dear sir,
How a video can be shown by All India Radio? It could be some Doordarshan programme in which Meena Kapoor second wife of Anil Biswas might be perfoming on this song clipping. this song was picturised on Moti Lal & Nadira.

The video was probably from the series 'Gaata Jaaye Banjara' where they interviewed Anil Biswas. After lamenting leaving the industry due to its commercialization Biswas went on to say that he had another grudge- a voice which had base, sex, appeal, versatality was not recognized and used fully by the industry. He was referring to his wife Meena Kapoor's voice, after this comment of his, she sang the mukhadaa from this song. smile1.gif Can someone please upload this song, my version has acquired too much of hiss.

This post is really a response to a post in the Geeta Dutt forum. Since it
was not relevant to that forum, I am posting my response here.

Due to the limited output of her songs, IMHO  it does not justify a separate
sub-forum for Meena Kapoor.  While on the subject, here are some video clips
(in Real Media) from "ANOKHA PYAR" featuring the voice of Meena Kapoor

:

A separate sub-forum for Meena Kapoor may be overdoing it.
I have read that one of the reasons why Anil Biswas withdrew from the industry
is b'cos of the lack of recognition of Meena, his better half, whose voice he felt
had everything.
I saw Meena Kapoor recently on TV in a programme on Roshan. Which reminds
me, that the song "Ae Dil Meri Wafa" is probably sung by Lata & Ira Nagrath
(Mrs. Roshan), though in some databases it shows as Ira Nagrath/Meena Kapor.
Which is right? In the movie Lata sings for Nalini Jaywant, and there seems to be
only one other heroine - Nargis. Could these be version songs?
Thx for the video-clips Unni saab.
Cheers

Don't know if this has been discussed on HF till now. But here is the explanation.
In those days, singers used to record songs twice, once for the film and once for
the record. The record version was typically because of limitations on the length
of the song to fit into a 45 rpm or 78 rpm record. But there could have been
other reasons as well.
For the film "Anokha pyaar", one of the versions had been recorded (I believe
the film versions) in Meena Kapoor's voice. However, when it came time to make
the record version, she was ill and unable to do the recording. So Lata came in
and recorded those songs. The only case where this was not possible was the
Lata/Meena Kapoor duet "Ae dil meri wafa me". So in this case, Ira Nagrath was
brought in to sing with Lata. That is the reason why there are 2 versions of all
the songs in the film which have Meena Kapoor's voice.
The Ira Nagrath version is harder to come by. The EMI CD of "Anokha pyaar"
has the 2 versions of all the songs except this one. And to make matters worse,
they have mistakenly identified the Lata/Meena Kapoor version as being the
Lata/Ira Nagrath version. Sigh!!!! One wishes there was more attention paid to
such details.
sad1.gif
I am appending both versions of this song here. The Lata/Ira Nagrath version is
shorter than the Lata/Meena Kapoor version. I am still not sure which version
was in the film v/s which was in the record. I am guessing that Meena Kapoor
sang in the film.

The rest of this post is IMHO.
Now as to the singer herself, I believe that "Anokha pyaar" represents her best
work to date. She brings an emotion and intensity to the songs that Lata was
not able to do in her versions. However, one must also remember that this was
a very very young Lata. Over the years, that voice quality and emotion grew,
till she did it better than most anybody else. Meena Kapoor's voice was lovely,
but never in the league of the Mangeshkar sisters (specifically Lata and Asha).
I always wondered why she did not make it big herself, especially with a composer
like Anil Biswas as her husband. But after listening to several of her other songs,
I realized that her voice is limited in its range and style. One of the things that
the greats like Lata, Asha, Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh, etc did was to take even an
ordinary (sometimes bad) tune and convert it into something much better. This
was a quality that is not present in all singers, even those with lovely voices like
Meena Kapoor, Mubarak Begum, etc. And so, if a composer/producer could
afford one of the top tier, they continued along that line. After all, if we were all
composers, we would want our songs to be rendered by nobody but the best.
Even Anil Biswas himself has used Lata a lot more than Meena Kapoor.
Well that is my analysis du jour smile1.gif

Sangeetbhakt saab,
You did the right thing by shifting the discussion to this forum. Thx for the exhaustive explanation as well - makes sense.

