earth, water, air, fire and sky(the panchamahabhutas-the five elements). You are the four states of speeches. Sounded soul which is the origin of the Lord Ganesha is the self existent everlasting unexpressed total universal divine knowledge. The three states creation, maintenance(taking care) and destruction are originated from Lord Ganesha(Matter is originated from sound. The protons, neutrons and electrons are made up of atom. Atom is made from matter.) Proton, the creator(God Brahma), neutron the care-taker(God Vishnu) and electron the destructer (God Shiva). The five elements are originated from Lord Ganesha. From Ether the air is originated, from air the fire is originated, from fire the water is originated, from water the earth is originated. A human being is also originated from these five elements by processing cosmic energy.
Lord Ganesha is the self existent original sounded soul. The knowledge of sound is visible or invisible. We can hear it but cannot see or feel it. Lord Ganesha(sound) is soul and the universe is the body. The source of words are from Lord Ganesha-the original sound. The four states of speeches are para, pashyanti, madhyama and vaikhari. The place of para is deep down inside the region of naval. The place of pashyanti is in the heart

The 'Madhyanma' is the throat and 'Vaikhari' is the movement of tongue and lips. It means the presence of Lorf Ganesha(sound) is present in all the objects in the world.

You are beyond the three states of bodies(gross, stable and causal)
You are constantly exist in the place 'Muladhara' in human body.
You are the three powers/Shakti (required for creation preservation and destruction)
The sages always meditate on Lorf Ganesha. You are Brahma, you are Vishnu, you are Rudra, you are Indra, you are Agni/God of Fire, you are Vayu/God of Air, you are Surya/Sun, you are Chandra/Moon, you are the Bramha(an organism from all living being) and the Earth, the Sky, the Heaven and the OM.

A human beings has three types qualities- Raj, Satva, Tam. Satva means Satvik means pure, holy or God fearing. A peson who is satvik, has always pure, noble clear thoughts. He is always well behaved well mannered thinking for others. Any type of bad element cold disturb him. 'Rajogna' means passionate. A person always thinks about what profit he will get if will do anything. He always accept positive results as per his thinking. If he doesn't achieve it he gets disturb. Could not keep control on his thoughts and mind. 'Tamasi' means hot headed irascible. A person is very hot tempered, selfish, his thoughts and his world is around eating, drinking, sleeping. They hurt to others never think care for anybodies feelings and duties towards anybody. Lorf Ganesha is beyond these three gunas.

Lord Ganesha always exist in place of 'Muladhara' according to the yoga there are seven 'Chakras'(states) in human body. These 'Chakras' are situated in various parts of the body. Through meditation a person can awake the power of thinking of body, correct decision power, through the power of kundalini which is in the 'Muladhara'. Lorf Ganesha the supreme power is situated in 'Muladhara'.

Ganadhim Purvamuchharya Varnadim Tadonuntarin |
Anushwara Parataraha | Ardhendulsitam |
Tarena Ruddham | Akaro Madhyamarupam |

Nada Sandhanam | Sanhita Sandhihi |
Saisha Ganeshvidhya | Ganakrishihi |
Nichrudgayatrichandaha | Ganapatirdevata |
OM Gam Ganapatye Namaha || 7 ||

Having recited the letter 'Ga' the first letter of 'Ganadhim' in the beginning, followed by the first alphabet 'A' and thereafter a dot means a crescent and with the sacred 'Om' up to these. This is the way of complete the pronunciation.
'Gakara' is the first part 'Akara' is the middle part and a dot 'anuswar' is the last part and 'bindu' is the latter form (pronunciation)
This is the 'Ganesh Vidya'(knowledge about Lord Ganesha) of Gananka Rishi(a sage) Niert Gayatri is its meter. 'Ganapati' is the God and symbolic form in words is 'OM Gam Ganapataye Namaha'.
The word Gam having the following four parts,
1) ga
2) a
3) a dot above the letter to denote the nasal sound.

Ekadantaya Vidmahe Vakaratundaya Dhimahi | Tanoo Danti Prachodayata || 8 ||
(This Is The 'Ganesh Gayatri' Which Is Introduced After Knowledge Of Ganesha. By Chanting This 'Ganesh Gayatri' God Ganapati Will Take Care Of The Devotees Life, Wealth And Property)
We Know Ekadanta

First Nam mantra, then one letter mantra, then Gayatri mantra. After finishing these three mantras a description of Ganesh idol for meditation is said as follows,
Who has one tusk(on right side), who has four hands, in upper right hand who is holding noose, in left upper hand goad. In lower left hand, who is holding elephant's tooth(ekadanta), right lower hand is giving blessings, granting boon, having the mouse as him emblem, red in colour, who is having big stomach, whos ears are like a small sift pan, who is wearing red coloured cloths, who's body is smeared with red sandalwood paste, who is worshipped with red flowers, who is always does favor and keeps kindness towards his devotees, who created this world, who is evelasting and who is the cause of the universe, who is beyond the primordial energy and individual soul. Whomever meditates on him, always is a yodi and is the best amongst the yogies.

