Was there a planet between Mars and Jupiter at some time?
There is far too much circumstantial evidence that there must have been one.

The orbits of the planets have a geometric sequence in terms of distance from the sun. But just after Mars, the distance to Jupiter is TWICE the distance it should have been.

And in the place where there should have been another planet, there IS an orbit. The asteroids follow this orbit. Asteroids are millions of pieces of rock and dust. Is it that they are the remains of a planet that was there, and has blown up?

Were there an advanced species there? Did they get too advanced for their own good?

Did some of them manage to space travel?

Are we their descendants?

Why are we the weakest species on this planet? Why are we so different in all aspects from the other animals on earth?

And being the weakest physically, how come we have evolved way beyond all of them? Logically we should have been the last to evolve...

Good discussion Mandrake! IF there were any advanced species on the "could have been" planet.. then why are there no traces of it on the other planets? If we all could have come from there.. why is it we have not attempted to try living on the others? I am talking about the first living thing that began to exist on earth.

Are we really the physically weakest creatures on earth?!?!?!? Why do you say so?If so.. mebbe to make the world exist..the evolution was for the better.. not for the strongest but for the creatures that can amicably exist together without trying to eat each other! *tho there are certain contradictions* here.

What do you say about this?

Thanks for reading this Nimii.
Now let me give you a brief update on the time-scale. The earth is estimated to be 4600 million years old.
If a 'mega-century' is considered an year, the earth is now 46 years old. Of these, the first 7 are totally lost to human knowledge. The eighth year onwards, signs can be read in the ancient rocks in Greenland and South Africa.
On that time scale, whatever we recognize, including all substantial animal life, has appeared in the last six years!
The dinosaurs 'passed away' just eight months ago.
In the last 'week' some men-like-apes started turning into ape-like-men.
Just over four hours have elapsed since 'Homo Sapiens' appeared.
Just a 'minute' has passed since man started the industrial revolution (that is three human lifetimes ago).
During this 'minute' man has multiplied manifold and is ransacking the planet for metal and fuel.

Nimii this is researched stuff, to be taken seriously.

Now look at the animals who have been present for over an "year" and more. Cave drawings show dogs, deer, horses, elephants. We recognize them because they still look the same. Because they did not evolve!!

And man as we know him, comes in the last couple of days and evolves at a breath-taking pace? A product of the same planet? Difficult to believe - why this special evolution-treatment to this particular 'animal'?

You said, how do I say we are the weakest? Check any animal on this planet. Leave them to the weather and open-air conditions. They survive comfortably. They can endure the weather without the need of elaborate shelters. They cure themselves quite easily. When other animals attack, either they are able to defend themselves without 'external weapons' or are able to run very very fast to escape. Also, they have the ability to 'sense' changes in the environment and prepare themselves.
Man (in his natural 'naked' state) cannot do any of these things - inspite of 'evolving' for the better. Cannot endure weather changes beyond 5 degrees (peanuts). Cannot defend himself bare-handedly against other animals. Doesn't have that 'sixth sense'.

Because he is not from this planet. He is the only bi-ped on the planet of quadru-peds. (No, apes aren't bi-peds - they just attempt to be that)

And still he rules the planet. He has abilities that the animals cannot even begin to comprehend.

Man is the only 'animal' that sleeps on his back naturally. (Dogs can do that for a few seconds - no more)
He is the only creature whose spinal column enters the skull vertically at the skull-base. For others, the entry-point is at right angles. For apes, 70 degrees, but still not 90 degrees like man.

Nimii I can go on and on...

Regarding what happened to the 'travellers' from the planet-that-was. Logically, they travelled to Mars (the other side are the gas planets, Jupiter, saturn, etc - this side are the rock planets).
At that time Mars was closer to the sun, where today's earth is. The distance determines to temperature and weather properties. Mars was 'earth' then. The species developed.
In time, the expansion of the universe pushed Mars to inhospitable climes, and made it what it is today. Our travellers space-jumped to earth which replaced the Mars orbit.
That perhaps explains their late entry on this planet. It explains why 'they' (we) are different from the other species here. It explains why they are so 'advanced' inspite of being physically weaker.
The genetic makeup of man is vastly different from all other animals here, Why? Man doesn't belong here. His destructive/possessive gene is still active. So the wars, the land-grabs. Why do animals not do it? We know animals fight. But sustained, long-term attack campaigns? Never. Territory markings (lions), yes. But to fight to death? No.

