Dear Rafians
I've compiled Rafi sahab's complete Hindi filmography by acquiring information from various sources. The process was very time consuming (it took more than a year) and it wasn't easy since I didn't even have the Geet Kosh or any other book reference such as Mr. Saleem-ul-Haq's book. But as they say, passion takes you to a whole another level and it was this passion n love for Rafi sahab that helped me complete this list.
I'm posting it here for my fellow Rafians, who like me, don't have the sources and references.

None of the sources like earthmusic, ultraindia, Rafi sahab's song database had complete/correct information about Rafi sahab's songs. I understand that there may be many errors so corrections, suggestions and any additional info is welcome.

I'd like to thank Flex and Sangeetji who helped me in a big way!

P S: Please note that this is just a database of Rafi sahab's songs. I don't have all of the listed songs in my library. Please direct your requests to my wish list thread. If I have the song I'll be happy to share.

Dear Rafians
I've compiled Rafi sahab's complete Hindi filmography by acquiring information from various sources. Hi Anumpama ji

Please accept my compliments for this herculean effort.

Mera kaam bahut aasan ho gaya. (I've got the list on a platter now. I was slogging away alphabet wise, putting in late hours or early in the morning, and I wake up to find it on a platter!)

A few points :

-Wikepedia has given a figure of 4500 old filmi plus 400 odd ghair filmi numbers. Your list already has 4600 plus.
-The figures/claims of 28000 are ridiculous. This for Rafi Sahab (or Lataji) would have translated to around 3 recordings a day, which is humanly impossible.
- In the YT fraternity (and some other places), some people have bragged about a collection of upto 7000. I think even this figure is way off the mark.
-The approximation I think would be around 5500 (filmi and ghair filmi/other languages together) plus maybe 2-3% lost songs (like his early Punjabi numbers maybe). Id like your and other members take on this.
-Like you said, there is no database. It is a pity that Mohdrafi.com or any other website does not do justice, say unlike what Parag does for Geeta Dutt website. (Having said that it is easier to be an armchair critic, a website given the sheer magnitude of Rafi Sahab's songs would be really difficult, as moderating managing any website is). The point I'm making is that there seems to be no one with the zeal of Parag to start this website.
-The consolation is fans like you and many others in HF/YT, who have painstakingly built up a collection, a database, and now have the magnanimity to share it with all other Rafi Bhakts

Thanks and Regards

Swaminathan

The Lyricist is Prem Dhawan, and Music Director is SN Tripathi.

Source is YT download, bitrate 128 kbps, format MP3

Looking forward to upload of the other songs

Hi Anupamaji

I was indexing the alpha D (with the help of your master list).

As per my collection of the YT downloads, there are two versions of the Humne Suna Tha Ek hai bharat song from the film Didi. (In fact the first one, the trio number ends in the video, with Sunil Dutt, a teacher ending the song in middle due to summons by the peon, and the video of the second one has him completing the song, in a different tune).

So please check out your collection the last para is "Sadiyon ki bhook aur bekari kya ek din mein...". The last para is a 50 sec clip, solo by Rafi Sahab.

In case it is not in your collection, please get back, I can upload the small clip, and at least technically it will be another version.

Same kind of an issue with another song from Do Bhai

The second version starts with

Jis Dharam Mein tu khoya hua hai

Both the versions put together, the song is 5.55 min, the second version being 1.48 min

Again, as per the video, the situation of both stanzas are different, the first one with titles, the second being Ashok Kumar with his slumped brother in the car

I guess it too can be or rather should be counted as two versions.

Pl Get back on these two

Swaminathan

The point I'm making is that there seems to be no one with the zeal of Parag to start this website.
-The consolation is fans like you and many others in HF/YT, who have painstakingly built up a collection, a database, and now have the magnanimity to share it with all other Rafi Bhakts

Thanks and Regards

Swaminathan

Swaminathanji, glad that I was of some help to you.
We could spend years debating over how many songs Rafi sahab has sang in his lifetime and we still won't reach a conclusion. Even thirty years after his demise, we are still discovering his precious songs, just like Sorry Madam's songs which were released this year. I too know of a few people who brag about having over 14,000 songs of Rafi sahab, which seems unlikely. After counting several versions of different songs, my count still won't go over 8,000 (filmi+non-filmi+pvts+regional+live).

This list will be further enriched if people come forth with their input (corrections n additions).

Hi R&D

The list is a searchable one, and excel file as an attachment. The image is just an add on. So please download the excel and go ahead with additions/corrections.

I want the html to be searchable like a wiki and not everyone downloading and doing their own thing
with the list.

