Hi Everyone

I am Swaminathan, a humble fan of Rafi Sahab. You can check on my channel on YT also if you want.

While Rafi Sahab sang for all heros, side heros and even junior artists, there was a telepathy and a special relationship at least with two actors, Shammi Kappor and Badruddin Qazi i.e. Johnny Walker.

These two actors , in my humble view , also did full justice to the genuis of Rafi Sahab.

I've managed to collect over 100 songs by Rafi Sahab filmed on Johnny Walker, which I'll try to upload.

Hope all fans of Rafi Sahab & Music lovers like it

The first post is

Song : Dekh Idhar Ae Haseena

Film : 12'o Clock
Year 1957
Lyrics : Majrooh Sultanpuri
Music Director : O.P.Nayyar

Hi All

Continuing with the uploads of Rafi Sahab songs filmed on Johnny Walker

(Actually I'm down with cold and flu and catching up on lost time in HF)

Some background about Johnny Walker

While issuing tickets as a B.E.S.T. bus conductor, Badruddin Jamaludin Kazi used to entertain passengers aboard with some antics. These antics caught the attention of actor and script-writer Balraj Sahni in 1950 while he was once traveling in a B.E.S.T. bus on which Badruddin, then 27, was working as a conductor. Sahni was penning at that time the script for the movie, Baazi (1951), and introduced Badruddin to Guru Dutt as a candidate for the role of a comedian. Badruddin's screen test consisted of acting as a drunk, and he did it so well that Guru Dutt gave him the screen name, "Johnny Walker", after the famous Scotch whisky brand. (Walker was always a teetotaler like Rafi Sahab, though the combination gave us some of the best sharabi numbers.)

I'd finished Alphabet A, but left out Aji Bus Shukriya due to space limitations. I'll try to cover B

(Actually, there is another duet of Rafi Sahab & Asha, Kadki tera naam Ladki, but am not sure whether it is filmed on Johnny Walker). If some member can clarify, I'll be too glad to upload it.

Music Director : S.D.Burman

Hi All

Due to the limitation of 20 MB per post, the posts are getting extended.

Johnny Walker had a close friendship with Guru Dutt, who would often change scripts of his movies to accommodate a role for Johnny. The untimely death of Guru Dutt in 1964 deeply impacted him.
During the 1970s through the '90s, he had a few small roles in movies. His role in Anand showed that he could excel in a serious role even if it was for only a few minutes. His last performance was in actor/director Kamal Hasan's Chachi 420 in 1998; he had performed at the request of musician/director/writer Gulzar who had scripted that movie.

Thanks Venkat, Suresh and Seshadri for your kind comments and Hausla Afzhai.

(Well Venkat, I'm a Tamilian, but born and brought up in Gwalior, Delhi, and got a job in Gujarat, and now posted at Delhi/Gurgaon, so not the sambar kind (kidding). Anyway Rafi sahab belongs to the entire world and thus one can not be parochial. And while ferreting the net for numbers of Rafi Sahab, I was pleasently surprised to see him voted as number one in a Chennai forum, ahead of South Indian singers!)

When I started with alphabet C, One movie alone, where Johnny bhai played the hero had wonderful songs enough for one post i.e. Choo Mantar, with wonderful compositions by O P Nayyar ji. (There was another movie where Badruddin was cast as a hero, later, aptly named Johnny Walker!

So here I go with songs of Choo Mantar

Hi All

Continuing with the songs of Rafi sahab filmed on Johnny Walker, you would have noticed (as all die hard fans of Rafi Sahab know), that the combo is beyond Yeh hai Bombay meri jaan or Sar jo tera chakraye. What used to make it special was nuances by Rafi Sahab, which were wonderfully enacted by Johnny bhai on stage.

So planning to finish the films with Alphabet D and E

1. Song : To hi meri Laxmi, Tu hi meri chhaya ...... oh laxmi chhaya
Film : Duniya
Year : 1968
Singer : Rafi Sahab
Lyrics : Hasrat Jaipuri
Music Director : Shankar Jaikishen
Duration : 4.00 min

2. Song : Tumse Dil Kya Lagaya gaye kaam se ... Hichki aane lagi ishq ke naam se
Film : Duniya Rang Rangeli
Year : 1957
Singer : Rafi Sahab
Lyrics : Jaan Nisar Akhtar
Music Director : O P Nayyar
Duration : 3.29 min

3. Song : Tujhko na koi gam
Film : Duniya Rang Rangeli
Year : 1957
Singers : Rafi Sahab & Asha Bhosle
Lyrics : Jaan Nisar Akhtar
Music Director : O P Nayyar
Duration : 4.00 min

4. Song : Tirchi nazar se yun na dekh (what a song)
Film : Ek Phool Chaar Kaante
Year : 1960
Singer : Rafi Sahab
Lyrics : ? (Shailendra or Hasrat Jaipuri)
Music Director : Shankar Jaikishen
Duration : 3.47 min

5. Song : Dil to kisi ko doge kisi ki aakhir hoge
Film : Ek Saal
Year : 1957
Singer : Rafi Sahab
Lyrics : Prem Dhawan
Music Director : Ravi
Duration : 3.14 min

That finishes alphabet D and E from my side.

Pl revert in case of any omissions

Thanks and Regards