Namo Vratapataye Namo Ganapataye Namaha Pramathpataye Namaste Astu Lambodaraya-Ekadantaya Vighnashine Shivasutaya Varadamurtaye Namaha || 10 ||

Salutation to leader of crowd( Lord Ganesha is the leader of al kinds of living souls which are the ????
Salutation to Ganapati(the supreme authority of total divine knowledge)
Salutation to leader or chief of the soldiers and sages.
Salutation to the big bellied(Lambodar), who is having one tusk, Salutation to Ekadanta. Again and again Salutation to God Shiva's son who destroys all obstacles and Varadmurti. A lord who always give blessings to his devotees.
The main Atharvashirsha ends here, with salutations to Lord Ganesha .
The following part is the recital of beneficial effects of the Atharvashirsha----

Etadatharvashirsham Yodhite | Sa Brahma-Bhuyaya Kalpate | Sa Sarva-Vighnairna Badhyte | Sa Sarvaht Sukhamedhate | Sapanchmahapapat Pramuchate | Sayamadhiyano Divaskrutam Papam Nashayati | Pratamadhiyano Ratrikrutam Papam Nashayati | Sayamprataha Prayujjano Apapo Bhavati | Sarvatradhiyanopavighno Bhavati | Dharmarth Kamamoksham Cha Vindati | Edamatharvashirsham Aa Shishyaya Na Deyam | Yo Yadi Mohaddasyati | Sa Papiyam Bhavati | Sahastravartanat | Yam Yam Kamamadhite | Tam Tamnen Sadhayet || 11 ||

Whoever will study and learn this Atharvashirsha, he will attain the total divine knowledge. He will have the incomparable happiness, he does not have any obstacles. He is free from five great sins(1. Killing of a Bhrahmin. 2. Drinking of wine. 3. Theft of gold. 4. Violating the bed of preceptor's wife. 5. Remain in the company of the four kinds of people indulging in the said sins.)
If one recites this hymn in the evening he is free from the sins done during the night. One who recites this in the morning and evening becomes sinless. One who recites this hymn everywhere will e free from all the obstacles and he will be safe from all the ways and gains all the four types of prowess namely, 1. Dharma-religin. 2. Artha - wealth. 3. Kama- desire. 4. Moksha-liberation.
The Atharvashirsha should not be taught to a student who doesn't have respect about it. If anyone will learn this for acquiring money then he becomes and looses his power. If one will recites this thousand times he will fulfill his desire.

Anen Ganapati-Bhishinchati | Sa Vangmi Bhavati | Chaturthya-Manshanajapati | Sa Vidyavanbhavati | Etyarthvarnavakyam | Brahmadyavaranam Vidyat | Na Bibheti Kadachaneti || 12 ||

Who dies the coronation to Lord Ganesha with milk or water or sugarcane juice y reciting continuously of Atharvashirsha becomes good speaker. Who does the fasting on the fourth lunar day becomes learned person. This is said by the great sage Atharva.
If one will try to understand the illusion of divine he becomes fearless and safe.

Yo Durvankuraiyajati | Sa Vaishavanopamo Bhavati | Yo Lajairyajati | Sa Yashovan Bhavati | Sa Medhanva Bhavati | Yo Modaksahastranen Yajati | Sa Vanchitphalamvapnoti | Yaha Sanjya-Samidviryajati | Sa Sarvam Labhate Sa Sarvam Labhate | Ashto Brahmanan Samyagrahayitva Suryavarchasvi Bhavati | Suryagrahe Mahanadyam Pratimasnnidhau Va Japtva | Siddhamantro Bhavati | Mahavighnat Pramuchayate | Mahadoshat Pramuchayate | Mahapapat Pramuchayate | Sa Sarvavidbhavati | Sa Sarvavidbhavati Ya Evam Ved | Etyumanishat || 13 ||

One who worships Lord Ganesha with durva becomes rich like the God of wealth Kubera.
Who does oblation of rice flakes by fire to Lord Ganesha becomes successful everywhere and becomes brilliant.
Who does oblation of thousand modaks by fire to Lord Ganesha fulfills all the desires.
Who performs oblation by offering sacrificial sticks with ghee gets all that is desired be the person(The sacrificial sticks are of the holy tree like Shami, Mandar, Banyan etc.)
Who teaches this to eight Brahmins becomes radiant as Sun.
Who recites this hymn at the time of solar eclipse, on the bank of the great rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, or near the Lord Ganesha's idol becomes enlighten with the mantra(Siddha Mantra-is the mantra where one gets the power to achieve the thing, fruitfully and immediately as mentioned in the said mantra.)
He is freed from big obstacles.
He is freed from big faults.
He is liberated from great sins. One who understands this hymn correctly knows all.
This is the declaration of the Veda and Upanishada.

Om Bhadram Karnebhihi Shrunuyam Devaha | Bhadram Pashchemaksh Bhirya Jatraha |

Shyam and Man,
Thanks. One of the Shiva Stotras that is very popular in Andhra is Vishwanatha Ashtakam. It goes :

Gangataranga kamaneeya jaTaakalaapam
Gauri nirantara vibhushita vaamabhaagam
Narayanapriya managya madaapahaaram
Vaaranasipurapatim bhaja viswanaatham

The rest of the slokas all end with the fourth line above. Uploading in SPB's voice. I am curious to know if this ashtakam is popular outside andhra.

Here is the translation of Geeta Dhyanam

Prayerful Meditation

Om Bhagwad Geeta - with which Partha was enlightened by Shree Narayana himself and which was incorporated in the midst of Mahabharata by the ancient Saint Vyasa - Oh blessed mother who is showering the nectarian philisophy of Advaita in the form of 18 chapters, upon Thee I constantly meditate - You, the sure antidote to the rocking experiences of change.

Salutation unto thee, Oh! Vyasa!of mighty intellect, who has eyes as the petals of a full-bloomed lotus-flower, by whom was lightened the lamp of knowledge filled with the Mahabharata oil.

Salutations to Krishna: Who is a tree of fulfillment, to all those who totally surrender to him, who has milked the Geeta nectar, the holder of Janamudra, the weilder of the cane in one hand with which he drives home the herd of cattle under his protection.

All the Upanishads are cows, the son of the cowherd is the milkman, Partha is the calf, men of pure intellect are the enjoyers and the supreme nectar of Geeta is the milk.I salute Krishna, the teacher of the universe, the divine son of Vasudeva, destroyer of Kamsa and Chanura, the supremem joy of Devaki.

The river of battle, with Bheeshma and Drona as its banks, with Jayadratha as its water; with the King of Gandhara as the blue water lily; Salya as the shark; Kripa as the current; Karna as the breaker; Aswathama and Vikarna as the terrible crocodiles ; Duryodhana as the whirlpool in it - was indeed crossed ove by the Pandavas with Keshavas as the ferry-man.