Okay. I think that more tech savvy members can work out something in this regard. I agree that a wiki kind of a search would be great!!!

Regards

Swaminathan

Regards

Swaminathan

Swaminathanji, I am aware of these parts and I have all of em. If you listen to the first part of Humne Suna Tha Ek Hai Bharat closely, you will see that it ends in "Sadiyon Ki Bhookh Aur Bekaari Kya Ek Din Mein Jaayegi" and the second part starts off with the same line. I consider it as a continuation of the same song.

Do Bhai's song - Iss Duniya Mein has three parts in the movie.
The third part plays after Ashok Kumar dies in the movie.
Tujhse Ho Jaaye Na Kuchh Buraai
Tu Bhala Hai Bura Hai Zamaana.......

I have the vinyl version of the song, which contains all the three parts and is 6:28 in duration. That is why I feel it is one song. A lot of movies have the same issue. I'm not counting the album versions n film versions in this list, though I have made a list of song versions for my personal reference.

Hi Anupamaji

Your mail box would prob be full after the list I guess.

I see that you are not being greedy (unlike me) and not treating them as seperate versions.

I just wanted to cross check just in case they were missing at your end.

Please tell me if it is okay to raise these silly doubts while am updating my index through your master list (bcos may tend to forget later). You can reply at leisure.

Now the debate about number of songs of Rafi Sahab I guess is the proverbial Pandora's box. My own guesstimates was around 6000 (all put together), with your guesstimate of 8000, the goal post changes.

Once again thanks for the list. My two cents was the Waman Avtar song.

Will be on the lookout for the remaining numbers like a bloodhound on a trail.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Anupamaji

No you did not get it wrong, I was just mentioning that I was being greedy in naming the versions, I think the album version should be the final, one can keep a seperate version list like you did.

Now I think you would be thrilled by this addition bcos it is not on your list (unless a typo). And am reasonably sure about the film name, as I got this from one of the MP3 sites (Smashhits as far as I recollect).

Here We go

Song :Ranjha jaan ke sharabi
Film : Do Sholey
Year : 1976
Singers : Rafi Sahab & Dilraj Kaur
Lyrics : Saraswati Kumar
Music Director : Sonik Omi

Duration : 2.55 min bitrate 128 kps

Anu,

My info came from HF archive.
I meant to say it could be one of the three parts of 'mohabbat zinda rehati hai' from Changeez Khan. I have two parts of the song; missing one of the parts. One of my audio ends with 'chalee aa'. I notice, the audio you uploaded starts with 'chalee aa' I am not too sure; but i am suspecting that this audio could be one of missing parts of Chnageez Khan song.

A small correction to Song entry #479:

Badla aur Balidaan (1980)

jeth ki tapti dupahariyaa mein ..., ,
tu ne roop churaaya goriye

Singers are Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosle, chorus.

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=9455&view=findpost&p=76982

Listening to the song again, it sounds like a title song. I can think of two rare movies from that period with Mohabbat title: Mohabbat aur Jung (1967) and Mohabbat ki jeet (1960). Wonder if it could be from one of these two.

Hi Anupamaji

While indexing (I am indexing on Mywan's list improvised by Seshadri, with a lot of copy paste from your list to ferret out the missing numbers) I noticed that the Rafi Sahab solo "Kya Haseenon ka dil nahin hota" from College Girl (old shammi kapoor Shankar Jaikishen) was missing from your list.

Guess it might be an omission. Else get back, I can upload the YT download that I have

Hi Anupamaji,

Similary, while indexing D for a request upload tommorow, I noticed that "Dekh Liya Maine kismat ka tamasha dekh liya" from the classic Deedar is missing from your list, a possible oversight.

More importantly, Bachpan Ke din bhola na dena also has a rarer duet version with Shamshad Begum, which I got from YT.

You can check out and carry out the corrections. Needless to add if by chance you do not have it, it would be my privilege to upload it.

Exon, I seriously doubt that this could be from Changhez Khan. Rafi's tonal quality in this song seems to be from the late 60s. Moreover, it seems like Naushad's music to me.

Aditya

I agree with you Aditya, I too have serious doubts of it belonging to Changiz Khan. I think, I got the lead from following post.

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=9455&view=findpost&p=76982

Listening to the song again, it sounds like a title song. I can think of two rare movies from that period with Mohabbat title: Mohabbat aur Jung (1967) and Mohabbat ki jeet (1960). Wonder if it could be from one of these two.