Should stop here I guess... (Mandrake smiles sheepishly) rolleyes.gif

Mandrake is ka matlab we are not actually fit to live here right as much as the other animals.. Did we land like some aliens from elsewhere and evolved trying to adapt to the new surroundings -- ya who knows mebbe we are from that planet which is now orbitting in fragments/debris !!!!!!!!!!!!!! wowow kewl!!

WE are misfits indeed to be here.. !!!!!!!!!!!!

No Nimii, we are not Misfits in the physical sense any longer. (Let me call the space-travellers as Our Ancestors (OA))
OA were obviously highly developed. They didn't crash-land on earth. They were experienced from one planet-exodus. So when they figured out that they'll have to repeat the process, they did enough research on planet earth, and 're-designed' themselves to fit in here physically. So the new 'man' was fashioned from the soil on this planet. Understand that all our bodies eventually turn to Dust!!!

This research process happened over many trips. They made prototypes. They experimented. The bad experiments were destroyed. The good ones improved upon. Remember giants? Not figments of imagination. Experiments that failed in scale. So eventually destroyed. Remember the one-eyed Cyclops? Genetic mistakes. Destroyed. I can name so many instances.

The better ones continued to live alongside the experiments. The bible says:"And He said: Let us make man after our own image." Us? Our? Plural? When we say God is only one? These were not gods, but OA.
When experiments failed, destruction was sometimes difficult because OA had learnt the secret of immortality. So, to make destruction easy, they removed the knowledge of immortality from us. Not removed as in taken away, but locked it out of our reach.
The reason we are using only 10% of our brain (scientific fact) is because there is a time-lock on the brain. Maybe if we live beyond a specific age, those secrets will be known to us.
Understand that boys can't grow beards before 14-15. Time-lock. Girls grow breasts and start menses after puberty. Time-lock. Women have menopause in the forties. Time-lock. You can only access these events at those ages. That's the genetic time-lock.
Our earlier people knew some secrets, especially the hindu rishis. They had access to this knowledge. Hence the sanjeevani Mantra. Or the story of the king who temporarily exchanged his old-age with his son's youth. Or so many other instances. Bheeshma's control over his time of death. I can quote endlessly...

Back to OA. They would make experiments, talk to the successful experiments (our ancestors made from this soil) and tell them to keep an eye. In time they would return again. In case there was an emergency, 'we' could call them via collectively directed mental energies. (Today we call that 'prayers').
Vishnu's dashaavtaara is a classic example. He returned 9 times to purge the earth of the mis-fired experiments.
There were also problems with cross-breeding that happened when OA were away. Since there were no moral laws laid down at that time, anybody mated with anything. So we had centaurs (man+horse), sphinx (man+lion), mermaids(woman+fish), and what have you.
(You may recall that even in Mahabharata there are instances when rishis took animal forms while mating - the most famous example is Pandu's curse. He was cursed for shooting a mating deer, who was actually a sage in the deer's form)

Eventually, the experiments succeeded. And the exodus happened. Read about Mars and you'll find the constant refrain " did life exist on Mars?". Of course it did!!

Now Nimii, I am ready to write a book wink2.gif or so it seems wink2.gif
Pls ask me specific questions and I'll answer them. I really can go on endlessly otherwise... thumbs-up.gif

Wow wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM GAME! IF YOU WRITE A BOOK I AM SURE TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO BUY IT biggrin.gif

Now if you take the dashavtaras.. 10 times to purge the earth .. mis fired experiments.. but dont u see an evolution in each of those appearance!!??!?! Kalki the last one.. is expected.. but a white horse.. I think mebbe there is a miscalculation in the time ..

It is so amazing how our vedas and puranas can be researched and studied collaterally with the advent of man and science.

Now what do you say about Adam and Eve? They are supposed to be the first man and wife.. but from various descriptions of them, they do not resemble the early man..

