Friends,

Some more Rare Diamonds!

1. "Meherbaani Meherbaani.. Meri Teri" -Rafi-Suman Kalyanpur- Music:Snehal Bhatkar- Film:Fariyad

2."Aaj Mousam Ki Masti Mein Gaati Pawan"- Rafi-Lata- Music: Iqbal Quereshi-Film: Banarasi Thug

(The interesting bit about this song is that ,all through, it is exactly as per the same tune as "Ek Chhameli Ki Mandwe Tale" from "Cha Cha Cha", whose MD is also Iqbal Quereshi. Ek Chameli is by Rafi-Asha and this Aaj Mousam is by Rafi-Lata)

3."Nigaahen Na Phero Chale Jaayenge Hum"- Rafi- Music: ?- Film: ?
This song was sung separately by both Rafi and Suman in two versions.

4.One more Rare Diamond, this time, by Lata: "Lau Lagaati Geet Gaati"- Lata- Music: Sudhir Phadke-Film: Bhabhi Ki Chudiyaan

Shall be grateful for any uploads

Nimmiji, many thanks for the Lau Lagaati song.

The song, "Nigaahen na Phero Chale Jaayenge Hum", by Rafi Saab was aired this morning in Bhoole Bisre Geet on Vividh Bharati. Thus I happened to hear it this morning after years. Really an excellent song and Rafi Saab sang it with real josh.

And the interesting thing about this wonderfully talented composer is that he was more famous for his golden voice and singing. Popular rumour had it that his voice was so much in demand in music circles that it finally let him down - he grew hoarse. sad.gif The hoarse part was indeed true. Pity i can't u/l the songs in his voice - it's all on cassette. sad.gif

oops !! blab.gif Sajdah !!
i didn't see your post here abt the same song, earlier !! Just saw it now after reading you post addressed to me.

actually, as soon as i saw venkat's request for 'aaj mausam ki masti mein'...i immediately posted the link since i had just uploaded the same song coincidentally a few days ago - didn't think of checking if someone had re-uploaded it here. (now i find that your upload was the next post itself !!)

no probs !! it's not about taking credit at all .....after all we haven't sung the song or composed it ...then, what's there for you or me to take credit for ?? laugh.gif the whole idea is to help each other find good songs...which is exactly what you have also done. ....so, no need to apologise etc.

i can understand .....with so many songs being uploaded and downloaded, it is difficult to keep track of which thread one has downloaded a song from ...and so it may be difficult to provide the link..and may be easier to upload it again.

and sorry, if my post offended you, inadvertently, in any way. I never intended anything other than what i wrote (no hidden agendas etc. !!) biggrin.gif . If i had seen your post, I would not have written at all - esp since i would have made out from the file name that it is the same file !

...and what a nice song , this one is - i just love its melody, tempo and the way it's been sung.

Indeed, Sri sahab that's what happened. sad.gif I confess i forgot which thread had this song - and i was short of time to search it out. It was a lapse on my part ( even if you forgive me ) because you do deserve all the credit for uploading this rare gem in such perfect sound quality. wub.gif

And yes, i agree that this song has the power to cheer up even a person with supposedly incurable melancholia. smile.gif

some beautiful compostions by Snehal Bhatkar.

1. Tuney teri nazar ne kafir bana diya...rafi and mubarak
2. Papiha dekho dekh raha tha.......m kapoor, suman
3. Haal e dil unko sunanan tha....suman

and the beautiful...former Miss India...Zeb Rehman.

Hi Sharad,

Extremely grateful for releasing this gem to the public. I am sure that ,as at the time of your uploading, you must have been one of just two or three people in the world to be possessing this! I had complimented your collection earlier too!

Yeah, I do agree that the best parts in the song are 1) the opening lines of Suman and 2) Mere tere Dam Se.........., especially where they say Zindagani thrice! Also,Yeh Kahani, Yeh Nishani thrice!

When I hear this song I can immediately go back to my secondary school days.

Thanks again.

Venkat ji, that could be because GS Kohli was at one time the assistant of OP Nayyar. smile.gif

Inspiration does not fall under the shadow of plagiarism - or does it ?

Whatever, i think he was a wonderfully talented composer in his own right, who didn't quite make it in the big bad world of the Hindi cinema world. sad.gif

Dear Sharukh Saab and Balaji Gade Saab,

Many many thanks for uploading these nice songs.

Balaji garu, I also thank you for correcting me on the lyrics and Rafi Saab's co-singer in Bach Ke Balam. As Rafi Saab's lines, which come after Geeta, say Bachhna Hai Mushkil, somehow I was remembering only that.

There are two interesting things about "Muh Se Mat Laga Cheez Hai Buri" and "Bachh Ke Balam" songs.