Exon

Exon n Aditya, some kind soul from HF just informed me that this song is from an uncompleted movie called Changez Khan 1965, which due to problems with funds failed to be completed.
I thank this fellow member for the valuable information. This song has been in my collection for many years but I had no clue as to what movie it was from!

Now I think you would be thrilled by this addition bcos it is not on your list (unless a typo). And am reasonably sure about the film name, as I got this from one of the MP3 sites (Smashhits as far as I recollect).

Here We go

Song :Ranjha jaan ke sharabi
Film : Do Sholey
Year : 1976
Singers : Rafi Sahab & Dilraj Kaur
Lyrics : Saraswati Kumar
Music Director : Sonik Omi

Duration : 2.55 min bitrate 128 kps

Swaminathanji, Wow! Great find! clap1.gif
I have the songs you mentioned in my collection but overlooked em while making the list. Thanks a lot for going thru the list so closely. I'm sure I have overlooked many others.
I'm gonna add them promptly.
Thanks n Regards!

This is also listed. Please see 1409.

Thanks once again Rajnishji for your much appreciated input.

I have two version of this song. It seems the film version has
an intro with Asha Bhosle while the second version seems to be solo.
It was originally uploaded by bobbyji without any info until you posted
your list.

Now I just need your punjabi list because I have some unknown songs.

Rajnishji, I also have the same two versions.
As of now, I'm still working on the Punjabi list as well as other languages and his private songs. Please gimme the list of the unknown Punjabi songs that you have. If I know about the movie names of the songs, I'll be happy to help.

Here is my list of punjabi songs. It may help you in some way.
It was really hard to find year and md info for most of them.

Rajnishji, thanks for uploading the list. I'll thoroughly check it and get back to you on this.

Hi Anupamaji

Thanks for your research (about Changhez khan song, Punjabi songs etc)

I guessed Deedar songs etc would be through oversight. But the flip side is that now there are 4-5 additions to your list

Since I was updating myawan's orginal list of C and D, I could go through it song by song. (So far I have avoided the temptation to simply use your list instead, maybe my paitence could run out by say alphabet
S!)

Once again thanks for your sustained herculean efforts

Is this confirmed? Quite a coincidence that Hansraj Behl was the MD of Changhez Khan in 1957, and was asked to compose for a film with the same name a few years later. Not that it is impossible, but seems like too much of a coincidence.

Hi Anupamaji

While indexing the letter e (i.e. cross comparing the myawaan list with your master list) I found “Din Pyaar ke” a Rafi Sahab/Geeta Dutt(possibly) duet from Ek Ke Baad Ek. The video stills look to be from the same movie in my YT download. This is missing from your master list.

Chandni raat mein yun dil ko is from “Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati” which has got into “Ek Musafir Ek Haseena” I think.

Can you or someone else re-confirm the lyricist of “Dil ka soona Saaj” from “Ek Nari Do Roop”. Asad Bhopali seems to be spot on, but I’ve seen a different lyricist at some other site. I’m finicky about this, as the song seems to have been penned for Rafi Sahab. Incidentally, the MD, Ganesh is Ganesh Sharma, the younger brother of Pyarelal Sharma of LP fame. (I was told this by one of the regular YT uploaders, vintagememories)

There is one duet missing from missing “Ek Sapera Ek Lutera”. The details are
Song : “Aate Jaate roke mujhe (title song)
Singers : Rafi Sahab and Suman Kalyanpur
Lyrics : Asad Bhopali, Music Director : Usha Khanna
Duration : 6.10 min, Source YT, MP3 bitrate 128

Since am pukka about the details, and it is relatively rare compared to the other numbers of the film, am taking the liberty to upload it.

Am thru with E, will take up F tomorrow

Thanks and Regards

Swaminathan

Anupama Ji,

Congratulations on this gigantic exercise!! You deserve the highest appreciation.

You have arrived at the figure of about 4700 songs. Am I right?

Salim-ul-Haq too has arrived at somewhat the same figure!!!

There is another thing that should be interesting!! Rafi Saab had sung for about 2015 films in all!!!

This must be a world record by any reckoning!!!!

Hats off, Rafi Saab!!! He was born to live as long as Sun and Moon live!!!!

I think that Asha Bhosle would have sung for more no. of films. Need to check the data, though. I have her songs from 1740 Hindi films, and that covers less than 50% of all film songs sung by her. And I'm not even counting her regional film songs.

Aditya

Posted by: venkat Jun 15 2010, 12:34 PM

You could be right, Aditya!!! Asha Bhosle has always been a Chupa Rustom!!!