What are you views on that?

Yes I agree Nimii, our ved, puran and other scriptures are fascinating to the serious student. In fact, I did start a thread on this 2 weeks back, but it's failed to take off sad1.gif

Regarding Kalki, this avataar is to happen at the end of Kaliyug which is supposed to be 4,32,000 years later, of which only 5000 or so have passed. It is also said that Kalki will come on a white horse and will be a great swordsman.

Sounds impossible na?

Until one starts realizing that space travel to places outside our solar system will always take hundreds of 'earth-years'. The principle of time-dilation ensures that for the space traveller, time 'stops' or 'slows down'. So you take a space flight to a distant planet. By the time you reach the destination, only a few weeks might have elapsed as per your wrist-calendar. But on earth, a few hundred years will have passed by. By the time you go to the destination, do your job and return, your calendar shows 6 months. But here on earth, a few thousand years have passed. This is just a basic example.

So 4,32,000 years for Vishnu to return suddenly doesn't seem too far-fetched.

Now what's the horse doing here is this jet age?

Here again we are assuming that the jet age is infinite. The jet-age will only last as long as we have oil available. Post that, if no alternative fuels are developed, we will have to return to animal-drawn vehicles.
Not an impossibility, and certainly not the first time it will be happening!!!

Ravana the mighty king of Lanka, had, among other things, a vimaana. When Ram frees Seeta, Vibhishan sends them back to Ayodhya by this very vimaana. Apart from this description, there are innumerable descriptions of the vimaanas, their details, their designs, their special features as well as their construction details in many scriptures. Where did all of these vimaanas go?

Well, the vimaanas used pure mercury as their fuel. Obviously, at that time mercury must have been abundantly available. Over time, mercury stocks depleted.
The use of vimaanas must have fallen with that. No better alternative fuels may have been developed in adequate time.
Eventually, vimaanas might have been relegated to the museums. And later on, only to memories and legends.

(The first english translation of Ramayana reached England in 1885. People read the story and promptly dismissed the vimaanas as an impossibility. No inanimate thing heavier than air could fly!!
Barely 15 years later, Wilbur and Orville Wright made their first fledgling flight!!!)

Do you think now that horse-riding is a thing of the past, never to return?
And by the same logic, one day we run out of gunpowder and hi-tech ammunition. Isn't 'eco-friendly' (ugh! wrong place to use na? wink2.gif) weaponry the most logical choice then? Swords? Bows and Arrows?

And why should we run out of the hi-tech ammo, you say? Well, one nuclear war will be enough (it will be really big, though) for man-kind to shun such weapons forever. There will be peace for some time after that. But eventually, the destruction-gene will rear it's head, and a few bad men will need weapons of destruction.

Enter, the sword....

Self - belief is the most potent force.

About your Adam and Eve question, Nimii:

Genesis 1:26-27 tells us about the creation of man. It states that God created man and woman in His “image” and “likeness.” This description of man – as created in God’s “image” and “likeness” – is very interesting. God had made “good” things before, but never had He made something in His “image” and in His “likeness.” Never had He made something that “good” before. Thus, man was something unique, unlike all of the other creatures God had made. Man had a special participation in, and resemblance of, God Himself. Man was special.

But how, exactly, was man special? How was he different from all of the other creatures? Sometimes the meaning of a particular Bible verse is pretty clear and obvious. Most of the time, however, the meaning and implications of a verse is not so clear and one must delve deeper into the surrounding verses and look for clues about its particular meaning. To truly understand what it meant for Adam and Eve to be made in the “image and likeness” of God, we need to look for other places in the Bible where this phrase is used.

We don’t have to look far: Genesis 5:1-3 states that just as God had created Adam and Eve in His “image and likeness,” so Adam had a son, Seth, “in his own likeness, after his own image” (Genesis 5:3). What does this mean? It means that just as God fathered Adam and Eve (in His “image and likeness”) so Adam fathered his son, Seth, in his “image and likeness.” When the Bible uses the phrase “image and likeness” to describe Adam and Eve’s creation it is not trying to describe how they looked, rather it is describing who they are: God’s divine son and daughter.

