It was the riposte day for the Indian team as well as Virendar Sehwag. The match between India and Bermuda witnessed another record runs in the world cup history. The 413 runs scored by India in the 12th ODI in the ICC World Cup 2007 is the highest score achieved by a team in the world cup. The winning of Indian team by 257 runs set another record, the highest margin win by a team.

Virendar Sehwag was declared the Player of the Match. Sehwag had started with a depressing tone, slashing and missing the off stump, but he recovered after some time, started hitting the ball over the offside, though with a little immaturity. Soon he picked up momentum giving straight deliveries down the pitch. Wonderful performance! He scored his half-century in just 10 overs. The total shot up to 114 runs of only 87 balls, including seventeen 4’s and three 6’s.

Indian Cricket Dada, Sourav Ganguly, once again proved that he is the Man of Consistency. He added a decent 89 with six 4’s and two 6’s. The team had expected a great knock from MS Dhoni when he entered after Sehwag got out in the 30 th over. However, he contributed less than everybody’s expectation and was caught superbly by aggressive Tucker. It was a wonderful and at the same time a very difficult task achieved by the bowler Borden.

Still the show went on. Adding more and more to the world cup of records came the powerful Yuvraj Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar. It seemed as if the team regained their maximum spirit after their pitiful defeat to Bangladesh. Yuvraj contributed 83 runs off 46 balls, while Sachin and Dravid remained not out scoring 57 and 7 respectively. The Indian Captain was found extremely determined when he hit the last ball delivering a wonderful 6.

Jones got the credit for sending the opener Uthappa in the 2nd over. He also got the credit of catching two important wickets, those of Yuvraj and Sehwag, from the balls of Leverock and Hurdle respectively. It was Borden who got the wickets of Ganguli and Dhoni.

The Bermudans showed their ingenuous enthusiasm though they were given an unachievable target. The openers, Pitcher and Outerbridge, started batting in a relaxed mood. The first two wickets went cheaply, both taken by Zaheer Khan; Pitcher gave up scoring nil, while Outerbridge managed 9 runs from 16 balls. Borden entered next, started batting with his inherent smile. However, he was declared lbw at the 14 th over.

The hope for the Bermudans was DL Hemp, who had performed reasonably well in the team’s first match against Sri Lanka, and he did very well this time. The high-spirited Bermudan managed to stay till the end of the match, contributing a wonderful 76, including nine 4’s and one 6, inspite of the hostile conditions of the field. Wicket keeper DA Minors joined Hemp, and served a reasonable contribution, 21 runs, towards the team’s total of 156 runs.

Indian bowlers had a feast of Bermudan wickets. Veteran bowlers Agarkar and Kumble managed three wickets each while M Patel and Tendulkar managed one each. Khan had claimed the two initial wickets of Bermudans.

India now need to beat Sri Lanka in their next match to virtually seal the place for next round of Super 8s.