May the spotless lotus of Mahabharata - growing in the waters of the words of Parasara's son [Vyasa], having for its sweet and pleasant fragrance the significance of the Geeta, with many narratives as its soft inner petals, fully blossomed by the stories of Hari and joyously drunk day after day by the six footed [ honey-bees ]the good in the world-be productive of the supreme good to us who are eager to destroy and safely come out of the inner imperfections of the Iron Age.

I salute that supreme bliss, Madhava , whose grace renders the mute, eloquent and the cripple, cross mountains.

Salutations unto that God - head whom the creator Bramha, Lord Varuna, Lord Indra, Lord Rudra and the Lord of the Maruts invoke with their divine hymns; whom the singers of the Sama songs invoke through their correct and appropriate chantings; whom the Yogis realise with their minds absorbed in the goal of their contemplation through perfect meditation and whose limits are not known even to the denizens of the heavens or to the asuras of the nether kingdom.

This is a good thread for the help that I need. Many times on TV I have heard a female voice chanting a shloka which goes something like this:
Prasanna vadana Sowbhagya dayaka
Abhayaprada nanavidhi bhushita

I first heard it on a commercial for Tanishq watches, later in the background for NDTV news and last for the promo of Deepti Bhatnagar's Yatra serial on Star Plus.
I've inquired from lots of people but no success.
If anyone can give me any info about this shloka and the singer, I'd be greatful.

TRANSLATION

Dhrishtrashtra said

What did my people and also the sons of Pandu do when desirous of fighting they assembled on the hold plain of Kurukshetra, O Sanjaya

Sanjay said, Having seen the army of the Pandavas, drawn up in battle array, king Duryodhana has approached his teacher Dronacharya and spoke these words.Behold O teacher! this mighty army of the sons of Pandu arrayed by the son of Drupada, thy wise disciple. Here are heroes and mighty archers equal in battle to Bheema and Arjuna. Yuyudhana, Viraat and Drupada, the great chariot warrior.Dhrishtaketu, Chekitana and the vigilant King of Kashi. Purujit, Kuntibhoja and Saibya, the best of men. The strong Yuddhamanyu and the brave Uttamaujas, the son of Subhadra, Abhimanyu and the sons of Draupadi, all mighty warriors. Know also, O best among the twice born! the names of those who are most distinguished among oursleves, the leaders of my army; those I name to thee for thy information. Yourself and Bheeshma, Karna and also Kripa, the victorious in war Aswatthama Vikarna and so also the son of Somadatta. And many other Heros who are also determined to give their lives for my sake, armed with various weapons and missiles, all well-skilled in battle. This army of ours defended by Bheeshma is insufficient, whereas that army of theirs deended by Bheema is sufficient OR this army of ours protected by Bheesham is unlimited whereas that army of theirs protected by Bheema is limited. Therefore do you all stationed in your respective position in the several divisions of army, protect Bheeshma alone.

His mighty grandsire [ Bheeshma ] the oldest of the Kauravas, in order to cheer Duryodhana, now sounded aloud a lion's roar and blew his conch. Then conches and kettle drums, tabors, drums and cow horns blared forth quite suddenly and the sound was tremendous. Then, also, Madhava and the son of Pandu, seated in their magnificent chariot, yoked with white horses, blew their divine conches. Hrishikesha blew the Panchajanya and Dhananjaya [ Arjuna ]blew the Devadatta and Vakodara [ Bheema ] the doer of terrible deeds, blew the great conch named Paundra. King Yudhisthira , son of Kunti blew the Anantavijayam. Nakul and Sahadeva blew Sughosha and Manipushpaka. The king of Kashi, an excellent archer. Sikhandi the mighty commander of eleven thousand archers, Dhrishtadhyumna, Viraata and Satyaki the unconquered. Drupada and the sons of Draupadi, O Lord of the earth and the son of Subhadra, the mighty armed, blew their respective conches. That tumultuous sound rent the hearts of the people of Dhritrashtra's party and made both heaven and earth reverberate.

