Hello,
I just read one thread, regarding "Enforcement Of Id3 Tags In All Song Files".

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=77217

in that manish ji said
"...then later i can read a geet kosh or nerurkar data base book ..."
can anybody tell about this book?

"...i think your goal will be better accomplished if the electronic hindi film geet kosh is ever made public. then we'd have a universal standard reference to all songs. looking for "insaaf ka mandir hai yeh" ? that's song #234234 in the hindi film geet kosh online library. people can cross reference that number to the song and all the info associated with the number get linked. ....."

is that mean there is HFGK online?

Thank & Regards

yes yob.. we can do it.. i believe near about 5500 movies listed..

at least 5 movies per day * no. of member..
calculation is funny..
5500/5/50 = within 22 days?

OR

for 50 members say 100 movies database have to write with in 30(?)days = 4 movie per day.

Using a foss database like mysql would be a good idea.

Posted by: yogihit May 26 2010, 07:29 PM

cool.. u r right.. do u have any idea about migration the tables access to SQL is easy or hard

Posted by: hildebrand Jun 4 2010, 11:07 PM

Its better to go for excel I feel due to the nature of task requiring more collaboration.
Transforming can be done later.
Let me know once its ready. Will host it on one of the sites with a searchable feature.

There you go . It has about 70% of the movie listed from 60s and 70s. There may be some errors but most of the data came from HFGK.

I think it will be a good idea to make this initially on google docs by collaboration.
We can all add to it then. Once done it canbe hosted.

Anyone who'd like to contribute to it can contact me to get the link to share. (I don't want to share it publicly due to obvious reasons).
Once you have it you'll be able to view and edit it. No google login will be required for it.
Am sharing it with yogihit and yob whose addresses I have. Feel free to share with other interested music lovers.

I have requested a friend to help and hope for a favourable response. Will try to contribute for 40s and 50s together with the friend to begin with.

Thanks a lot Sangeet bhai for making the start. Hope we can complete the task soon.
I am PMing the link to you as well.

Posted by: hildebrand Jun 6 2010, 02:41 PM

I have added two columns to the shared document:-
1. Comments - Add any details of the song/movie which is important there.

2. Edited By - Add your name there so that we know who contributed. If you're editing someone else's entry just add your own name with a comma.

Feel free to update any errors in hfgk or some other extra information like film version etc which is known to you.

It maybe a good idea to add Sangeet ji's database for 80s to 2k , the years for which geet kosh is not available also to it. What do others think about this?

Posted by: Exon Jun 7 2010, 01:06 AM

Very good efforts by Yogihit, Sangeet and HB,

I would favor changing the title to something else for following reasons.

Let us combine the good things from several sources, including our own HF archive; instead of focusing on a single compilation.

Secondly, if we use the term digitalHFGK, there could be copyright issues to consider.

How about calling it Hamara Sangeet list?

Exon

Insert new rows as per requirement.

but still i feel..that record numbers may also be there
for every song..that is a must..which will help us to know the palti songs
on the records...and...also we will be able to know..wheather records are released
for a particular song/s or not.. (it is a sugetion)..

Yes, bobby bhai division will be useful. My suggestion is that we attack decade wise at our convenience. The order can be 50s, 40s, 60s, 70s and 30s.
If any member is interested in a particular year or movie, they are welcome to add that as well.

But as I suggested above,
do your own mental sorting while adding entries.

Add rows for songs, first in order of year and then in order of film. This will make the database easier to manage.

Hello All

I seem to be having a problem with making entries on the googledoc spread sheet. My computer hangs after every 2-3 entries and 'comes alive' after 3 - 4 minutes (a big waste of time)

Am not sure if this is specific to my computer (vistas) or if other members too face something similar?