When the Bible describes the creation of man and woman it is not just describing how God created man biologically and physically, but it’s also describing how He created man theologically and spiritually. Thus, God isn’t just our “maker.” He didn’t just turn a pile of dirt into a body. Rather, He breathed divine Life into the dust of the earth and created a person. God didn’t just make a creature; He fathered a son. Adam was God’s son, and God was Adam’s Father. This is the key to understanding the tragedy of what happened in the Garden of Eden.

Quite often when we think about what Adam and Eve had in the Garden of Eden, we think in terms of the lush valleys, friendly animals, and innocent nudity. While these things are all true to one extent or another, Adam and Eve were given far more than they often get credit for. Adam and Eve were not just perfect specimens of physical health. They were God’s divine son and daughter. God did not just create Adam and Eve; He made them members of His divine family. Adam was a son of God (and likewise Eve was God’s daughter). Therefore, God did not just give Adam natural life. He also gave him participation in supernatural life. Adam was holy, and the holiness which Adam had was nothing less than his participation in God’s own holy nature and being. Adam was a “consecrated temple” of the Holy Spirit. Adam had the fullness of sanctifying grace – God’s own life and power – infused into his soul from the very beginning.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they were not just making an innocent “mistake:” they were committing cosmic treason, and their fall from grace was the ultimate tragedy. They gave up supernatural life with God Himself for their own limited, natural existence. They gave up the sanctifying grace that had been infused into their souls. While their souls had previously been full of God’s love and life, sin expelled God’s presence from within them. They were empty. God’s life was not within them any more.

The Church calls this the “original sin.”

Nimii, there are questions here too. Did God never anticipate that they would have sexual feelings ever? Or were those feelings genetically blocked by god? And did Lucifer give them a drug in that apple that 'unlocked' the lock put by God?

Self - belief is the most potent force.

Very Interesting topic Mandrake smile1.gif Can you please throw some light on the four Yugas + their realtionship to astronomy. It is said that one yuga is 430000 years old. Satyuga, then dwapara Yuga, Treta Yuga and then Kaliyuga. How many Satyugaas, Dwapara yugaas, Treta yuagaas and Kaliyugaas have we had so far?The human life span decreased with each Yuga. why?

What about the lost continent of Atlantis? People were highly advanced then, almost 11000 years ago.

Mandrake,

When I read you comments, I had to pinch myself because upto now I thought I was the only person with such thoughts and theories (and therefore a loony-tune). Thanks for taking me out of my misery.

There are too many logical gaps in the scientific explanation of the evolution of human beings, whether looked at historically, culturally or genetically. In genetics, it is conveniently "explained" as mutations. Very advanced civilizations disappear overnight and this is conveniently "explained" as the results of natural calamities. Balderdash!

Will keep checking in here (and contribute when useful).

Again, great stuff.

Mandrake..

jet age like you said would be long gone.. what do you think we may go to ? Like the retro fad returning.. mebbe horse riding will be back.. remember the resources are not unlimited.. petrol may vanish so also other fuels.. then what does man do... go back in times.. horse power to travel..

Kalki avtar yes, then that makes sense? what u say?

Adam and Eve were divine ppl.. coz their minds were pure when they were created.. Right?

When does one become a human.. when aspirations, other such worldy thoughts come in? right? that could be the forbidden fruit for the divine ppl. Mebbe it was His oops GOD's (now we cant really consider GOD as masculine wink2.gif) testing, experimenting stage.. the rest is history!

Supernatural powers! Phew that is one more topic one could discuss on and on...

Lata, Zippoo, Nimii, thanx for sharing interest bow.gif
I'll reply each point separately:

Lata you ask about the four yugas. In terms of time, they are:
Satya-yuga: 1,728,000 human years
Treta-yuga: 1,296,000 human years
Dwapara-yuga: 864,000 human years
Kali-yuga: 432,000 human years

There are characteristics attached to each yug, as in how people in each yug will be - morally, physically and spiritually.