TRANSLATION

Then, seeing the people of Dhritirashtra's party standing arrayed and the discharge of weapons about begin, Arjuna, the son of Pandu, whose ensign was a monkey, took up his bow and said these words to Krishna [ Hrishikesha ] O Lord of Earth. Arjuna said, in the midst of two armies place my chariot, O Achyuta! that i may behold those who stand here desirous of fighting and on this eve of battle let me know whith whom all must I fight. For I desir to observe those who are assembled here for the fight, wishing to please in battle the evel minded son of Dhritrashtra.
Sanjaya said, Thus addressed by Gudakesa, O Bharata, Hrishikesha, having stationed that best of chariots between the two armies. In front of Bheeshama nd Drona and all the rulers of the earth. He [ the Lord Krishna ] said -" O Partha, behold these Kurus gathered together " Then saw Partha, stationed there in both the armies, fathers and grandfathers, teachers, maternal uncles, broters, sons, grandsons, father-in-laws and friends too. The son of Kunti, seeing all these kinsmen thus standing arrayed spoke thus sorrowfully, filled with deep pity. Arjuna said, seeing these my kinsmen, O Krishna, arrayed, eager to fight, my limbs fail and my mouth is parched, my body quivers and my hair stands on end. The Gandiva-bow slips off from my hand and my skin burns all over. I am also unable to stand and my mind is whirling round as it were. And I see adverse omens O Keshava, nor did I see any good from killing my Kinsmen in battle. For I desire not victory, O Krishna, nor kingdom, nor pleasures. Of what avail is dominion to us, O Govinda? Of what avail are plaesures or life itself? They, for whose sake we desire kingdom, enjoyments and pleasures stand here in battle, having renounced life and wealth.Teachers, fathers, sons and also grandfathers, maternal uncles, father in laws, grandsons, brother in laws and other relatives. These I do not wish to kill even if killed by them, O Madhusudana even for the sake of the dominion over the three worlds; how much less for the sake of the earth. Killing these sons of Dhritrashtra what pleasures can be ours, O Janardhana? Sin alone will be our gain by killing these felons. Therefore, we should not kill the sons of Dhritarashtra, our own relatives; for how can we be happy by killing our own people, O madhava? Though these, with their intelligence clouded by greed, see no evil in the destruction of the families in the society and no sin in their cruelty to friends. Why should not we, who clearly see evil in the destruction of the family-units, learn to turn away from this sin, O Janardhana? In the destruction of a family, the immemorial religious rites of that family perish; on the destruction of sacred rights, impiety overcomes the whole family. By the prevalance of impiety, O Krishna, the woman of the family become corrupt; and women being corrupted, O descendent of Vrishni-clan, there arises admixture of castes. " Admixture of castes " leads the slayers of families to hell- for their forefathers fall, being deprived by the offerings of the Pinda [ rice ball ]and water [libations ]By these evil deeds of the " destroyers of the family ", which cause admixture of castes, the eternal religious rites of the caste and the family are destroyed.we have heard, O Janardhana, that it is inevitable for those men in whose families the religious practices have been destroyed to dwell in hell for an unknown period of time. Alas! we are involved in perpitrating a great sin, in that we are prepared to kill our kinsmen, goaded by greed for the pleasures of the kingdom. If the sons of Dhritarashtra, weapons in hand slay me, unresisting and unarmed, in the battle thatwould be better for me.
Sanjay said- Having thus spoke in the midst of the battle field, Arjuna sat down on the seat of the chariot, casting away his bow and arrow, with a mind overwhelmed with sorrow. On Tat Sat. Thus in the Upanishads of the glorious Bhagwad Geeta, in the science of the eternal, the scripture of Yoga, in the dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna, the first discourse ends, entitled: THE YOGA OF THE ARJUNA-GRIEF

Hi all,

All interested in getting pdf documents for various religious scriptures (mostly in Sanskrit), please visit this website: http://sanskrit.gde.to/

It would of great use to those who are able to read the Devanagiri script. There are also pdf documents in English wich explain the meaning of many of the texts. It takes time to get used to the site layout, but some amount of browsing / experimenting is indeed worthwhile.

For any specific queries, do PM me and i shall try my best.

Happy browsing !

Vivek

PS : herculean effort by Lata ... GREAT going .....

Chapter two

Sanjay said - To whom was thus overcome with pity and despondency, with eyes full of tears and agitated Madhusudana [ the destroyer of Madhu ] spoke these words.

The Blesses Lord said - whence is this perilous condition come upon thee, this dejection, un-Aryan like, heaven-excluding, disgraceful, O Arjuna?
Yield not to impotence, O Partha! It does not befit thee. Cast off this mean weakness of heart! Stand up, O scorcher of foes!

Arjun said - How, O madhusudana, shall I in battle fight with arrows, against Bheeshma and Drona, who are fit to be worshipped, O destroyer of enemies! Better indeed in this world to eat even the bread of " Beggary " than to slay the most noble of teachers. But if I kill them, even in this world all my enjoyments of wealth and desires will be stained with blood. I can scarcely say which will be better, that they conquer us or we should conquer them. Even the sons of Dhritarashtra, after slaying whom we do not wish to live, stand facing us. My heart is over powered by the taint of pity; my mind is confused as to duty. I ask thee, tell me decisively what is good for me. I am thy disciple. Instruct me who has taken refuge in thee.I do not see that it would remove this sorrow that burns up my senses, even if I should attain prosperous and unrivalled dominion on earth, or even Lordship over the Gods.

Sanjay said - Having spoken thus to Hrishikesha, Gudakesha, destroyer of foes, said to Govinda: " I will not fight ", and became silent. To him who was despondent in the midst of the two armies, Hrishikesha, as if smiling, O Bharata, spoke these words.

The Blessed Lord said - You have grieved for those that should not be grieved for; yet you speak these words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the living nor for the dead.It is not that anytime [ in the past ] indeed, was I not, nor were you, nor these rulers of men. Nor, verily, shall we ever cease to be hearafter. Just as in this body the embodied [ soul ]passes into childhood, youth and old age,
so also does he pass into another body; the firm man does not grieve at it. The contact of senses with objects, O son of Kunti, which cause heat and cold, pleasure and pain, have a beginning and an end; they are impermanent; endure them bravely, O descendant of Bharata. O chief among men, that firm man whom,
surely, these afflict not, to whom pleasure and pain are same, is fit for realising Immortality of the self. The unreal has no being; there is no being of the real; the truth about both these have been seen by the knowers of the truth [ or the seers of the Essence ] Know, that to be indestructible by which all this is prevaded, none can cause the destruction of That - The Imperishable. They have an end, it is
said, these bodies of the embodied self. The self is eternal, indestructible, incomprehensible. Therefore, fight, O Bharata. He who takes the self to be the slayer, and he who thinks He is slain, neither of these knows, he slays not, nor is he slain. He is not born, nor does He ever die; after having been, He again ceases not to be; unborn, eternal, changeless and ancient, He is not killed when the body is killed. Whosoever knows Him to be indestructible, eternal, unborn and inexhaustible, how can that man slay, O Partha, or cause others to be slain? Just as a man casts off his worn out clothes and puts on new ones, so also the embodied self casts off its worn out bodies and enters others which are new. Weapons cleave It not, fire burns It not, water wets It not, wind dries It not. This self cannot be cut, not burnt, not wetted, nor dried up. It is eternal, all-prevading, stable, immovable and ancient. This [ self ] is said to be unmanifested, unthinkable and unchangeable. Therefore, knowing This to be such you should not grieve.

