Rafi Saab had sung Hindi songs for as many as over 245 MDs! Of these 245+ MDs, I am giving the list of the top 17 MDs for whom Rafi Saab sang the most.

SJ, LP & Naushad were self-proclaimed fans of Rafi Sahab, but what surprises me is that even there are 160 songs to the credit of Madan Mohan, who I thought was more inclined towards Talat Sahab and 77 to C. Ramchandra who thought that his own voice was better than Rafi Sahab's.

One MD who did not use Rafi Sahab at all, but still became successful was Anil Biswas. I have read some where (probably in an article by Raju Bharatan, I am not sure) that he had recorded the songs of Do Raha in Rafi Sahab's voice only to later re-record all the songs in Talat Sahab's voice because (now, I don't believe this part at all) according to Anil Biswas, Rafi Sahab was a singer from Bhendi Bazaar !!!

Based on some anthology's and books I have read, the stats I have come across are as follows, they are pretty similar:

L-P: 380-plus
S-J: 377
Ravi: 242
KA: 178
Naushad: 164

Adding some more:

SN Tripathi: 85
Hansraj Behl: 84
Rajesh Roshan: 63

The reason why SDB and Roshan have less songs with Rafi compared to others is because they did a lesser amount of films. Even for other singers, the amount of songs from these two composers aren't that much. Both have long shadows with Rafi, as in SDB worked with Rafi from 1947-75 and Roshan from about the early 50's till 68, and he was a prime singer for both composers. Even for RDB, his work with Rafi was from 1961-1980.

SKG, Madan Mohan's favourite singers were Lata and Rafi, but he did use Talat in quite a few of his films.

Most of these composers were fans of Rafi saab and had great respect for him. In fact, he contributed alot to their careers and probably only Lata can be bracketed along with Rafi in this aspect.

It is not so easy for any MD to bypass Rafi Saab! Contrary to what you wrote on Anil Biswas, even he had hired Rafi Saab for as many as 14 songs (7 solos, 5 duets and 2 group songs).

While in a hurry, I made a small mistake about the 16th and 17th ranks in my opening post. Actually, on 16th rank is Hansraj Behl (88 songs) and on 17th rank is S.N. Tripathi (78 songs). The rest are all correct.

why hurt fans of other HFM artists ??. If thread requires such statement to be made you can say it in better words , without hurting other HFM fans.

some special loyalty towards Asha..can you tell me what are the rest of the
