Thanks cinemaniac2 for starting this thread.
We all know that Laxmikant of L-P walked, talked and spoke like Jaikishan since he was such a big fan of his. L-P's music was modelled on the S-J style, with the prominent violin interludes being one aspect, and they also used a big orchestra similar to S-J. K-A were also known to be fans of S-J and their compositions also had an S-J touch to them. Early in their career, Raj Kapoor even called them "imitators" of S-J. But one composer who is not talked about alot with regards to being a fan of S-J, is a composer who set a new trend, who brough about different innovations in film music, who was a master at the fusion of western and indian music, who carved a place for himself as amongst the very best composers that Indian Cinema has ever seen. This person is none other than the peerless Rahul Dev Burman. Pancham has stated in many of his interviews that though his father was his mentor and his idol, his biggest idols were Shankar Jaikishan. He used to admire them for many reasons, one of them being their ability to consistently give out hit after hit. He also mentioned in one of his interviews that he considered the score of 'Rajkumar' by SJ (1964) as one of the best ever because of the amount of variety it had. Cheers Prince Ali |

Jaikishan was one of the few composers along with Naushad, Salil C. and RDB to give importance to background music in films. In fact, IMO he was the greatest background composer ever. He used to compose background tunes in a matter of seconds by just seeing the film scene infront of him. Jai also used to create future tunes out of his background music. Some examples being:
The tune of "O basanti pawan paagal" from 'Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behte Hai' is played a number of times in the background for the movie 'Awara'. Again in 'Awara', the tune for "Aaja ki intezar mein" from 'Halaku' is used in the background. In the movie 'Sangam' you can hear the tune of "Dil ke jharokhe mein tujhko" from 'Brahmchari' used in the background. The tune for the mukda of Rafi saab's song from 'Bhai Bhai' "Ek tera sundar mukda" is played on the sitar in the background of the movie 'Amrapali'. The tune for "Bhor bhaye pangat pe" from Satyam Shivam Sundaram by L-P is played on the sitar in the background of the movie 'Kanyadan'. An important thing to keep in mind is that though Jai did most of the background composing, it does not necessarily mean that the whole song that was created from those background tunes were his. My uncle happend to meet Shankar in 1975 and he said that a beginning tune does not make the whole complete song. It is a start but you need a lot more details in order to complete a song. For example, if Jai would come up with an idea, either himself or Shankar would create a song from there. Prince Ali |

I think its Mubarak Begum for sure and the other prominent voice could be a male voice of Shankar Shamboo Qawal (private qawalli singer). His son had recently produced a good songs/qawalli album under T-Series, I am not able to recollect his name now. Mohd. |