But, Rafi Saab's 2015 Hindi films (not including his regional films) until only 1980 must be a record!!!I would like to see Asha's number until 1980. Mind you, both have entered the industry at the same time , plus or minus 5 to 6 very lean years!!!

Hi Anupamaji

While indexing the letter e (i.e. cross comparing the myawaan list with your master list) I found €œDin Pyaar ke€ a Rafi Sahab/Geeta Dutt(possibly) duet from Ek Ke Baad Ek. The video stills look to be from the same movie in my YT download. This is missing from your master list.

Chandni raat mein yun dil ko is from €œEk Shriman Ek Shrimati€ which has got into €œEk Musafir Ek Haseena€ I think.

Can you or someone else re-confirm the lyricist of €œDil ka soona Saaj€ from €œEk Nari Do Roop€. Asad Bhopali seems to be spot on, but I€™ve seen a different lyricist at some other site. I€™m finicky about this, as the song seems to have been penned for Rafi Sahab. Incidentally, the MD, Ganesh is Ganesh Sharma, the younger brother of Pyarelal Sharma of LP fame. (I was told this by one of the regular YT uploaders, vintagememories)

There is one duet missing from missing €œEk Sapera Ek Lutera€. The details are
Song : €œAate Jaate roke mujhe (title song)
Singers : Rafi Sahab and Suman Kalyanpur
Lyrics : Asad Bhopali, Music Director : Usha Khanna
Duration : 6.10 min, Source YT, MP3 bitrate 128

Since am pukka about the details, and it is relatively rare compared to the other numbers of the film, am taking the liberty to upload it.

Am thru with E, will take up F tomorrow

Thanks and Regards

Swaminathan

While we review films starting with E, a song from an unreleased film, Ek Bulbula Paani Ka (1970s unreleased) is listed in ISB.

If any member has the following song, please upload it.

MD was Hansraj Behl!

Is this confirmed? Quite a coincidence that Hansraj Behl was the MD of Changhez Khan in 1957, and was asked to compose for a film with the same name a few years later. Not that it is impossible, but seems like too much of a coincidence.

Aditya

Aditya, that is what I was told. We need an expert's knowledge to confirm the film name, MD n lyricist. I haven't tagged my file yet. I'll keep this in mind n seek more info regarding this matter!

Swaminathanji, thanks for pointing out the error for the Ek Musafir Ek Haseena song mix-up.

Din Pyaar Ke from Ek Ke Baad Ek is a part of Aao Yaaro Aao Pyaaro Dekho Khel Niraala. I just checked the song video on YT and found that the song's been split into two parts (two diff videos). I have the complete song video. Let me know if you want it.

Asad Bhopali is indeed the lyricist of Dil Ka Soona Saaz from Ek Naari Do Roop, as per my knowledge. What lyricist did the other site mention?
Friends with Saleem-Ul-Haq's book, please check who the lyricist is! Many thanks!

Swaminathanji, thanks for this find. I mistakenly left out Ek Sapera Ek Lootera (title song) from my list. I've found quite a number of songs also missing from the filmography list. I'll add em as well.

Venkat

Venkatji, thanks for your kind appreciation.
I see you on this page as I'm writing this 2 you. Good 2 see you around! smile.gif

Last year while organizing my song library, I came across many songs with missing or incorrect information.
I had to consult many sources, such as my collection of CDs, VCDS, VHSs, DVDs n of course, the internet n friends. Because my Rafi sahab folder had 10,000 + songs (including CD versions, film versions, vinyl n doubles), I couldn't arrive at the correct figure of how many actual songs of Rafi Sahab I already had and how many I was missing.
It then struck me to compile Rafi sahab's Hindi filmography list. The list helped me organize my collection and I am glad it is now helping others as well.

Hi Anumpama ji

There is a small 27 sec clip at the end of the movie Gehra Daag “Dil Mein Basa lo pyar ka gehra daag” which I got from Bharatlover or YT. It is not there in the list. This I think is distinctly different from the other songs. Pl revert at your leisure.

The song from Ghar Ghar Ki Baat has been recently uploaded by Amitajai recently and it is tagged as Mahendra Kapoor by him. It sounds as Mahendra Kapoor only. Can u have a look. The url is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgF5Z4kEoLM&playnext_from=TL&videos=mDRCeS_2CQY

There is another song, “gayeja gayeja… bhulja apne geet” from the film “Ghunghat” year 1946. The singers are Rafi Sahab and Nirmala Devi. I got it from YT, and can upload it if it is not an omission. (Thru with G with a toothcomb).