Repost of one of my posts on RMIM on this song

In Love with a song - Kuchh aur zamana kehta hai

My first (and to an extent last) introduction to the song was about
15-16 years back when I got to see the movie on Doordarshan.... Since
then I have never been able to get the song out of me.. Dont know why
but I have lived and listend the song (only) in my memories...
Memories to Cherish forever.. the song proves it.. infact the song was
one of the catalyst to start the Chitrahaar quiz...

First the film...

Chhoti Chhoti Baatien was a dream of Motilal.. He not only played the
lead but tried his hand at direction too (for the first and last
time)... Motilal though was one of the most natural actors of Indian
Films, it seems he was highly inspired with Charlie Chaplin and his
films.. He never tried to immitate chaplin and did the chaplin acts in
his own Natural style...His Mastana (mid 50's) was the remake of
Chaplin's The Kid... and Chhoti Chhoti Baatein.. IMO it was loosley
based on Chaplin's Limelight... This I felt when I watched the
movie... From what I can recollect... CCB was a story of an old man
good at heart, when he gets retired from his job, doesnt treated well
by his family, he moves to a village, where he meets Nadira, a young
vidrohi sort of lady (who better than Nadira.. did she played a widow?
cant recollect).. The two
shares a strong bond and their relationship becomes aankh ka kaanta of
Gaon wala's... The story was well supported by small episodes of
comic, funny,
emotional, touching shades... almost all shades in Chhoti Chhoti
Baatein..

Motilal's death during prior to the release of CCB, was a not only a
loss of a great actor, he was... but a great director what he could
be... CCB is a showcase of that...

Music wise, CCB holds a special place in HFM as it was the last film
of Anil Biswas..The film had not one but two Swan songs... Zindagi
Khwab hai for Motilal and Kuchh aur zamana kehta hai for Anil Biswas
(and Meena Kapoor)..great lyrics by Shailender... Zindagi ka ajab
fasana hai is another popular mukesh-lata duet from the film.. but the
song I am in love with is Kuchh aur zamana kehta hai... the song got
my immediate attention when I was watching the film.. The song was
picturised on Nadira in a boat and even today the frame is freezed in
my memories, .. I searched for the song for many years wih many
recording wala's to no avail (even posted on RMIM about 5 years
back).. as Nida Fazli said... 'Mil jaaye to mitti hai, kho jaaye to
sona hai...' Truely a gold song for me...

Last year, I got to know that a Nadira interview is sheduled on Vividh
Bharti..I was sure if she plays some songs, she would definately play
this one.. and she played the song in the end.. unfortunately the
version I recorded was
not a good one.. still in search of a good recording...Simply one of
my
favourite songs...

isn't it one of the most appropriate swan songs considering the fact
Anil
Biswas said Alvida to Film industry...

Some films and some songs leaves a forever impact on you...
This song is one of them...still remains gold for me...

Song : Kuchh aur zamana kehata hai
Film : Chhoti Chhoti Baatein (1965)
Singer : Meena Kapoor
Music : Anil Biswas
Lyrics : Shailender
Picturised on : Nadira

Kuchh aur zamana kehata hai, kuchh aur hai zid mere dil ki - 2
mein baat zamane ki manoo, ya baat sunu apne dil ki

kuchh aur zamana kehata hai...

duniya ne hamein berahami se
thukara jo diya, achcha hi kiya - 2
nadaan hum samajhe baithe the -2
nibhati hai yahaan dil se dil ki

kuchh aur zamana kehata hai...

insaaf, mohabbat, sachchaai -2
wo rahmo-karam ke dikhlaave
kuchh kahate zabaan sharmaati hai -2
poochho na jalan mere dil ki

kuchh aur zamana kehata hai...

go basti hai insaano ki

kuchh aur zamana kehata hai...

DEJAVU

After listening to this wonderful song, I was in deep thoughts as to where before have I heard this kind of tune!?
It is close to a type of Bengali classical tune, or even sounded at times like devotional songs of Goddess Kali (Shymasangeet). Then I made the connection as I read more about anil Biswas. He was trained by the GREAT GREAT KAZI NAZRUL ISLAM.......O My God!!! That's the connection......Kazi Nazrul Islam, though a muslim was a devotee of Kali and had composed wonderful Kali songs....this tune was used there!!!!!

I love you Anil Da......you are a great among the greatest!!!!

Bappa

SORRY I cannot help but wonder again?????
What is it that people found in Lata annd Asha as compared to Meena Kapoor that made the Mangeshkar sisters on the top??????!!!!!!