But let me tell you about that small bit of personal research I carried out on this:

If you look at the figures from bottom to top, you'll quickly realise that the figures go in a perfect geometrical progression:
0+432000 = 432000
432000+432000 = 864000
864000+432000 = 1296000
1296000+432000 = 1728000

So if one thinks logically, it isn't that each yug has different number of years. Each yug has exactly the same number of years!

If you start counting from zero, the first yug lasted 4,32,000 yrs. So did each successive yug. But somewhere, the knowledge that came down to us got a twist, and we are told that each yug is longer/shorter than the previous by the same margin. But my educated guess is that each yug lasts 4,32,000 years.

Now the next question is: why this specific number?
A little knowledge of serious astronomy will reveal that the earth spins around it's own axis. This axis is not vertical, but tilted at an angle. In the distant past, the earth spun very fast, but over millenia it has kept slowing down.
Just as a top starts 'wobbling' when it loses it's speed of rotation, the earth has also slowed, and is 'wobbling'. The axis now is going in a circle (imagine the lowest point (contact point with the ground) of the top. The earth's axis is going around in a similar manner.
This is called 'precession'. It currently takes 25,800 years to complete one 'precession'. Due to this movement, today the north pole is pointing at the Pole Star. 7000 years ago, the Pole Star wasn't the current one, but the star 'Thuban' in the Draco constellation. 13000 years later, the pole will point to Vega in the Lyra constellation. Vega will be the Pole star then.

The reason I explained this is, the precession time today is 25,800 years. It must have been different before, it will be different later on, depending upon the speed of rotation. Logically, it will be longer when there is more rotational force (I refrain from using technical terms here), and shorter when the force decreases.
Accordingly, when the yuga calculations were done, my personal guess is that the precession time must have been 27000 years.

Why? Because simple maths will show that :
27000 x 16 = 432000
27000 x 32 = 864000
27000 x 48 = 1296000
27000 x 64 = 1728000

So the yuga changes after every 16 precession cycles!!! So logical! So obvious!

Also, please understand that all these years are counted from one single benchmark point!! (I don't know what that was)
Modern astronomy calculations tell us that the Kaliyug began on 20 February 3102 B.C.
So 3102 + x + 2005 = (5102 + x) years have passed since the beginning of Kaliyuga.
The x is to fill in for Christ's age. B.C. was Before Christ, A.D. is roughly after he died. It doesn't matter much.
Another 4,25,000 years must pass before Kaliyuga ends...

...or so it is said. thumbs-up.gif

Self - belief is the most potent force.

Zippoo-ji, this is in reference to your post. You will be surprised if you start talking aloud, that almost every alternate person is thinking of these issues. There are too many people interested in figuring out this mystery.

Personally speaking, almost every thinking person I have spoken to, has his own intelligent take on such issues. Far too many have expressed their belief that they have lived a life before this one.

The right brain connects to the intuitive, the spiritual, the un-explained. The left connects to reason, rationalization, deduction, justification. Since they are connected, all of us keep trying to make an overall sense out of everything, and though the 'heart/mind' tells us something strongly, the brain rejects it. For instance, if I say today, that all those who visit my blog repeatedly, have been connected in a past birth, the brain will simply throw the idea away, with an extra kick-or-two for added push!

But if we persist with the idea, we may slowly start quietly accepting that in this life, all the people we closely 'connect to' without any apparent reason, must have had some connection somewhere. If it is not in this life, then the obvious place is in a past life.

Haven't all of us, at different points in or lives, met quite a few people, who we got along with 'as if we had known them for years'???

And haven't we often joked with them that we must be connected in a past life?

Why did we say that? Why did we 'connect' with these specific people so well? To that woman-friend who feels closer than our wife? To that male friend who is 'closer than my own brother'? To that un-related elder 'who has done more for me than my own father'? To that totally unknown regular co-passenger who ' makes me feel as if I have known him from a different time/place'?

The brain rejects this outright. Because the brain belongs to this body. The body that was created on this earth, and will never leave this earth.

The soul recognizes fellow-souls, because there are no such 'bodily' limitations to the spirit.

Am I making sense Zippoo-ji?

As a parting line, can you explain why you and me, of all the members here, share such a fantastic rapport? We've never known ANYthing of each other, and yet there is (I feel) a special sense of camaraderie between the two of us.