Heres a nice sloka to be recited early morning before getting out of bed:

Karaagre Vasate Lakshmi
Karamadhye Saraswati
Karamoole Sthite Gauri
Prabhaate Karadarshanam

Gist:
The Goddess Lakshmi resides at the top of the palm
Goddess Saraswati in the middle of the palm
Goddess Gauri (Parvati) resides at the base of the palm
See your palm early in the morning

I guess the prayer invokes the blessings of the three godesses (wealth, knowledge and courage).

Vivek

PS : Does anyone know a forum for discussing points of the Gita .. I always read till mid of the second chapter.. and then give up... all the philosophy becomes just too much for me ! :-(

Posted by: Chitralekha Jul 13 2005, 08:40 AM

Very nice. The one I say goes like this:

Karaagre vasate laxmi
Karmoole saraswati
Karmadhye tu govinda
Prabhaate kar darshanam

For Bhagwad Geeta I think you should just read it as story first and dont go chapter by chapter, just open the book and read from middle. Once you know bits and pieces, it will be more interesting... easier to understand. Thats how I started out.

Heres another short one from me:

I had this in school in one of the 'Subhaashithmaala' poetries..

Namaste Shaarade-Devi Kaashmiira-pura Vaasini
Tvaam-Aham Praartthaye Devi Vidyaa-Daanamcha Dehi Nah

Gist:
I bow to Goddess Shaarada, resident of the regions of Kashmir
I pray to you to give us the gift of knowledge.

Ive taken the liberty of changing the original Dehi Mey to Dehi Nah. (changing 'Give me' to 'Give us') Maybe the more knowledgeable Sanskrit members could correct me ? Hitsji ?

I suspect this should have been composed by Shri Adi Shankaracharya ... Any idea ?

Preceded by "aham", "dehi mey" probably makes more sense. However, your interpretation of the line is correct as well. Lines such as these usually occur in personal invocations and under those circumstances, it is "me", instead of "us".

Agreed, Hits. thanks for the compliment though. rollf.gif

Dont know if Im missing out on something... does 'Aham' (or any of its variants implying 'I') appear in the Gayatri mantra ?

I ask bcos the last line says " Dheeyo Yo Nah Prachodayaat" ... something on the lines of 'please inspire / bless us'

I understand the mantra has meanings at various 'levels' .. Could you enlighten us on a few of them ? I can get it off the web.. but then your explanations are special ! tongue.gif

That would require quite a bit of time commitment Vivek. We may be better off this way - If you post specific sections, with your interpretations, I can help you sort through the bigger picture.

I would hate to give cursory explanations and leave it at that. You know that there are entire volumes on that one mantra, don't you?

Would you happen to have shiv mahimna stotra pdf and mp3?

It goes (I remember a few starting lines)

Sorry NM, I dont seem to have it.. neither the pdf nor an audio clip. I only seem to have a couple of files on Shiva Sahasranaamam, though I have no idea what they are (Life mein kabhi to kaam aayega bolke save kar liya tha !) I checked up the starting lines in them, but couldnt find any. So I assume they are different.

Most of my sloka pdf files have been picked up from this site : http://sanskrit.gde.to/

You could try your luck there. And yes, do upload the pdf file if you do get it :-)

I have this , in various singer's voice. The best I like among all is the version by Ashit Desai... Now that is just my personal preference , does not mean one has sung better than other. Its a 20 mins Mahiman , ripping at 96 would still be large file. You really interested ? I can rip it and split in multiple files to upload here.

Hi Vivek,

I have this , in various singer's voice. The best I like among all is the version by Ashit Desai... Now that is just my personal preference , does not mean one has sung better than other. Its a 20 mins Mahiman , ripping at 96 would still be large file. You really interested ? I can rip it and split in multiple files to upload here.

Hi Jay, Whenever you can I would be interested in Asit Desai version.

Thanks.

Have you all heard the story of Pushpadant and how he went about writing this great stotra? If not, let me know I will share. smile1.gif

Can u please share it with us Chitz smile1.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif

The story goes like this. Gandharvaraaj Pushpadant, who had teeth like flower buds was very very intelligent.

Now in those days, the king of Kaashi used to have beautiful gardens in his palace where he had world's most beautiful flowers growing. To protect the gardens from thieves he had many many security guards guarding them. But as time went by, the guards and the king discovered that someone was stealing their flowers without their knowledge. They discovered of new theft every morning so the king increased the security in gardens and tried very hard to protect more flowers from being stolen. For months they couldnt catch the culprit behind it. Finally the king asked wise Brahmins in his city to help him catch the thief somehow. After consulting the Brahmins, the king took a step that no one had imagined. The next morning the guards caught the thief redhanded, very frustrated in the garden. It was none other than Pushpadant. They caught him and brought him in the castle in front of the king. The king was quite upset and was about to punish him of his wrongdoings. Pushpadant said to the king he was ready to accept any fine/punishment that he had for him but requested to king to tell him more about how he was able to catch him. The king asked him whether he knew what he was stepping onto in the garden at night while stealing. Pushpadant mentioned it was leaves that he was stepping on. King told him those werent ordinary leaves, it was the Bili leaves that had once been used for pooja of Lord Shiva linga in temple. Pushpadant confessed how he had forgotten his stotra for becoming invisible and not only that but he had forgotten all other knowledge he had at that time when he was on those leaves. He realized what power these leaves had when they had only touched the Shiva linga. He realized the eternal power of Lord Shiva and became his devotee right there. Thats when he decided to write this stotra we know as Shivmahimna stotra.

It is said there is no better stuti(prayer) than the Shivmahimna stotra in this world.

Actually this saying is part of the stotra itself. It is shlok # 35 that goes like this:

maheshaannaaparo devo mahimno naaparaa stutihi
aghoraannaaparo mantro naasti tatvam guro param

Translates to:

Mahesh se upar koi devta nahin hai.
Mahimna se upar koi stuti nahin hai.
Aghor ke upar koi mantra nahin hai.
Guru tatva se upar aur koi tatva nahin hai.