Hi Anumpama ji

The song “Zindagi naam hai waqt ki maar ka”(no 1704 and 1704) is tagged with me as from the film Hathyara. Earthmusic also gave the same search.

Similarly, is the song “jo ishq ke aag mein jalte hain (No 1709) different from “Doosron ke waste” (No 1710) from film Hatim Tai? I have a 1.18 min clip of Jo ishq ki aag mein, which does not have the words doosron ke waste (which I do not have). I presume it is a sad version of the same song.

A small 44 sec snippet “ Hum lekar tere ishq ka” is missing from film Heer by Anil Biswas in your list. Am sure about the song and film. If needed can upload.

Is the title song of “Holiday in Bombay” (Yeh haseen bambai hamko to jam gayi) Rafi Sahab or Mahendra Kappor (earthmusic mentions as Mahendra, but it sounds very close to Rafi Sahab, the ultimate compliment to Mahendra Kapoor I guess). Can you or someone else confirm please?

One last thing. Your wishlist had “Ui Tillo Timati Aankhein Teri Humein” from the film “Paagal Premi (unreleased). You later showed it as since uploaded, but I missed the post (even on rechecking). While doing the letter H, I found that I have it tagged under “Hum Paagal Premi”. Can you please clarify, and confirm. If it has not been uploaded and was mistakenly marked off, it would be my privilege to upload the same.

Lastly, the mast number "Aare kismat ka sitara chamka... hamen diya dene wale ne sab kuch chappar phad ke by Rafi Sahab & chitalkar from the film "Hungama" is also missing from your list.

Thanks and Regards

Swaminathan

Hi Anumpama ji

The song “ Sab kuch luta ke hosh mein aaye to kya hua” from a Bengali Film “Indrani” is not in your list, presumably as it is from a Bangla film albeit a Hindi Song . (Like “Kehti hai mujkho duniya deewana nashe mein hai” from the Bangla film Khelaghar).

The Song “Rookhi Sookhi mein kha loongi, paas bula le more raja” from Film Insaaf, Yr 1946 by Rafi Sahab and Hamida Banu is also missing from the list. Am taking the liberty to upload it, as it is a rare number. (Lyrics are by D N Madhok & Music Director is Hari Prasanna Das, source net, duration 2.32 min, bitrate 128)

A small typo, the music director of Ishwar Bhakti (1951) is Sonik-Girdhar as per my tag.

Last one in I, a song, “Yeh Jawan Jawan Mohabbat” is left out in the list from the film “Isi Ka Naam Duniya hai”. Am uploading the same. (Lyrics are by S H Bihari & Music Director is Ravi, source net, duration 4.19 min, bitrate 128)

Thanks and Regards

Thanks and Regards

Dear Exon

The two songs that you mentioned of "Gangu Dada" (yeh gora gora mukhda and ek nazar teri) have been tagged as "Gangu" (1471 and 1472) by Anuji in her master list . Even I had them tagged as Gangu Dada. Can someone please clarify the correct film names.

Also Chandi Pooja has been tagged as Chaandi Pooja. (No 812). I think the correct tag would be Chandi Pooja

Regards

Swaminathan

These two songs are from Gangu, not from Gangu Dada. The same issue was raised when I uploaded the video songs from this movie on youtube a few months ago.

Hi Anupamaji

I'm plain lucky that when I was closing on to 4000 in our eternal quest for Rafi Sahab's gems, your list came as manna from heaven.

However, I decided to stick to the original myawan (improvised by Seshadri) list just to cross check and double check. Thus as you might have noticed, I'd copy/pasting your numbers in the list, and thus in the process am being able to check film by film, song by song.

I should have searched with the words of the songs for Sangeeta song (which had been wrongly tagged by me) and Justice "Rookhi Sookhi mein kahugi. Anyway nice that now all are in place.

It is my pleasure to upload the Heer and Hum Pagal Premi numbers.

Film : Heer, Year 1956
Song : Hum leke terey ishq ka ( a small couplet, I got only this much from net, not sure if full song)
Singer : Rafi Sahab , Lyrics : ? Music Director : Anil Biswas
(He was perhaps the only md who did not use Rafi (like opn for Lata) , but I guess he was left with no choice for a movie based on Heer's!)
Duration : 0.44 min, MP3, Bitrate : 128 kbps , Source Net

Film : Hum Pagal Premi (Unreleased) { or is it just Pagal Premi?)
Song : Ui Tillo Timati Aankhein Teri Humein
Singers : Rafi Sahab & Asha Bhosle, Lyrics : Hasrat Jaipuri, Music : Anu Malik
(Another Father & Son combination for whom Rafi Sahab sang)
Duration : 5.55 min, MP3, Bitrate : 128 kbps, Source : Net

And Anupamaji, it is no bother uploading, not to mention that I need the upload points quite badly, given the great responses to requests and uploads in HF.