Why?

Tell me what you think... blab.gif

Nimii, we will end up going back, but not going back as in reversing. We will return to the past via the future.

It is like that imaginary ultra-straight road that runs around the earth. You keep travelling only forward (because you cannot change that), to one day find that you have returned to the starting point.

As research grows, our understanding grows. We are just today beginning to realize after advanced research what our (specifically Indian) ancestors always knew all along. So are we going backwards? No, we are still going ahead, and meeting all those axioms that have come from our distant past.

Take aeroplanes. We didn't research the vedas. But the westerners built something from scratch, and we started seeing what our past has already recorded in even bigger detail.

Take space travel. OA (our ancestors) were past masters at that.

Take futuristic weapons. OA have endlessly described weaponry that is even today just a nascent beginning.

Charak described plastic surgery including all the instruments used (with sketches) thousands of years ago. We are still nowhere as good.

Hanuman could grow very large and very small. We still cannot think of that. But one day soon, we will find a theoretical way to that.

Cloning is still just about talked of (officially). Where did Parashuram get his army of look-alikes, be-alikes from?

We will only move ahead, because that's the only direction we can go in. But at every step, we will meet our past.

And as Zippoo asked of our evolution, did we evolve? The answer is a big emphatic NO!

The most misquoted man in history, Charles Darwin, wrote 'The Origin of the Species'. Did he say man descended (evolved) from the Apes?

NO!!!

Darwin never said that. Read the book. Darwin clearly says that man and ape descended from a common origin !!!
They are two tributaries of the same river. Origins same, properties similar, but end products, vastly different.

The apes were the building blocks of OA's experiments in creating man "after their own image" "in their own likeness"!!!
With the apes, they got the formula somewhat right. The formula was refined and re-refined to create man!

Else, in so many centuries, there would have been recorded instances of some apes turning into men!!

It would be apt to believe that the second-last step was apes who were very much like men in many respects, but their bodies were still of apes.

Does Sri Ram's Vaanar-sena ring a bell here?

Do Hanuman, Vali, Sugreev, Angad, and their ilk suddenly start filling in the 'missing link'??

These were not allowed to multiply any further, as by that time the 'man-design' had been perfected.
Hanuman may have been the proto-type. He was required over a very long term, so he was made a superior product and his immortality gene was left intact.

Does that explain why, of all the Vaanars, only Hanuman is Cheeranjeevi or immortal?

There is an oblique parallel in Mahabharat. Ashwatthaama, the son of Drona, was taught many arts and skills on the sly by Dronacharya, because Drona wanted his son to be the ultimate superior to all in every respect.

Perhaps he secretly desired to make Ashwatthaama the king of Hastinapur some day.
The Mahabharat clearly states in numerous places how Ashwatthaama was secretly trained in every aspect of warfare and politics - it only helped that he was also a very bright student.

It is my guess that Ashwatthaama was deliberately taught the secret of immortality. So that Drona could fulfil all his dreams through his son.

The story goes that Ashwatthaama was born with the Shyaamantak mani on his head, and was immortal.

But there weren't too many immortals then. So he should have got special treatment.

He didn't get that. Why? Because he wasn't born immortal. He was MADE immortal!!

There are legends that he still roams the forests of Karnataka with his never-healing wound...

One day in the future, all these secrets will be re-discovered, re-invented.

And that will be our journey to the past, via the future... bow.gif

Nostradamus was said to be well versed in astrology and astronomy. He used both to predict the future. How cud he have predicted as far a 500 years?

Is there something called psychic astronomy?

Nostradamus was the biggest hoax of all times.
I studied French all over again to get to the bottom of his 'predictions'.
Not worth anything.

He just wrote extremely generalized predictions which will fit into anything that's remotely similar.

Remember that Nostradamus was a non-entity till Goebbels decided to use his quartets to further the cause of German mis-propaganda.

The few times he uses names, they are way off the mark - and one has to use substitutions to ASSUME that he might have meant something else.

The few times he uses dates, they just don't tally AT ALL.

He had predicted a war (which we all fondly called the third world war and attribute it to his 'vision') in July 1999.

Did you even smell gunpowder???
