In the Tirol district lies the Grossglockner-Hochalpenstrasse, also known as the Grossglocknerstrasse, which is an alpine toll-road that bisects the Austrian Nationalpark Hohe Tauern from north to south. Grossglockner is a "must-visit" experience recommended to all scenery lovers.

View of Grossglockner (3798 m), tallest mountain in Austria, and the Pasterzenkees, longest glacier in eastern Europe.

Guarding the impressive north face of the Grossglockner is the Pasterze glacier which is 10 km long, 300 m deep, and has a surface area of 20 sq. km

Pasterzenkees can be accessed by a class 1 trail (i.e., loose footing) or via a funicular rail which descends 143 m. At the end of the hike, the surface and the terminal talus of the Pasterzenkees are easily reachable. The glacier is very stable and walking unroped on it is fairly safe.

Lata, those are great pics. I remember seeing something similar in a James Bond movie but these are so much better to look at than in a movie. Personal pics give better feeling.
Would love to hear that Austrian music clip you mentioned. Upload it when you have time. Thx. |

Myawan! Why is the govt not doing anything about ? Travel and Tourism can bring so much income to the country Here in India, the local governments have realized that they can strike gold with the tourism and things are improving in accommodation and even the restoration of old monuments are in full swing. Heritage in Mumbai is doing a lot good in that aspect. Another state where travel and tourism has surged forward and excellent services provided is Kerala. Wish all countries would make travelling better too! Life is not the same again like before visas, ticketing oh god makes a genuine traveller's life harrowing N |

Well, sorry to say but it is fact that it is because of the governments that we are one of the third world countries. Otherwise God has given us (both Pakistan and India) everything which an advanced country needs.

Here are some photos of Austria. If you observe the 3rd photo, the big house in the middle of the forest was the Von Trapp family house in the movie The Sound of Music.