My mail id is snrcag@yahoo.co.in

Thanks a million for everything again

Hi Anumpama ji

This is regarding films with letter J.

There seems to be another song from Jahan Sati Wahan Bhagwan “Kitni dukh bhari hai “ which is not included in your list but were tagged in my list (I do not have it)

Btw the other song from Jahan Sati Wahan Bhagwan i.e. Yug Yug se geet gaaye is the title song I presume. (Much as I adore Rafi Sahab, get creeps with all these Sati titles)

Similarly there is another song Sanwaare Sabke Bigde from Jailor which is tagged in my list (the list I got from Seshadri ji, who had improvised on the original myawan list)

There is a small 1.14 min clip from the film Jailor “Chale Hawa Jab” which I got from YT. The same has been omitted from your list (though not 100% sure about the film)

There appears to be another song in Jallad, “Dil ke Phapole jal uthe” (of course only a small opening by Rafi Sahab and then the song is I think by Asha Bhosle). I seem to have got it from Dr Surjit Singh’s site as the tag is Jallada.

There is a Chup jao gagan ke tare in the film Jalpari, which might be the film version of Suno Gagan ke tare which is tagged as a separte song by me

A small typo, Jantar Mantar year I think is 1964

There is a trio song by Asha Bhosle Hemlata and Rafi Sahab from the film Jawab (1974) “Chali Kahan hansti gaate” which has been omitted by your list.

Another small typo I think is omission of Asha Bhosle as a co singer in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje song “Rang Rang Ke Chunari”

Thanks and Regards

Swaminathanji, thanks again for your input.

Haaye Kitni Dukh Bhari Hai is a second part of Yug Yug Se Gaate Aaye (Jahan Sati Wahan Bhagwan - title song).
There are four parts in the film. I don't have the album version of this. If someone has it, please upload it for me.

Sanwaare Sabke Bighade Kaam is a part of Meri Hirni Jaisi Chaal. That is why it's not listed as a separate song. Similarly, Chali Jab Hawa is the second verse of Mujhi Mein Chhup Kar Mujhi Se Door from the film Jailor.

Dil Ke Phaphole Jal Uthe from Jallad is a gr8 find. I only wish Rafi sahab's part was longer.
This can be added to the list. jump.gif

Chhup Jaao Gagan Ke Taare is again a line from the song Suno Suno Gagan Ke Taare from the film Jal-Pari.
In the film this part plays at a different time.

Many thanks for finding this error. My files for Jantar Mantar are also tagged as year 1964. Will correct it in the list.

I've listed Chali Kahan Hansti Gaati from Jawab 1970 in the additions list already but the singers name are incorrect. I'll make the changes accordingly, even for Jhanak Jhanak Paayal Baaje singers. Thanks a ton!

I was searchin for more info on Paagal Premi on the net and I came across this thread where Surhallji mentioned that the songs were recorded in 1977 and the movie was released in 1985. I guess this means that the songs were recorded with the film title being Paagal Premi and the movie was later released as Hum Paagal Premi. Even Sangeetji's file says Paagal Premi AKA Hum Paagal Premi! So I think it isn't an unreleased movie. I'm going to make the changes in the list.

Hi Anupamaji

Thanks again for the clarifications, specially the version songs (film and record) which are really difficult to iron out.

Just one last thing, Was the Music Director of Jallad Naushad Ali or Nashad. It does not appear in the filmography of Naushad sahab

Anu,

One more song in Hum Dono can be considered a duet; the sad version of 'abhi na jaao'.
The song starts with Sadhana recollecting the last stanza from the happy version. The situation is very similar to Abhilasha song.

Here is a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dc97RfKDvME to the song video.

Exon, thanks for this but I think we shudn't count this as a separate song. Rafi sahab's part is taken from the main song. Rafi sahab's part wasn't recorded separately. Same goes for the Love in Tokyo' song - Ae mere Shah-e-Khuban.
However, Abhilasha's song is indeed a separate count. Rafi sahab's part wasn't taken from his original song.

Yes, two more can be added to the list;
Mere Sanam - Jaaiye Aap Kahan Jaayenge. It starts with Rafi sahab's hoooooooo
Kohinoor - Dil Mein Baji Pyaar Ki Shehnaaiyan. This also starts with Rafi sahab's hooooo.

Are there more that fall under the same category?

