Urzung ji, once again really scared to make a promise as I haven't heard this tape for last five years which had 'hakim tarachand', is it same as
hakim tarachand zara kothe te aajaa rupaiye lay le panj zara kothe te aajaa hakim ji ne aakheya................ Very naughty number indeed , there was even reference to 'nang dhadang' I guess Anyways, if its the same then after my exams I'll search for the tape and see if it is O.K. after all these years. I feel really bad for not keep such stuff properly Anyhow that tape also has 'jeeve banra umaran saariyan' by Surinder Kaur which she sang witha great full-throated voice much better than Musarrat Nazir's version, except for that laughter of hers |

BTW, the original recording was by Umrao Zia Begum in mid 30s. jeeve banara is good one too. she could go full throat if the composition required it. |

I'll surly check out the tape, Urzung ji and Inaam, hope its O.K. , else I don't know where I'll get back these treasures from-the company concerned closed down many years ago. The first version was by Umrao Zia Begum is news, I'm sure of what I have heard of her she must have done agreat job. Hope the recording still exists or was it for Radio only.
'Jeeve banra' is also a nice number and as you said Urzung ji, she has done a great job there too. I have quite a few songs by Surinder Kaur, lets see what all can be digitalized and uploaded. |

I had the 78rpm disk before partition. This Lahore based company had issued a lot of private songs of UZB, Shamshad, Zeenat Begum and other singers. Some of these records are possessed by collectors but they do not give copies at any price. |

Yes, this one is an Ashaji song. And the one I remember from hearing in my childhood, was a traditionally sung song, in a much more Punjabi style.
Remember a couple of lines: 'Hakeem ji ne aakheya si sharab nahin peeni Main pi li botal band zara kothe te aa.' Hic. THE INTELLIGENT MUST MAKE CONCESSIONS! |