I have downloaded the googledocs spread sheet to excel (the entries thus dont get updated online)

Hope the data from the excel sheet can be imported back to the master database? Some one please confirm

What happened to this? blink.gif

I think digitizing my Geetkosh into a PDF is a better solution. laugh.gif

Posted by: yogihit Sep 18 2010, 10:26 AM

sangeet ji
i am not getting you , about PDF version.
Initially my idea was, to create a database in MS Access or SQL. ( I think Access is easy to edit and creating DB)
and use VB.
and can filter out with any type (actors, MD, song name etc.) for search.
We can also provide a player to play the song while browsing database (songs will be in low bit rate )

I know this a long time project smile1.gif lets see how it will work.

Thanks a lot for keep this thread alive smile1.gif

Posted by: Sangeet Sep 18 2010, 11:10 PM

The idea is great but can be only achieved if people participate is my point. I saw only 2-3 fellows doing something and it has not been updated for a while.

I have decided to turn my existing Geetkosh hardbound books to a pdf and keep a digital copy for myself. The other idea is really time consuming and a moot point if no one participates.

Posted by: hildebrand Sep 19 2010, 04:41 PM

I had thought that doing it in a spreadsheet would be better since all can do it online. One need not have special resources/skills or proprietary software due to this reason. It is also possible to sort/filter in a spreadsheet. One doesn't need bigger solutions for this.
I had requested one of my friends Radhika ji to do it but due to some health issues since past few months she has not been able to update it for sometime.
I haven't been able to contribute for sometime due to lack of time. I hope to do so as and when I get time. Anyone interested is requested to please support the endeavour by editing it for us (and not just downloading the sheet).

Posted by: balajigade Sep 22 2010, 01:15 PM

Came across the thread a bit late. I had already done for the years 1951-'60 almost 3 years ago in a simple Access format. Couldn't continue for the years <'51 (due to lethargy).

Posted by: balajigade Sep 22 2010, 03:54 PM

It is on my home computer. I'll get it on mail today and upload late in the evening. It was made on Office 2000. I must check whether it is compatible to 2007 version (should be, latter being the higher one).

Eagerly waiting for the post.

Posted by: balajigade Sep 24 2010, 12:55 AM

Apologies for the delay...

There was a mix up while mailing the file to me from my home. The database was initially prepared for the years '51 to '59, latter on a copy of this was appended with the data of '60. Unfortunately my daughter back at home could not locate the updated version and sent me the unappended one. Anyway, I'm uploading this for the time being. I've made the database in simple Access format with some normal queries. There are quite a lot of spelling & punctuation mistakes (which I'm very particular about) and are yet to be corrected. Hope this will serve the purpose. Inviting some improvements and graphics from the geeks to make the database look more attractive.

Dhall Sahab,
This file will open only in MS Access (2003 or later). MS Access come with MS Word/ Excel/ PowerPoint bundle. You have to install it from Microsoft Office CD/DVD.

We are almost there for 1950 -1979. If someone takes the responsibility to type 1950/1960 and couple of missing films from 60s and 70s that I uploaded earlier. I almost finished adding lyricist information for my 1980- 2010 spreadsheet i uploaded earlier. I will share that once the above is done. Then we will have info from 1950 - 2010 ( pending 30s and 40s)

Thanks for the complements. Just appended the 60's. My database for '41-'50 is halfway through, may take a month or so to complete if I get time. I'm only interested in the '31-'40 and '61-'70. Can any one help me in this regard?

You must have 'Access' installed in your MS Office, preferably => 2003 version.

Balaji
your compiled data base is very good..
if you have made it from GK..than why didnt you add the record
numbers also???
although you have added all necessary information .. and to me
the record number too is a must..some can be aware of the palti songs
songs of one record..and also information of the song..whether it
was released on record or not...

All information in this database is contained in a single table. I have begun to merge Balajigade's 50s table with Sangeet's 60-70s.
In addition, I am also adding a few missing films from the 50s, 60s and 70. I thought it would be easier to work with a spreadsheet to input all information. Finally, we can break the sheet into individual tables and build a db. If any other member is working on the table please let us know; we can save time by avoiding duplication. These days, I don't get much free time. Therefore, the process is slow at my end.