Shiv Taandav Stuti ... by Ashit Desai

RUDRASHTAK - the renowned saint Tulsidas, the author of Ramcharit Manas, has composed this wonderful prayer. It covers the entire range of Shivatva - Shivaness - of unmanifest and manifest Shiva. Once Shiva was angry with his devotee because he was irreverential to his master. Tulsidas spontaneously sung this hymn to pacify Shiva. One can immediately feel the soothing feeling leading to inner peace.

Rudraashtakam

1-Namaa miisha mishaana-nirvaana rupam
vibhum vyaapakam brahma-veda-svaroopam
nijam nirgunam nirvikalpam niriham
chidaakaasha maakaasha-vaasam bhaje ham

I bow to the Ruler of the Universe, whose very form is Liberation,
the omnipotent and all pervading Brahma, manifest as the Vedas.
I worship Shiva, shining in his own glory, without physical qualities,
Undifferentiated, desireless, all pervading sky of consciousness
and wearing the sky itself as His garment.

niraakaara monkaara-moolam turiiyam
giraa gnaana gotiita miisham giriisham
karaalam mahaa-kaala-kaalam krpaalam
gunaagaara samsara paaram nato ham

I bow to the supreme Lord who is the formless source of “OM”
The Self of All, transcending all conditions and states,
Beyond speech, understanding and sense perception,
Awe-full, but gracious, the ruler of Kailash,
Devourer of Death, the immortal abode of all virtues.

tushaa raadri-sankaasha-gauram gabhiram
manobhuta-koti prabha sri sariram
sphuran mauli-kallolini-charu-ganga
lasad-bhaala-balendu kanthe bhujangaa

I worship Shankara, whose form is white as the Himalyan snow,
Radiant with the beauty of countless Cupids,
Whose head sparkles with the Ganga
With crescent moon adorning his brow and snakes coiling his neck,

chalatkundalam bhru sunetram visalam
prasannaa-nanam nila-kantham dayaalam
mrgadhisa charmaambaram mundamaalam
priyam sankaram sarvanaatham bhajaami

The beloved Lord of All,
with shimmering pendants hanging from his ears,
Beautiful eyebrows and large eyes,
Full of Mercy with a cheerful countenance and a blue speck on his throat.

pracandam prakrstam pragalbham paresham
akhandam ajam bhaanukoti-prakaasam
trayah-shula-nirmulanam shula-paanim
bhaje ham bhavaani-patim bhaava-gamyam

I worship Shankara, Bhavani’s husband,
The fierce, exalted, luminous supreme Lord.
Indivisible, unborn and radiant with the glory of a million suns;
Who, holding a trident, tears out the root of the three-fold suffering,
And who is reached only through Love.

kalaatitata-kalyaana-kalpanta-kaari
sadaa sajjanaa-nanda-daataa purarih
chidaananda-sandoha-mohaapahaari
prasida praslda prabho manmathaarih

You who are without parts, ever blessed,
The cause of universal destruction at the end of each round of creation,
A source of perpetual delight to the pure of heart,
Slayer of the demon, Tripura, consciousness and bliss personified,
Dispeller of delusion…
Have mercy on me, foe of Lust.

na yaavad umaanaatha-paadaaravindam
bhajantiha loke parevaa naraanam
na taavat-sukham shaanti-santaapa-naasham
praslda prabho sarva bhutaa-dhivaasam

Oh Lord of Uma, so long as you are not worshipped
There is no happiness, peace or freedom from suffering
in this world or the next.
You who dwell in the hearts of all living beings,
and in whom all beings have their existence,
Have mercy on me, Lord.

na janaami yogam japam naiva pujam
nato ham sadaa sarvadaa sambhu tubhyam
jaraa janma-duhkhaugha taatapya maanam
prabho paahi apan-namaamisha shambho

I don’t know yoga, prayer or rituals,
But everywhere and at every moment, I bow to you, Shambhu!
Protect me my Lord, miserable and afflicted as I am
with the sufferings of birth, old-age and death.

rudrastakam idam proktam viprena haratosaye
ye pathanti nara bhaktya tesam sambhuh prasidati

This eightfold hymn of praise was sung by the Brahman to please Shankara.
Shambhu will be pleased with whomever heartfully recites it.

karpoora gauram karunaavataaram samsaara saaram bhujagendra haaram

He is white like camphor and the very incarnation of mercy and compassion,
The only good thing in this world, wearing a king cobra as a garland

sadaavasantam hridayaara vinde bhavam bhavaani sahitam namaami

It is always springtime in the lotus of His heart I bow down to Bhava (Shiva), as well as to Bhavani (Parvati) who accompanies Him

Shambho Sadaa Shiva!

Once again none other than my personal fav , when it comes to sanskrit and shlokas... Happy listening ...

There are several Shiva panchakshari stotras composed by various saints. This panchakshari stotra, composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, is based on the moolamantra of Lord Shiva "Namashivaya". Each stanza starts with one of the five syllables, na, ma, shi, va, and ya.