Anu,

I agree with with you on Hum Dono song.
There is one song that is sort of debatable; 'aaj kal mein dal gaya' the duet version from Beti Bete. This song was created during a period when Lata and Rafi weren't singing together.

If I'm not mistaken, the Lata-Rafi rift started in 1964. The Beti Bete songs could have been recorded earlier, even though the film released in 1964. The same year saw a few more films with lata-Rafi duets - Samson, Ishara, Aayi Milan Ki Bela, Aao Pyar Karen, Leader, etc. In 1965, however, there were no lata-Rafi duets.

Aditya, Exon has a valid point. It is said that SJ edited this duet version. They combined two solos (Rafi & Lata) and created one duet. The duet version wasn't recorded separately than their solos. In the duet version, there is no interlude music, whereas in solos there is (after every verse). It's uncanny, I was listening to this duet yesterday with my friend and was discussing it. Shall we still keep it in the list? I think we shudn't!

Both facts are correct:

1) Lata has sung the maximum songs with Rafi (440)
2) Rafi has sung the maximum songs witth Asha (880)

Besides, as per the information provided in the book Rafi Saheb has sung 328 non filmi geet in different languages and 112 film songs in different languages. Both these figures include panjabi film and non filmi songs

In the low_bit audio (possibly film version) of the song, the male singer doesn't appear to be Mohammad Rafi. The song stanzas also differ in these two audios. If anyone would like to comment on the male singer, here are the audios.

I'm not counting the album versions n film versions in this list, though I have made a list of song versions for my personal reference.

hi Romeshji
Thank you so much for your kind words. Glad you got this book by Sandhya Ajit Pradhan & Preetam T Menghani. I wasn't aware of this compilation. The only book I've heard about on Rafi sahab's songs was Saleem-ul-Haq's book. I really wish I had some book ref. b4 starting my compilation. My work would have been less hectic. But never mind, with the help of some kind friends n members, I was able to pull it off.

I believe that no database is fullyaccurate or conclusive - be it my list, Saleem-ul-Haq's, Sandhya Ajit Pradhan's or for that matter any other database of Rafi sahab's songs. There will be many discrepancies among the lists.

For instance, my count on regional films (Assamese, Avadhi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Chhatisgarhi, English, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Maghadi, Mathili, Malayalam, Marathi, Marwari, Oriya, Punjabi, Telugu) is 356 and my non-film regional (Islamic Devotional, Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Konkani, Marathi, Persian, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi) is 295. Whereas, Sandhya Ajit Pradhan's book lists 328 non-film (diff. languages) and 112 film (diff languages) and Saleem-ul-Haq's book says something else.

Romeshji, can you check how many Punjabi songs (film n non-film) are listed in that book? Are Mangti and Gwandi (1942) also listed in the book, as mentioned by Abbasiji on this thread? I don't know why these titles keep coming up. In one of Rafi sahab's interviews, he mentioned Gul Baloch as his first Punjabi movie. How is it possible that the singer forgets his debut film? I recently watched Rafi sahab's documentary, where even his son Shahid Rafi mentions Gul Baloch to be his first Punjabi movie. I don't hear Rafi sahab in the Surjit Singh site's version which was uploaded on YT.

Many thanks once again for your input.

Regards
Anu

You are very welcome. I have some details on Hanuman Chalisa (1969).

This movie was made by combining scenes and songs from following movies:
Shri Rambhakta Hanuman,PawanPutra Hanuman,Hanuman Patal Vijay, Chandrasena, Sampoorna Ramayana.

Three songs in your spreadsheet under Hanuman Chalisa were reused from Pawan Putra Hanuman (Music: Chitragupta).

These details on Hanuman Chalisa came from HF archive.

Exon, thanks a million for solving this mystery. One question - were all the songs from Pawan Putra Hanuman reused in Hanuman Chalisa? I have just three listed under Hanuman Chalisa 1969.

1. Jai Raghunandan Jai Siyaram

2. Seete Hey Seete Ram Hey Ram (Mere Ram Kahan Ho)

3. Ram Ki Mahima (Bhari Sabha)

Pawan Putra Hanuman has four songs, including Mere Mann Mein Hai Ram.

Anu,

I think, there were about 4 or 5 songs reused from PPH; among them only 3 were by Rafi . Remaining songs of Hanuman Chalisa came from other 4 or 5 movies (listed above).
CM2's 'From Here and There' thread had an album listing of Hanuman Chalisa. If you don't find his old post, I will try to dig and find for you.