Manna Dey in one interview said that OPN, who always utilised only Rafi Saab, had given him too one chance in just one song and that was Muh Se Mat Laga!

The Bachhke Balam song was picturised on Johny Walker and the heroine travelling in the skies in a magic car! That is the reason that they are going from Bombay to Delhi to Agra to Calcutta (not Kolkata!) in 3-5 minutes!

Once again hearty thanks to Balaji garu and Sharukh Saab.

Friends,

I was just listening to "Tu Shokh Kali Main Mast Pawan" from Main Suhagan Hoon (Music: Lachhiram), which was uploaded here, courtesy Sajdah of Hf. Whenever I hear that song, I feel intensely for Rafi Saab and go into tears. What a singer!

Dosthon, did any of you have the opportunity of meeting him in person during the period of his peak career (ie.1947-1969, which is also the platinum era of HFM, in my firm view)? If so, can you narrate any such occasions?

For me, since I was 7 or 8 years old, Rafi Saab had been no less than God! Actually, over the years, the feeling is only further intensifying.

I have changed my views and likes/dislikes on so many issues in life over many years, but not my view of Rafi Saab-that he was a God-sent Gandharva, sent to Earth to bring ecstasy to millions in the subcontinent, indeed the whole world!

earthmusic is a good site (not always accurate though) to check info like this :
http://www.earthmusic.net/

chaman ki jaan ho
singer : suresh rajvanshi
music : mohd shafi (probably the same one who assisted Naushad in many films during the 60s, 70s)
Lyrics : qafil azar
Film : Irada (1971)

Sri,

Very valuable information and thanks for the same. This Suresh Rajvanshi's voice was quite like that of Rafi Saab! It was sounding even more similar as he too was using some of Rafi Saab's sangats such as a certain dragging of words, etc.

The tune too was nice. I was hearing it on Vividhbharati the other day. Only, I missed out on the singer's name and film.

Thanks

Lovely sweet melody Venkat ji. Thanks for sharing. smile.gif

Talat sahab's diction sounds perfect even in this language - is it ? I once heard a Malayalam song of his ( Dunno the movie name though ) - the words are 'Neela Kadale' i believe. From that i've reason to believe that Talat sahab didn't have any difficulty at all pronouncing Sanskritised words.

Oh, and i am sorry but i didn't understand a word sad.gif ( It is a romantic song, that i deduce ! ) of what this Telugu song is all about - need some help. Would you ?

Sajdah Ji,

Thanks for liking this Telugu song. I have uploaded it because 1) there is Talat in it who is familiar to all of you and 2) I was confident of the melody of the tune. You are absolutely right that his diction and enunciation of Telugu words were flawless. Actually, it is sung by separated lovers, hence a touch of melancholy in their voices.

Balaji garu,

I agree that it should rightly be in Talat forum. But, can it be shifted now, with a link here also? I request someone's help.

Firstly, thanks to Usrafian for that lesser-known/heard, but familiar from olden days, duet from Love In Simla. It was nice.

Actually, we have all along been asking for uploads of Rafi Saab's RARE, LESSER-HEARD SONGS WHICH WE KNOW WOULD BE NICE, not those blind, rare songs which we have to hear now for making an assessment. Obviously, not all RARE songs are necessarily nice!

RARE & NICE songs are available not only from lesser-known MDs, but also from popular MDs.

Now, three more Rare Diamonds!

Look how Rafi Saab subtly changes the sangat/tune in the Mukhda No.2 as compared Mukhda No.s 1&3, in the song, "Pyaar Ki Manzil" from Ziddi,

1.Yunh hi Sataunga Din Aur Raat

2.Dam Se Hamare Hai Tum Par Bahar

3.Maano Ya Na Maano Ji Tum Ho Haseen

Please observe "Raat" & "Haseen" and compare them with "Bahar"!

Hundreds of such examples in hundreds of his songs!

Myawan Ji, I am also looking for a ticket on this Time Machine. Let's see whether anyone will organise a trip!

Meanwhile, let's discuss a song from Mughal-e-Azam. Contrary to what many people think, Rafi Saab had actually sung two (not just one) songs for Mughal-e-Azam. In addition to "Zindabad Zindabad", there was another background song, " AKELA HAM KO CHHOD KE HAMARE DIL KO TOD KE KAHAAN CHALE".

Music: Naushad

Singer: Rafi

Shall be thankful for an upload.

Doston, does any of you possess the video clips of such Rafi Saab's song recordings in film studios, wherein we can see and hear the actual final recording of any of those great songs?

Bobby Mudgel,

Shall be grateful if you can soon organise upload of that complete song --"Jaane Meri Ankhiyon Ne".