Nagendraharaya Trilochanaya
Bhasmangaragaya Maheshvaraya
Nityaya Shuddhaya Digambaraya
Tasmai Nakaraya Namah Shivaya .. 1

Salutations to Shiva, who wears the king of snakes as a garland, the three-eyed god, whose body is smeared with ashes, the great lord, the eternal and pure one, who wears the directions as his garment, and who is represented by the syllable ``na ''

Mandakini salila chandana charchitaya
Nandishvara pramathanatha Maheshvaraya
Mandarapushpa bahupushhpa supujitaya
Tasmai Makaraya Namah Shivaya .. 2

I bow to Shiva, who has been worshipped with water from the Ganga (Mandakini) and anointed with sandalwood paste, the lord of Nandi, the lord of the host of goblins and ghosts, the great lord, who is worshiped with Mandara and many other kinds of flowers, and who is represented by the syllable ``ma. ''

Shivaya Gauri vadanabjavrunda
Suryaya Dakshadhvara Nashakaya
Shrinilakanthaya Vrushhadhvajaya
Tasmai Shikaraya Namah Shivaya .. 3

Salutations to shiva, who is all-auspiciousness, who is the sun that causes the lotus face of Gauri (Parvati) to blossom, who is the destroyer of the yajna of Daksha, whose throat is blue (Nilakantha), whose flag bears the emblem of the bull, and who is represented by the syllable ``shi. ''

Vasishhtha kumbhodbhava gautamarya
Munindra devarchita shekharaya .
Chandrarkavaishvanara lochanaya
Tasmai Vakaraya Namah Shivaya .. 4

Vasishhtha, Agastya, Gautama, and other venerable sages, and Indra and other gods have worshipped the head of (Shiva's linga). I bow to that Shiva whose three eyes are the moon, sun and fire, and who is represented by the syllable ``va. ''

Yakshasvarupaya Jatadharaya

Divyaya Devaya Digambaraya
Tasmai Yakaraya Namah Shivaya .. 5

Heres what I found on the net for my search for Shiva PanchAksharam -- http://www.dlshq.org/download/download.htm
The site gives a brief description of all Hindu gods / goddesses alongwith meaning of various symbols and common mantras for them, including Shiva PanchAkharam.

Chitz post reminds me some nice Stotras By Jagatguru Shankracharye ji ...  Chitz Nirvana Shatakam is getting TAPE ripped .. mean while another excellent Stotras by Shankracharya ji smile1.gif

Pinakahastaya Sanatanaya
Divyaya Devaya Digambaraya
Tasmai Yakaraya Namah Shivaya .. 5

salutations to Shiva, who bears the form of a Yaksha, who has matted hair on his head, who bears the Pinaka bow in his hand, the primeval lord, the brilliant god, who is digambara (naked), and who is represented by the syllable ``ya. ''

Phalastuti

Panchaksharamidam Punyam Yah Pathechchhivasannidhau.
Shivalokamavapnoti Shivena Saha Modate.

Anyone who recites this sacred five-syllable mantra, (Namah Shivaya) near the Shiva (linga), attains the abode of Shiva and rejoices there with Shiva.

Hey you know kya ? I was totally unaware that Panjiri was of two kind... one the dry that we make during janmashtmi .. with dhana, kopru, sunth khas khas and sugar ... And the other one is a wet one like laddo one, they make in north india....

Well receipe is simple take whole dhana or if fine grounded one ... not the readymade you get in grocery store.. that is dhana - jeeru tongue.gif .... So take dhana and grind it... at kopra powder... dry or wet both ok .... add sunth , sugar and khas khas.... now dont ask me for quantity in terms of teaspoon or mesaurement..... tongue.gif I just do it adhoc...

QUOTE(visuja @ Jul 19 2005, 07:48 AM, ON THE GAYATRI MANTRA)
I understand the mantra has meanings at various 'levels' .. Could you enlighten us on a few of them ?  I can get it off the web.. but then your explanations are special !  tongue.gif

Vivek
*

I'm no Hithesh but I found a very interesting explanation of the Gayatri Mantra that appealed to my scientific side.
QUOTE(somewhere on the wonderful web)

The modern astrophysics and astronomy tell us that our Galaxy called Milky Way or Akash-Ganga contains approximately 100,000 million of stars. Each star is like our sun having its own planet system. We know  that the moon moves round the earth and the earth moves round the sun along with the moon. All
planets round the sun.

Each of the above bodies revolves round at its own axis as well. Our sun along with its family takes one round of the galactic centre in 22.5 crore years.

All galaxies including ours are moving away at a terrific velocity of 20,000 miles per second.
And now the alternative scientific meaning of the mantra step-by-step:

Om bhur bhuvah swah:

Bhur the earth, bhuvah the planets (solar family), swah the Galaxy. We observe that when an ordinary fan with a speed of 900 RPM (rotations Per minute) moves, it makes noise. Then, one can imagine, what great noise would be created when the galaxies move with a speed of 20,000 miles per second.

This is what this portion of the mantra explains that the sound produced due to the fast-moving earth, planets and galaxies is Om. The sound was heard during meditation by Rishi Vishvamitra, who mentioned it too their colleagues. All of them, then unanimously decided to call this sound Om the name of God, because this sound is available in all the three periods of time, hence it is set (permanent). Therefore, it was the first ever-revolutionary idea to identify formless God with a specific title (form) called upadhi. Until that time, everybody recognized God as formless and nobody was prepared to accept this new idea. In the Gita also, it is said, "Omiti ekaksharam Brahma", meaning that the name of the Supreme is Om, which contains only one syllable (8/12). This sound Om heard during samadhi was called by all the seers nada-Brahma a very great noise), but not a noise that is normally beyond a specific amplitude and limits of decibels suited to human hearing. Hence the rishis called this sound Udgith musical sound of the above, i.e., heaven. They also noticed that the infinite mass of galaxies moving with a velocity of 20,000 miles/second was generating a kinetic energy= 1/2MV2 and this was balancing the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence they named it Pranavah, which means the body (vapu) or storehouse of energy (prana).

Tat savitur varenyam:

Tat that (God), savitur the sun (star), varenyam worthy of bowing or respect. Once the form of a person along with the name is known to us, we may locate the specific person. Hence the two titles (upadhi) provide the solid ground to identify the formless God, Vishvamitra suggested. He told us that we could know (realize) the unknowable formless God through the known factors, viz., sound Om and light of suns (stars).