A few days ago, I came across 'Rona Tera Ghadi Ghadi' song. It appears in both Hamara Adhikar (1970) and Baap Bahu aur Beta (1969). I don't know if these two movie titles refer to a single movie.

Exon, thanks for the clarification. I don't think that the fourth song (Mere Mann Mein Hain Ram) was reused in the movie Hanuman Chalisa. I downloaded the introduction clip of Hanuman Chalisa which you uploaded recently on Swaminathanji's thread. Thanks a lot for it. It says - they reused the songs from Shri Ram Bhakta Hanuman, Pawan Putra Hanuman, Hanuman Pataal Vijay n Sampooran Ramayan.

I found CMji's thread regarding Hanuman Chalisa:
http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=3337&st=481
Attached Image

According to his post, the following Rafi sahab's songs were reused in Hanuman Chalisa:

Pawan Putra Hanuman - Bhari Sabha Mein
Pawan Putra Hanuman - Jai Raghunandan (Jai Bolo Siyawar Ram Ki)
Pawan Putra Hanuman - Mere Ram Kahan Ho (Seete Seete Ram Hey Ram)

No other Rafi sahab's songs from Hanuman Pataal Vijay, Sampoorna Ramayan or Shri Ram Bhakta were reused.

Baap Bahu Aur Beta 1969 - Rona Tera Ghadi Ghadi (vinyl) was uploaded by Saj1974 at the following thread:

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=6265&st=276

Apart from this I couldn't find any other info on Baap Bahu Aur Beta on the net. It could be just an error or only Saj-ji can solve this mystery.

Check this thread too. I don't see Baap Bahu Aur Beta there either.
http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=53765

I'm keeping both in the list until this puzzle is solved.

That reminds me to add Circus Queen 1959 - Hum Tumse Poochhte Hain - Mohd.Rafi & Geeta Dutt's song to the list. This song is originally from Hamaari Shaan 1951 and was reused in Circus Queen 1959 later.
Thanks again for the clarification!

Anu,

Thanks for posting CM2's post on Hanuman Chalisa album image.

A friend has checked Geet Khosh and informs me that Baap Bahu aur Beta and Hamara Adhikar are one and same movie.

Are Aasha (1980) and Do Waqt ki Roti (1988) same movie with two releases?
I notice that three songs are overlapping between Satyanarayan (1948) & Bhikhaari (1949). Is this a case of song reuse?

I thought, Sangam song (yeh mera prem patra) has 3 or 4 separate recorded versions; solo, duet, slow solo.

These are two completely different movies. The only common factor between the two films was LP's music and Reena Roy. I don't think there is any song overlap between the two. Which songs according to the list are overlapping?

Anu,

I came across a few duplicate \ reused songs.

Meena Bazaar (1950) & Naqaab (1955)
kab tak uthaayen aur yeh gham

Dil Tera Deewana (1962) jaan-e-wafaa jaan-e-jahaan - Rafi (duplicate entry)

Tere Dwaar Khada Bhagwaan (1964) & Jisne tera Naam Liya (UR): dil todne waale aaja re - Rafi

Shaan-e-Hatim (1956) & Eid Ka Chaand (1964): bhalaayi duniya ki jo subah shaam - Rafi
(I think, this song belongs to Shaan-e-Haatim)

Johar in Kashmir (1966) & Nasbandi (1978): begunaahon ka lahu hai - Rafi
(I don't have Nasbandi audio. But, I think, Nabandi song title is different.
http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=41805&view=findpost&p=447485)

Miss Coca Cola (1955) & Johny Walker (1957): bach ke balam chal ke - Rafi, Geeta Dutt
(Not sure if it is present in Miss Coca Cola. In GD spreadsheet, this title is listed only under Johny Walker)

Hum Junglee Hain (1974) & Teen Chehre (1979): baaton baaton mein
('baaton baaton mein' song from Hum Junglee Hain is by Rafi and Usha Mangeshkar.
I wasn't sure about the female singer. Some time ago, Erum had checked Geet Khosh and confirmed.
Teen Chehre film song (woh is andaaz se ..., baaton baaton mein) singers are Shyamji, Mohammad Rafi, Usha Mangeshkar, Krishna Kalle)

Andhi Jawani (1977) & Gumrah (1977): aao neele gagan ke baadalon mein jhoome
(Both are same movie)

Pyar Bana Afsana (1960sUR): kaho ji tumhein kis se pyaar hai -
(This is a duet with Asha)

Aansoo (1953)
(duplicate 'sun mere saajna'; addition: din pyaar ke aaye re)

Yeh Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai (1966): nange baazu, nangi raane
(I have the above version; please upload film version)