Secondly, the other song,." AKELA HAM KO CHHOD KE HAMARE DIL KO TOD KE KAHAAN CHALE"---Music: Naushad--Film: Mughal-e-Azam--Singer: Rafi, might have been recorded for Udan Khatola, but was actually picturised in Mughal-e-Azam. It was viewed for the first couple of weeks by cine-goers, but was later removed probably due to length considerations. Please see if you can upload that too, if you really have it, of course.

Venkat

P.S. Haneef Ji, Rafi Saab would have happily borne with the incursions of his die-hard fans, such as you and I!

Great job Venkat ji, Thanks for the video, besides the singing my fav. part is when Jaikishan is hugging Rafi, a touching moment.

The 'well done' was only for uploading and after seeing the video clip, all I can is "jeete raho".

A must download for everyone.....a total winner.

Please let me know if you are looking for any Rafisaab songs, will be glad to help if I have.

Posted by: venkat Oct 8 2006, 04:31 PM

Friends,

Thanks indeed for the wholesome appreciation from all of you, including even our chief, Pradeep Ji.

Prince Saab, I do agree with your comment on the Jaikishan hug. You can easily make out from the video that both of them (S & J) were truly and wholeheartedly thrilled and excited at felicitating this Gandharva! In fact, all the great MDs of yesteryears used to love Rafi Saab and used to think that he was giving his best (only) to them! That was Rafi Saab!

Besides, see how Rafi Saab was being honoured by the veteran, Pridhvi Raj Kapoor! And see how humbly Rafi Saab was reaching for his feet! Truly touching moments!

Thanks once again to all of you. Pradeep Ji, I don't have that particular song on this video, but I have others, which I will u/l at an opportune moment.

Do you know when Rafisaab sang the legendry "Bapu Ki Amar Kahani' (48) Prithviraaj , an ardent fan of Rafisaab said " If there was any doubt that Rafi was the king of singing then that doubt does not exist anymore". Rafisaab was close to the Kapoor family and was their great friend.

Friends,

I am glad to upload this excellent solo (audio only) of Rafi Saab.

"Yeh Raat Bahut Rangeen Sahi"
Film:Shagoon
MD:Khayyam

One interesting feature of this song is that it consists of only one long antara. My salutations to Rafi Saab for singing this song so very well, as he only can.

Great song... I like this song up to the point where Rafi sings the words: 'Mein sher paroon tum rakhs karo, matalab toh kuch Khayrat mile'. Its a really good song until then, I mean a guy cud use it in certain situations but after that it goes all nationalistic and thats a let down!

Posted by: venkat Oct 18 2006, 09:12 PM

Friends,

"Meri Kahaani Bhoolne Wale" from Deedar is one of the top 10 Rafi songs, in my humble view.

I have this song live being sung by Rafi Saab and Naushad Saab conducting the orchestra. I am not sure, but I think this live song was done some time around 1977 (just 3 years before his passing away and full 25+ years after he originally recorded that song!). One can make out from this video that already, all was not well with Rafi Saab's health and even his voice, if I may say so. But still, he produced 90% of the original effect. Naushad Saab's Violin group was, however, precise and as effective as in the original.

I shall upload this tomorrow as a token gift for Diwali/Ramzan.

When the final take of this masterpiece was being recorded in 1955/56, there must have been palpable tension in the recording room, with SJ, producer, director, etc. looking at Rafi Saab with concern and awe! It appears to me that while Rafi Saab's voice went booming in the microphone, all the musical instruments played on their own, with respect and admiration! The end-of-the-recording hug by SJ of Rafi Saab would have been indeed touching!

Rafi is alive.

Friends,

Film:Gharana(1961) was a remake of a Telugu Film:Santi Nivasam(1960). In the Telugu original, this Jai Raghu Nandan Jai Siyaram was sung by P.B. Srinivas and P.Susila. The song is :"Sri Raghu Ram Jaya Raghu Ram". The MD for the Telugu version was the well-known Ghantasala, who was also the leading Telugu playback singer, in olden days (say, almost during the entire period of Rafi Saab).

Ravi had fashioned his song after the Telugu original in the same Raaga, but with slight modifications. Both are very nice songs, with the Hindi one having, may be, an edge. Incidentally, P.B.Srinivas, who sang the Telugu song, is a die-hard Rafi fan! I am uploading here the Telugu version.

Hi
Thanks for the above song. The tune of this song reminded of another composition by Ravi in Ghar Sansar. Its words were somothing like ' Nazar badhe aankh lade teekhi topi waalon ki...gorey gorey gaalon ki, ghunghar waale waalon ki'sung by Rafi and companions. if you or anyone else has it, I would like to listen to it after some decades. Again shukriya iss gaane ka. Harjinder

Oh, thank you again, Lakshmi. What, however, beats me is as to how you have sourced all these rare songs, being in US for over 30 years!

The MD for this "Dil Hai Hamara Phool Se Nazukh" is G.S. Kohli, and not Ravi, as mentioned in your song title.