A mathematician can solve an equation x2+y2=4; if x=2; then y can be known and so on. An engineer can measure the width of a river even by standing at the riverbank just by drawing a triangle. So was the scientific method suggested by Vishvamitra in the mantra in the next portion as under: -

Bhargo devasya dheemahi:

Bhargo the light, devasya of the deity, dheemahi we should meditate. The Rishi instructs us to meditate upon the available form (light of suns) to discover the formless Creator (God). Also he wants us to do Japam of the word Om (this is understood in the Mantra). This is how the sage wants us to proceed, but there is a great problem to realize it, as the human mind is so shaky and restless that without the grace of the Supreme (Brahma) it cannot be controlled. Hence Vishvamitra suggests the way to pray Him as under:

Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat:

Dhiyo (intellect), yo (who), nah (we all), prachodayat (guide to right Direction). O God!  Deploy our intellect on the right path.
Full scientific interpretation of the Mantra:

The earth (bhur), the planets (bhuvah), and the galaxies (swah) are moving at a very great velocity, the sound produced is Om, (the name of formless God.) That God (tat), who manifests Himself in the form of light of suns (savitur) is worthy of bowing / respect (varenyam). We all, therefore, should meditate (dheemahi) upon the light (bhargo) of that deity (devasya) and also do chanting of Om. May He (yo) guide in right direction (prachodayat) our (nah) intellect dhiyo

So we notice that the important points hinted in the mantra are:-

1) The total kinetic energy generated by the movement galaxies acts as an umbrella and balances the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence it was named as the Pranavah (body of energy). This is equal to 1/2 mv2 (Mass of galaxies x velocity)

2) Realizing the great importance of the syllable OM, the other later date religions adopted this word with a slight change in accent, viz., amen and Ameen.

3) The God could be realized through the saguna (gross),
upasana (method), i.e.,

by chanting the name of the supreme as OM
      and
by meditating upon the light emitted by stars (suns).

Here's another wonderful rendition by Smt. M.S.Subbalakshmi. smile1.gif This time, a composition of Sri Jayadeva, taken from his famed work, the GITA GOVINDA, where he describes the Dasavatara of Lord Vishnu. Wonderfully rendered by M.S, as always thumbs-up.gif

Thanks Shyam.

Yesterday I went to Planet M for the same. But didnt find it. I tried to call u from there but your mobile was not reachable. The planet M guy said that there were no HARIHARAN version of Hanuman Chalisa. Instead he mentioned Hari Om Sharan. So I tried to reconfirm the same from u.

But it was worth going to Planet M yesterday bcz there I saw Anuksha Shankar on the floor releasing her new Grammy Nominated album.

Rgds,
Debu.

You are most welcome Debu Da wink2.gif Well, this particular version by Hariharan, is a very old one........ It was a T-Series release ages ago, when Hariharan wasn't as popular a singer in films. He had sung for some devotional albums for T-Series then. And another interesting point I would like to mention is, about an year or two back, I saw this cassette being played at a temple, and went and checked the cover for details, and surprisingly found that Hariharan's name didn't figure ANYWHERE on the cassette or its cover or the track details!!!!! blink.gif On the front cover, it was given - "Kalaakaar: Gulshan Kumar" (In Hindi)......

This got me into deep thought......... now there are two possibilities ...... ONE - T-Series didn't mention Hariharan's name, though he has sung it.
TWO - Gulshan Kumar possibly had a voice, exactly resembling Hariharan's, and has actually sung the whole album, and hence his name figured under the head of Kalaakar (Artiste).

Well, I've seen the videos for this album on TV, which had Gulshan Kumar acting as the singer for all the tracks..... But he has done it for almost all albums released during his time....... while singers like Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, Sonu Nigam etc. did the playback for the devotional albums. Hence I would say, that Hariharan was definitely the singer, though his name doesn't figure anywhere in the credits.... mellow.gif If you are looking for this album, try checking for Hanuman Albums by T-Series, you are sure to find it. thumbs-up.gif (And yes, make sure you don't search for albums by "HARIHARAN", instead search for ones by T-Series with "Gulshan Kumar" as the artiste biggrin.gif)

PS: Lucky you........ tongue.gif Got to see Anoushka Shankar on your visit to Planet M biggrin.gif

Namaste Parul,
Superb, excellent job.. Did you create the website out of the frustration of not being able to uplaod files here ? Well than , that was real quick...

Your site looks good , especially easy to navigate... You should list the singers.... I have all this and many shlokas in various singers voice.. Ashit Desai is one of my top fav... If its a version which I have not heard , and only that one I am interested.. it would save me as well as you from bandwidth and time.

Congrats...

Jai Haatkesh...

Namaste Jayji,

I did not create website just now, it was created last year. I was looking for Rudrabhishek in Gujarati and cannot find any where so I typed it and people in our temple start using it. I was looking for ShivMahapuran in mp3 and I found your site and just wants to share what I have but I was not able to upload mp3 files so I gave my site address, thats all.

PS:- I hope not to raise any issues of the Year of release again.....but seeing some uploads in the Classical section (Classical Fusion albums such as "Naina Pyaase" by Rashid Khan etc. - 2003 release)..I was only TOOO tempted to upload this wonderful Stotra......(Now.....if you say "Naina Pyaase" album...has songs of Amir Khusro etc.....Hence OLD creations...then.....This Stotra is written by NAARAD MUNI!!! laugh.gif wink2.gif) And I've uploaded it only to Aid you in getting the Stotra perfecty.......Hope No issues are raised again....God Forbid....if it happens....I'll have to delete the attachment...and PM it to all those who need it..... smile.gif

Meaning will be given in next post....as this has got too long....wink2.gif

Does anyone have mp3 file for this wonderful stotram?

Thank you.

Hey folks, let me make a BIG request here please:

Whoever uploads a shloak should also give its meaning (like Nimii is doing). Hopefully, line for line (and if necessary, the gist). Not only will that help us understand the full shloak, but also what each line means.

Is that a practical request? blab.gif
